July 27, 2004 -- BOSTON Speakers at the podium of the Democratic National Convention are being gagged when it comes to gay marriage. Top party officials and campaign aides said yesterday that not only has gay marriage been yanked from the party's official platform, but speakers will be vetted to make sure they steer clear of pro-gay-marriage rhetoric."You don't have to have a platform that itemizes issue after issue like a New York telephone book," explained national party secretary Alice Germond.
The more than 200 homosexuals taking part in the gay, lesbian and transgender caucus here prior to the convention kickoff took the news in stride acknowledging the risk fiery rhetoric on the topic could have in sending social moderates scurrying to President Bush's camp.
"We're not going to ask John Kerry to lead with his chin," said Josh Friedes, the advocacy director for the Freedom to Marry Coalition of Massachusetts.
The Democrats' tip-toeing around the delicate subject was evident in the speech delivered by Tammy Baldwin, the openly gay congresswoman from Wisconsin who avoided the word marriage in her call for equal treatment.

Gay Marriage? They won't even mention Michael Dukakis.
The big lie that came from the mouth of The Bent One said that the Democrats will focus on faith and strength in families. He buried that in his speech, but I sat up and took notice.
I was laughing at Susan Estrich last night. When she talked about Hillary's speech, she said she was "surprised" that Hillary said nothing about women's rights.
Susan's too smart to act that dumb. ANYTHING smacking of non traditional values or liberalism will get buried at this convention. Kerry is determined to bury the "L" word, at least until after the election.
As Rush says, they can't win by what they are, so they have to hide it.
...to contact your list, that is.
- Homosexual Agenda PING List -
Don't be alarmed, this is my first ping list. Please be gentle. :-)
So, judging by this article, not even the Dems want to make state-sanctioned-humpty-hump a campaign issue? Hopefully, this will stick in the craw of the Homosexual Jihadists (thanks lj for the term), and they'll remember how they were snubbed come election day.
Such is the way Dems deal with all minorities. "We don't care a whit about you...we just want your vote!"
Too funny.
Apparently their focus groups have shown that if they push the gay marriage agenda at the convention along with bashing GW, they will lose bigtime in November.
Even in Kalifornicator away from Gay Frisco, they are pushing the Gay Marriage agenda back into their closet.
You done good!!
