Medication for high blood pressure could improve Covid-19 survival rates and reduce the severity of infection - according to new research from the University of East Anglia. Researchers studied 28,000 patients taking antihypertensives - a class of drugs that are used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). They found that the risk of severe Covid-19 illness and death was reduced for patients with high blood pressure who were taking Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme inhibitors (ACEi) or Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (ARB). Lead researcher Dr Vassilios Vassiliou, from UEA's Norwich Medical School, said: "We know that patients with cardiovascular diseases are at particular risk...
  • How To Get Emergency Drinking Water From Fire Hydrants

In certain situations you may be able to obtain emergency drinking water from fire hydrants. Should you do so, and is this even legal you may ask? For the most part, opening a fire hydrant on a municipal water line is against the law and should never be attempted. Secondly, if the hydrant is still pressurized, the force of the unregulated water could cause injury or even death. Also, if citizens begin randomly opening fire hydrants, this may result in a loss of pressure when it is needed for actual firefighting.

I had the opportunity to interview author J.P. Redding (a pseudonym) shortly after his first book “Off Grid” came out. Initially, I thought it was a survivalist book. The subtitle “Is there anywhere to hide from the surveillance state?” suggested that. It turns out that it is a science fiction book, as well.
  • Why so many Americans are buying up personal bunkers

Tom Soulsby, 69, and his wife, Mary, were one of the first to buy a bunker at Vivos xPoint — the self-proclaimed “largest survival community on Earth” — near the South Dakota town of Edgemont. In 2017, he made a $25,000 down payment and signed a 99-year land lease (with fees of $1,000 per year) to occupy an elliptical-shaped, 2,200 square-foot underground concrete bunker once used as a military fortress during World War II to store weapons and ammunition. What he got for his money is security — and not much else. Sealed by a concrete and steel blast door...

I have been working on a knowledge base of topics related to prepping and SHTF situations. It is geared towards making people more self sufficient with topics ranging from unarmed self defense to small space gardening to how to sew your own clothes. I'm one of those types of people who believe that we are going to go out with a whimper, not a bang, so there is a lot of content on how to do your own repairs, build your own stuff and live a more frugal lifestyle. In order to get access you need to send me a...
  • This Shrub Is Quickly Becoming the Favorite Superfood of Doomsday Preppers

Doomsday survivalists have over the years have earned a reputation for stockpiling medical supplies, guns and ammo—essentially gathering whatever resources and expertise necessary for self-sufficiency in the event of the apocalypse. That ethos has now drawn a group of survivalists that call themselves preppers to an unlikely superfood that's just beginning to take hold in North America: moringa. Moringa Oleifera is an unassuming shrub that grows in hot, dry tropical climates around the globe, and is prized for its high level of nutrients—especially protein. "The biggest reason is because it is a great food source," David Wentworth, who publishes expertprepper.com,...

On a recent Thursday, a group of farmers from Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska hosted a remote agriculture happy hour. There were a few dozen attendees, and nearly everyone was wearing a cowboy hat. In total, they farm more than 30,000 acres of cropland, most of it planted in soy, corn, or cotton destined for the global commodity market. The happy hour started with presentations about integrating livestock into cropping systems, but then things took a surprising turn: farmers began to discuss how they are feeding their families and communities. “Normally, between me and the consumer there is a gigantic divide...

When I was a young teen, I read a sobering statement – that most Americans would starve to death standing next to a cow in a field of ripe wheat. In other words, most people don't have the faintest idea how to obtain food from elemental sources. In the age of coronavirus, this statement is coming back to haunt me. The pandemic has caused an interruption in supply lines, and for the first time in decades, Americans may face shortages. We're not used to seeing empty shelves at the supermarket. How secure is our food supply? For 5,000-plus years of...

Today is the day when those who care about the Christian traditions of the West remember the astonishing biblical account of the Resurrection of Jesus. Is Donald Trump succeeding against enormous odds in resurrecting America? In making America great again? Can his unique style of direct social media communication with the American people find the strength in them to stare down a high death rate from the Coronavirus and achieve herd immunity before any other nation? Is it madness to suggest such a thing or is it a legitimate way to seek strength? Is there anything in this crisis which...

RINGTOWN, Pa. - When Dan Wowak went to live alone in the wilds of Patagonia in 2016 for a chance to win a half-million dollars on reality television, he was allowed to bring 10 items. Toilet paper wasn't one of them. Wowak, a Mahanoy City native, did bring an ax and saw, a sleeping bag and a ferro rod, which you can strike to make sparks in just about any condition. He also chose fishing line and hooks, which proved invaluable. Over 51 days, he ate nothing but fish he caught in a lake: nine of them. "I lost 54...
  • Testing the Efficacy of Homemade Masks: Would They Protect in an Influenza Pandemic?

This study examined homemade masks as an alternative to commercial face masks. Several household materials were evaluated for the capacity to block bacterial and viral aerosols. Twenty-one healthy volunteers made their own face masks from cotton t-shirts; the masks were then tested for fit. The number of microorganisms isolated from coughs of healthy volunteers wearing their homemade mask, a surgical mask, or no mask was compared using several air-sampling techniques. The median-fit factor of the homemade masks was one-half that of the surgical masks. Both masks significantly reduced the number of microorganisms expelled by volunteers, although the surgical mask was...

Your own best judgment determines what you do, if anything, to prepare for an epidemic of the Wuhan coronavirus. For myself, each round of information, as unreliable as it may be in its specifics, suggests an notable epidemic is more likely than not. There are a few things known with certainty. Pneumonia is, as with all flu, the common mode of fatality. 61.5% of patients requiring hospitalization and intense monitoring ended up becoming "non-survivors". Wuhan coronavirus has an incubation period of three to twenty-seven days, i.e., infected but without symptoms. Fourteen days is typical. Fever and cough are common, diarrhea...

If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, one of the first questions that comes to mind may be, "What is stage 4 lung cancer life expectancy?" While cancers that are stage 4 have the reputation of being "bad," you may wonder what this really means. Those who suddenly learn they have stage 4 lung cancer are not alone. Roughly 40 percent of people with lung cancer are diagnosed when their cancer is already stage 4, which means that the cancer has metastasized (spread) throughout the body.1 For example, tumors may be present in...

The SHTF gun means many things to many people. Having actually taken incoming fire and proven I cannot stop a bullet, I have a different idea than the casually interested. Planning for an apocalyptic nightmare seems a popular pastime—especially for cinematic writers. Just the same there are times when the need may be real.Perhaps the Remington 870DM should be at the top of the list in SHTF shotguns. Man’s propensity for savagery, slavery, and mayhem has little diminished since Neolithic times. Geopolitical woes, revolution, disease, and natural disaster are real concerns. I am not one looking forward to such a...

His Ford was severely smashed by a huge dump truck. The man thought the driver of the truck noticed him and it was too late when he realized he was wrong. When the truck smashed the car, the man had his legs cramped, and he was really happy when he felt he still could move them. Finally X-Ray showed not a sinle bone was broken!
