Sometime around midnight, on July 18, 1969 Kennedy drove his Oldsmobile 88 off of a small bridge on Chappaquiddick island, into eight feet of chilly water. The vehicle landed upside-down. While Kennedy managed to free himself from the wreck and swim to safety, his passenger, 28-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne was left in the car to drown.
  • Obese Americans now outweigh the merely overweight

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The number of obese American adults outweighs the number of those who are merely overweight, according to the latest statistics from the federal government. Numbers posted by the National Center for Health Statistics show that more than 34 percent of Americans are obese, compared to 32.7 percent who are overweight. It said just under 6 percent are "extremely" obese. "More than one-third of adults, or over 72 million people, were obese in 2005-2006, the NCHS said in its report. The numbers are based on a survey of 4,356 adults over the age of 20 who take part...

This simply can’t be real. Not because it’s so shameless and absurd, but because its shamelessness and absurdity encapsulate too perfectly the way this travesty of a bill has been sold. If you were writing the broadest possible satire of the “Grand Bargain” that you could think of, how else could it end except with Teddy croaking out a few bars in his new mother tongue in a sort of apocalyptic pander? Until someone gives me proof, I’m assuming it’s bogus. It’s just too bad to be true.

Something's bustin' out all over for George W. Bush, and it ain't June. The president is excused if he's beginning to think he's Rodney Dangerfield. Except in Albania, he just don't get no respect. The collapse of immigration "reform" legislation in the Senate, which Harry Reid, the leader of the Democratic majority, calls "the Bush immigration bill," is a bitter disappointment for the president. But it says a lot as well about the collapse of the Kennedy clout. Nobody worked harder to impose this monstrosity than the senator from Massachusetts, one of the masters of manipulating the Senate

When the immigration reform bill stalled in the Senate yesterday, President Bush may have been the most disappointed, having lost a chance at adding a signature domestic achievement to his legacy. Whether there will be a chance to salvage the effort is unclear — and so is the impact of all this on the presidential race. John McCain couldn't have been happy seeing the bill he co-sponsored hung up, maybe never to be resurrected. Throughout debates and testy campaign exchanges with his GOP rivals, McCain never wavered in his support for this particular reform. When party activists cried "amnesty," McCain...

In the Summer of 1989 Kennedy and fellow Senator Chris Dodd were having lunch at famous Washington D.C. restaurant La Brasserie. Kennedy requested the attendance of waitress Carla Gaviglio. According to the Washington Times "When she put in an appearance in their private retreat - 'The Teddy Kennedy Fun Room' - the Massachusetts senator picked her up and heaved her onto a table. The crystal candlesticks and champagne glasses shattered as he grabbed her again and flung her on top of Dodd. "Then Kennedy threw himself on top of the woman. The waitress implored Mr. Kennedy to 'Get off me!'...

Dear RNC In the spirit of cost savings and spending reductions, cornerstones of the Republican Party platform, I offer this heartfelt suggestion the the RNC brass: You can save money by removing me from your mailing list. Your correspondence, for several years now, has hit my trash can unopened. Removing me from your mailing list [name and address below] will easily and painlessly save the RNC hard-donated money that you can put to better use continuing the party's on-going initiatives in big spending, open borders, the McVain presidential candidacy and Teddy Kennedy hugging. Congress should coalesce behind sweeping new compromise immigration legislation despite steep political obstacles because opportunities to confront the problem head-on are rare, Sen. Edward Kennedy said Friday. Kennedy, the lead Democratic negotiator with Republicans and the White House, acknowledged widespread criticism but called it "our last-gasp stand." The bill, which conservatives immediately attacked as an "amnesty" program, would provide a pathway to citizenship for some 12 million immigrants now in the United States illegally. It also would mandate tougher border security and workplace enforcement and provide for a guest worker program. Critics complained that it would reward the nation's estimated...

Senators and the White House clinched a deal Thursday on bringing 12 million illegal immigrants out of the shadows and securing US borders, which could enhance President George W. Bush's legacy. The pact would provide a path to permanent residency and citizenship for illegal workers, establish a merit-based points system for future immigrants and also establish a temporary worker program. The bill, which emerged from exhaustive round-the-clock talks, and will be debated in the Senate next week, will provide 18,000 more border patrol agents, and scores of radar and camera towers on the US border with Mexico. It is aimed...

What those Media Matters idiots didn't realize is that Rush was SPOOFING Ted Kennedy who said the same thing as you can see and hear in this VIDEO. And now the DUmmies are up in arms because CNN made a similar mistake as you can see in the caption above where Osama is referred to as Obama. You can see the DUmmie outrage in this THREAD titled, "CNN Identifies Osama bin Laden as 'Obama...'" So let us now watch the...

In preparation for our recent trip to Washington, Little Marathon Pundit rode her bike to the local public library, checking out several books about our nation's capital. One of those books was the recently published My Senator and Me, A Dog's Eye View of Washington, written by Senator Edward M. Kennedy. It's a children's book written from the perspective of Kennedy's Portuguese Water Dog, Splash. Yes, the dog's name really is Splash, and pundits have made wisecracks about the name in reference to that 1969 driving incident, but in fairness to Splash, the wet-nosed one was named that before Kennedy...

Nevada Sen. John Ensign says Democratic leaders who criticize the Iraq war are aiding the terrorists and hampering the war effort. "Democratic leaders like Nancy Pelosi and Ted Kennedy - let me tell you, I say this without reservation - they have hurt our military, they have emboldened the enemy," Ensign told Republicans gathered for the state party convention on Saturday. "They're fighting for the freedom of speech, they're fighting for the right to protest, they're fighting for all those things. But when we are at war, especially the leaders in this country need to be very, very careful of...

The other night Jimmy Carter popped up on the Larry King show, live via satellite, standing in a ski lodge and wearing a fur-lined outdoorsman jacket as though he'd just come in from felling a spruce. He was publicizing an upcoming auction in which he would sell the furniture he'd been making. Also his wine. This may have come to many viewers as a surprise: There is Jimmy Carter Wine. The former president didn't say how he made it, but you know what it's probably called: peanut noir. Also he plans to sell his paintings. "My paintings," he told King,...

A community college student in Massachusetts faces possible disciplinary action for shouting "Remember Chappaquiddick!" during an on-campus speech by Democrat Sen. Edward Kennedy. Paul Trost, 20, a student at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Mass., says he was upset by an introduction of Kennedy given by Rep. Stephen Lynch, D-Mass., in which the congressman noted how the long-time senator overcame hardship in life on his way to success. "Lynch said Kennedy had overcome such adversity to get to the place he was, and that's a bunch of bull," Trost said of the introduction, which occurred in the school's student center...

For more than a week now, the press has been beating up on Vice President Dick Cheney for his handling – or, rather, for his mis-handling – of how the accidental shooting of his friend while on a hunting trip in Texas was disclosed. The theme that runs through all this criticism is that the Vice President made a terrible mistake in not arranging for news of the shooting to be disclosed immediately, rather than waiting 14 hours to put out the word. But what if Dick Cheney hadn’t stiffed the press? Let’s conduct what scientists call a “thought experiment.”...
