"I can't put it into words right now. Just trying to soak it all in right now and hope that I get another opportunity," he said. "A lot of people don't even get this opportunity, so I'm very grateful." Wednesday, Morgan was pulled after two innings in his 13th start of the season for triple-A Lehigh Valley. He wasn't told he was being called up and texted his father, Wiley, saying his shoulder felt fine. That night, Wiley saw four cardinals on the back porch of the Morgans' home in Marietta, Ga. Two days later Morgan called Wiley with long-awaited...

Happy Father's Day to Caitlyn Jenner. On the first Father's Day since the 65-year-old Olympian, formerly known as Bruce, first introduced Caitlyn to the world, daughter's Kylie, Kendall, and Khloe shared heartfelt messages on social media. "Happy Father's Day my little light of sunshine," Kylie, 17, captioned a throwback photo of her as a little girl along with Kendall, Bruce and mom Kris. She then seemed to quote her father's comforting words as he began making his transition to life as a woman. "You can still call me dad, Kylie. No matter what I'm always going to be your father....

After Phillies starting pitcher Phillippe Aumont gave up four earned runs in the second inning of Friday night's game against the Cardinals, a nearby squirrel decided enough was enough. Climbing up the protective netting behind home plate, the squirrel gave Phillies faithful some much-needed entertainment while watching their 23-45 ballclub on its way to another dreadful loss. The critter showed off some impressive balance as he circus-walked across the wire holding up the net. With the crowd's attention, the squirrel then nosedived almost 30 feet onto the top of the Phillies' dugout and hopped in to join the team. Actually,...

Long-time Huntington Beach surfer Gary Sahagen had a prediction about how the world record attempt to get the most people riding one wave would go down. "It's either going to be spectacular, or a spectacle," Sahagen said, before joining 66 other surfers crammed onto a 42-foot board on the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier. Turns out, it was a lot of both.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Danny Villanueva, who was one of the NFL's first Latino kickers and a pioneer of Spanish-language television, has died. He was 77. Family members and officials at New Mexico State University, where Villanueva was a member of the athletic hall of fame, confirmed that he died Thursday after suffering a stroke earlier this week. Born to migrant missionary workers in eastern New Mexico, Villanueva went on to attend New Mexico State on a football scholarship. After graduating in 1961, he played for the Los Angeles Rams, where he was nicknamed "El Kickador." Bullfighting music was played...

Last week, I had the privilege of spending a fair amount of time in our friendly neighbor to the north, getting the full Canadian experience. Well, actually not; it was summer and beautiful. I did get to eat some poutine, however, so I guess that’s a stamp on the ol’ food passport. I also got to learn all about the CFL! Anyway, I met a lot of wonderful people. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful, and I came away with a very positive view of the place. Now that I’m back in the States, however, my patriotism and desire to...

Kalley Johnson was hunting with her father by age 4. She had a bow and arrow in hand two years later. She once shot a zebra on a productive big-game trip to Namibia. Who knew those skills would earn her varsity letters? “Sometimes if I tell a random person I’m on the trapshooting team, they kind of look at me funny like, ‘You’re a girl. You can do that?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, we do it all the time,'” said Johnson, a just-graduated senior at Delano High School. “But it’s definitely getting better. The first year it started, there were only...

I have a question for LeBron James that I really hope he'll field someday. A question that can be asked a variety of ways: What kind of coach do you want? Who out there is a coach for whom you'd actually like to play? Who could ‎the Cleveland Cavaliers hire that would earn your backing? I don't have the answers to any of those queries. I know this much, though: James is too brilliant as a basketball player, too truly great, to behave the way he did toward David Blatt during the NBA Finals. We literally saw "Peak LeBron" and...

Maybe there was a time you figured the artist formerly known as Tiger Woods had earned his own demise, that he had this coming to him all along. Maybe you thought he deserved to suffer on the golf course after the scandal, and after he spent his dynastic years wearing that invisible Do Not Disturb sign while keeping you, the sports fan, as far away as possible on the less fortunate side of the ropes. Maybe you were a blind believer in karma, entrenched enough in the what-goes-around, comes-around crowd to enjoy watching Woods devolve into the worst kind of...

Times have been tough for Woods. He was the top golfer during his marriage to Nordegren. He hasn't won a Major since 2008.

San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan says he lost about $25 million in investments to a dishonest adviser, but is not a factor in deciding if he will return for a 19th NBA season. Earlier this year, Duncan sued Charles Banks, his former financial adviser, seeking more than $1 million in damages after Duncan says that Banks took Duncan's $7.5 million investment in his company, Gameday Entertainment LLC, and used it for his personal benefit.

Soccer star Brandi Chastain is asking all players to reverse their jerseys to show support for a rule change: no headers for players under 14. With the soccer world focused on the Women’s World Cup, Chastain is promoting the Safer Soccer Campaign. She says heading the ball can lead to concussions. Chastain was one of the first to jump on the effort — a former star who scored the winning penalty kick to give the United States the title over China in the 1999 World Cup, and memorably ripped off her shirt in exultation. Now she is a youth coach...
