  • Bull Kills Basque Bullfighter in French City of Aire Sur L’Adour

    06/18/2017 2:13:33 PM PDT · by nickcarraway · 57 replies
Bullfighter Ivan Fandiño was gored to death Saturday afternoon by a bull of the stockbreeding ranch of Baltasar Iban in the French city of Aire Sur L’Adour, the communications department of the Basque matador told EFE. Fandiño, 36, was feinting the bull with his cape when he tripped, and as he fell defenseless to the ground, the animal gored him in the side. He was taken immediately to the infirmary, and from there to a hospital in Mont de Marsa, where nothing could be done to save his life. Spain’s king and queen expressed their sorrow for the death of...

The list of protected and unprotected players of each NHL team is out. See link. The new Vegas team, the Golden Knights, can pick one player or goalie from each of the 30 existing teams according to some rules. And there will be trading in the draft on Weds as well. Interrresting. Airborne, I am going to use the hockey ping list but if that is a faux pas, please let me know. I apologize in advance.
  • Colin Kaepernick Compares Modern Day Police To Slave Catchers

I’m no expert on political stances that unemployed NFL quarterbacks should embrace on Twitter to ensure that they have a chance to play in the league again, but comparing modern day police officers to slave catchers probably isn’t helpful. Yet that’s exactly what Colin Kaepernick did yesterday in the wake of a jury verdict he disagreed with. Yesterday an Hispanic police officer who shot Philandro Castile in Minnesota last summer was found not guilty of all charges by a jury. Then Kaepernick Tweeted this:

Christian soccer player Jaelene Hinkle has withdrawn herself from the U.S. soccer team after it was announced that the squad would be wearing rainbow colored 'gay pride' jerseys in their upcoming game. She cited "personal reasons" for her refusal to play, according to The Christian Post. The star proudly declares Colossians 3:23 on her Twitter which says: "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men." "If you live for people's acceptance, you'll die from their rejection," the tagline also notes on her profile.

The NCAA suspended University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino for the first five Atlantic Coast Conference games next season following an investigation into the program's basketball escorts case. Pitino's suspension is just one penalty levied against the program, which was put on probation. Former staffer Andre McGee was hit with a 10-year show cause penalty after the NCAA said Pitino failed to monitor McGee, a former director of basketball operations at Louisville.
  • Why Michael Jordan's '90s Bulls Would Beat the 2017 Golden State Warriors

Thankfully, with his loss in the 2017 NBA Finals, I should never have to hear anyone attempt to elevate LeBron James above Michael Jordan in the GOAT discussion. Unfortunately, I now have to listen to people claiming that the 2017 Golden State Warriors would beat the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls of the 1990s. That claim is more ludicrous than claiming that LeBron is better than Jordan. Below, I've listed three reasons why Michael Jordan's Bulls would beat the 2017 Golden State Warriors. 1. Defensive Matchups The 2017 Warriors are an offensive juggernaut, no doubt. However, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and...

Imagine this: Your daughter has been training and running track for four years. She's a senior and she's made it to the state finals. College recruiters are in the stands and this is her day to shine (and possibly get a scholarship so you don't have to go bankrupt trying to fund her education). Except that doesn't happen for her because a boy, claiming to be a girl, handily steals the title from her.

State health officials are investigating a puzzling outbreak of mumps in Latino communities in Boston, Chelsea, and Revere, and have advised health care providers to be alert for additional cases. The state Department of Public Health has recorded 12 mumps cases since the end of March. Previously in Massachusetts, mumps has been found chiefly among vaccinated college students and others connected to colleges and universities. But the dozen new cases involve people aged 20 to 41 with no known links to higher education.

Being on the sideline of an NFL practice carries certain risks. Keep your head on a swivel. However, you don’t expect to get pelted with errant passes from professional quarterbacks. That danger seems to be exclusive to New York Jets camp when Christian Hackenberg is taking reps.

They cruise down the dusty, open road, the teacher and the pupil, the making of history only months away. What a pair they are as they roll through the 115-degree heat outside Phoenix on Highway 202, the intense desert sunlight bouncing off the black Mercedes sedan. Together they gaze into the barren landscape dotted with saguaro cacti and mesquite trees, and both see the same vision: a future in which a woman playing Division II football on scholarship is no longer a mirage. Franco, 25, sustained a head injury in a featherweight fight in Iowa Saturday. The fight was stopped in the 8th of 10 rounds. He took a blow to the head from Utah’s Jose Haro. Franco was heavily favored in the televised bout but after that punch in the 8th round, officials saw Franco clearly wobbling and stopped the fight. He was taken to the hospital where doctors discovered several brain bleeds. Before the devastating blow, Franco got knocked down in the ring and that can have an affect on a fighter a fellow boxer says. “That weakens you as a...

As a former lawyer, Garth Lagerwey knows about the value of evidence-based reasoning. Now he's trying to apply that same line of thinking to the professional soccer club he helps manage. Lagerwey spoke about this philosophy at the Sounders Sports Science Weekend in Seattle, an event that focuses on the latest innovations in sports science and analytics. The Sounders have long been pioneers, at least among Major League Soccer teams, in using sports science to help make on-field improvements. The club, which won its first MLS Cup last year, utilizes a variety of gadgets like GPS trackers and heart rate...

If you believe the media, the National Football League has a duty — an obligation, really — to provide employment for (former) quarterback Colin Kaepernick. It’s been three months since he opted out of his contract (49ers’ version: they were going to cut him anyway). Then he sat down — or took a knee, whatever — and waited for the phone to ring. And waited. And waited. And waited. He’s still waiting. The Seattle Seahawks gave him a sniff recently, but decided to pass. Coach Pete Carroll says it’s because Kaepernick is a starter and the Seahawks already have a...
