One of the new Palestinian saints, Sister Mariam Baouardy (1846-1878), was a mystic and stigmatic also known as “Mary Jesus Crucified.” She was a Palestinian and foundress of the Discalced Carmelites of Bethlehem in the late 1800’s. The other new Palestinian saint, Sister Marie Alphonsine Danil Ghattas (1843-1927), was a co-founder of the Congregation of the Rosary Sisters, who spent much of her life in Bethlehem founding schools and orphanages.Despite the interesting politics of the situation, we...

Specific proposals to end the appalling violence in Syria, Yemen, and territories controlled by the Islamic State group are scarce in the nascent presidential campaign. That is about to change. Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina -- who tells Yahoo Finance he’s “92-and-a-half percent sure” he’s running for president -- wants to send U.S. troops back to the world’s most volatile region to stamp out vicious terrorism and remove Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. “Assad has to go,” he says in the video above. “We’re going to have to send some of our soldiers back into the Middle East.”

He has never won re-election with less than 64 percent of the vote. His approval rating is 67 percent. This is not some senator from a deep red or deep blue state. He is, in fact, a Republican representing a swing state in a presidential year, and Democrats would quite like to unseat him. So why does Sen. Charles E. Grassley seem almost politically invincible? (SNIP) Democrats looking to topple him will not have an easy path. His lowest re-election margin of victory was 64 percent in 2010. (He won 66 percent of the vote in 1986, 70 percent in...

video Keith Olbermann returned to ESPN tonight after a short suspension for a tweet last week that looked like he was being insensitive to Penn State students who raised millions to fight pediatric cancer.Olbermann likened Twitter to batting practice, where people are so eager to be “one of those screaming baseballs” flinging themselves at something outrageous without looking at the context. But he didn’t excuse himself in all this, saying, “I was not a victim here. I brought this on myself. This is my fault.”Olbermann saw a tweet from a Penn State fan, and didn’t know there was a link...

Rivlin is in New York to address the official Holocaust commemorations of the United Nations. His schedule includes meetings with African-American leaders and others. Netanyahu was invited to...

My dearest wish is to one day have the pleasure of living in a small cabin in the frigid wilderness. There I will spend my nights covered in heavy wool blankets, eating smoked fish and dried fruit. Over time, my beard will grow to the point where I’ll be indistinguishable from a medium-sized woodland creature. The villagers I’ll come to know during my rare visits to town will call me “the wolfman,” not least because I will communicate solely by howling and scratching out messages with my clawlike fingernails. For now, I live in a big city, where such unconventional...

Hoffer said Friday Gruber provided insufficient documentation to support his invoices to the state. Hoffer said officials in Gov. Peter Shumlin's administration had been in close touch with Gruber throughout his work, but that...

Fresh pro-abortion talking points for a new year! Who said feminism was out of ideas? This time around, feminist writer and moral pygmy Amanda Marcotte is asserting that pregnancy is a disease, with abortion as the cure. In a recent piece for RH Reality Check entitled, “Nicki Minaj and the Inevitable Politicization of Celebrity Abortions,” Marcotte argued that women regret pregnancy – not abortion. Referencing singer Nicki Minaj, she urged that pregnancy is like “when you break your leg” and abortion is the “cast.” When the media reported on Minaj’s abortion as a teenager, they “perpetuate[d] abortion stigma,” Marcotte wrote....
