My grandfather, who was a UW-Madison biochemistry professor, taught me about the importance of science and the integrity of the scientific process. I learned at an early age that pure science should always be just that pure, untainted and uninfluenced by political agendas. In my grandfather's lab, scientists did independent research, and peers reviewed and commented on its merits. Politics, he taught me, had no place in the scientific process. Consequently, I find it greatly disturbing that the Bush administration has used political and religious ideologies to influence national policy on science and medicine. In Congress, I have taken on...

Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D, WI) seized on the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Social Security Act to urge Congress not to cut benefits. President Bush has suggested allowing workers under age 55 to use a portion of their Social Security taxes for private investments. Democrats are concerned that the changes would also include changing the way benefits are computed. She pointed to a new study that was authored by the House of Representatives' Committee on Government Reform minority staff. The report argues that Bush's plan would cut benefits to more than 240,000 workers, or 70 percent of wage...

Financial aid loss under review WASHINGTON - When 20-year-old Nathan Bush was pulled over in Kenosha last October with drug paraphernalia plainly visible in his car, he lost his driver's license - and tens of thousands of dollars in financial aid. Bush, an incoming junior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, said he could have been slapped with the far more serious charge of possession of marijuana, but instead had all of his federal dollars taken away in courtroom negotiations. "Of course, I can't pick up that kind of slack," Bush said, adding that state aid covers only about half of...

A group of 11 representatives in the House want Congress to add "sexual orientation" to the list of protected characteristics used in regulating workplace discrimination in federal employment. Government employment discrimination and whistleblower-protection issues are handed by the Office of Special Counsel, which is empowered to prosecute managers believed to have violated the law. During the Clinton administration, Special Counsel Elaine Kaplan – an avowed lesbian, according to Concerned Women for America – incorporated "sexual orientation" under the "conduct unrelated to the job" portion of the regulation, thus elevating homosexuality to a protected status. Last year, Scott Bloch, who now...

July 27, 2004 -- BOSTON — Speakers at the podium of the Democratic National Convention are being gagged when it comes to gay marriage. Top party officials and campaign aides said yesterday that not only has gay marriage been yanked from the party's official platform, but speakers will be vetted to make sure they steer clear of pro-gay-marriage rhetoric. "You don't have to have a platform that itemizes issue after issue like a New York telephone book," explained national party secretary Alice Germond. The more than 200 homosexuals taking part in the gay, lesbian and transgender caucus here prior to...

By Anita Weier November 6, 2002 A joyous crowd of about 350 people welcomed U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin to a victory party at Fyfe's Corner Bistro on Tuesday night. Shouts of "Tammy! Baldwin, a Madison Democrat, had soundly defeated Republican Ron Greer of Fitchburg, a pastor and former firefighter. With 99.7 percent of precincts reporting, the vote was: BALDWIN...163,290 Greer...85,523 "I feel proud and gratified by the sizable margin of victory,"...

Ron Greer for Congress Ron Greer is not your typical candidate for Congress and neither is his opponent. Nowhere in the nation is there a race where the choice is so clear cut between conservatism and radical liberalism. Ron Greer, a proud African-American is also a proud solid social and fiscal conservative with charisma. His opponent, Tammy Baldwin, is from the most extreme left wing of the Democratic party. She proclaims as one of her greatest accomplishments being "the first out lesbian ever elected to the United States Congress." Ron Greer knows no fear when it comes to challenging the political...

Hi everyone. I'm looking for help defeating Tammy Baldwin this fall in the 2nd District Congressional race. While I am supporting Ron Greer, this project is not endorsed or supported by him. I have registered the domain TammyBaldwin.US and am building a web site to provide a counter-point to her campaign. If you know of anything about this socialist-Democrat that should be posted, please let me know. Cheers! Norris
