The chairwoman of the Nebraska Democratic Party's Black Caucus is resisting pressure to resign after she called Republicans' reactions to the shooting of House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R., La.) "so funny." Chelsey Gentry-Tipton of Omaha, Neb. also wrote on Facebook that she was "having a hard time feeling bad" for Republicans, the Omaha World-Herald reported. Both comments were made Wednesday, the day of the shooting in Alexandria, Va. that injured Scalise and four others. The chairwoman of the Nebraska Democratic Party, Jane Kleeb, has requested for Gentry-Tipton's resignation. Gentry-Tipton said "Y is this so funny tho?" in response to...

St. Anthony police officer Jeronimo Yanez has been found not guilty of all counts in the fatal shooting of Philando Castile. After 27 hours of deliberation spanning five days, the jury of seven men and five women, including two people of color, reached its verdict shortly after 2 p.m. Friday. It was read in court at 2:45 p.m. Castile’s family angrily stormed out as soon as the verdicts were read. After the first not guilty verdict was read for the manslaughter charge, defense attorney Earl Gray leaned over and squeezed Yanez’s shoulders.
  • Mika Brzezinski: I guess we can’t blame this “climate of hate” shooting entirely on Trump

Via Legal Insurrection, I’m bothered less by the underlying point about Trump’s crankish tendencies and winking at political violence than by the naked opportunism in trying to score that particular political point today. It’s little different from hyperventilating about the Palin “crosshairs” map after the Giffords shooting. Thinking that it’s crass and incendiary to use a crosshairs to signal that a politician should be “targeted” for defeat on Election Day is defensible. Focusing on that in the aftermath of a shooting with no evidence that it had anything to do with the incident isn’t. It’s an attempt to shift blame...

"The meaning of peace is the absence of opposition to socialism." - Karl Marx Remember when the Obama presidency, the experts in the executive branch, his minions in Congress, his minions in the media and his minions on the streets tried to convince America that the Tea Party movement, military veterans and supporters of the Republican Party were capable of violence, and that we were somehow all a bunch of domestic terrorists? Yet, the violence from the right-wing never manifested as the liberal left predicted. Tea Party rallies were peaceful, and no mass shootings by Republicans ever happened. When mass...

In addition to visits from the president and first lady, U.S. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-Jefferson, has had his local parish priest praying by his bedside. Fr. Timothy Hedrick, parochial vicar at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Metairie, was in Washington taking a summer course at Catholic University when Scalise was shot by a lone gunman Wednesday during a baseball practice with other Republican congressmen. When news broke of the mass shooting, Hedrick rushed to MedStar Washington Hospital Center in northeast Washington to attend to Scalise and pray with his wife, Jennifer. Hedrick has also served as a...

Capitol Police Officer Crystal Griner — a lesbian in a same-sex marriage — was among those wounded during a shooting this week in the Virginia suburbs and received a visit from President Trump during his trip to the hospital to see the victims. Griner was among the five people shooter James T. Hodgkinson wounded on Wednesday during an incident at the Republican congressional baseball practice. On the House floor, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) praised her as one of the officers who saved lives during the shooting where House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) was badly wounded. According to CBS...

I’m old enough to remember when being a journalist meant being committed to seeking out the truth and sharing it with your fellow citizens. But journalists today are more interested in pushing the gun control agenda than reporting facts. In their rush to identify the firearms used in the Alexandria, VA shooting of Republican congressmen practicing on a YMCA baseball field, they showed their stupidity… and it’s pretty impressive. Let’s see how many terms and or names they came up with, shall we?

A conservative pundit and former Republican leader says there's no doubt that Wednesday's shooting at an Alexandria, Virginia, baseball field was politically motivated. Several Republican lawmakers were practicing early Wednesday morning for the annual charity baseball game between them and House Democrats when the shooting occurred. Wounded in the attack were House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana) and several others. At press time, Scalise was in critical condition following surgery. The shooter, who has since died from gun battle with police, has been identified as James T. Hodgkinson. His Facebook page featured a photo of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders...

The Democratic National Committee announced that Resistance Summer would begin in June. James Hodgkinson, a Bernie Sanders volunteer, delivered by opening fire on Republicans playing baseball. Hodgkinson had spent the weeks before the shooting staring at the site of his future attack and working on his laptop. What was he doing on his laptop? Ranting about Trump and Republicans. The left-wing terrorist who opened fire on Republicans practicing for a charity baseball game, an event to which they had brought their children, didnÂ’t come up with his own ideas. His Facebook pages were dumpsters rotting with reposted left-wing hate. There...

Democracy dies in darkness. Sometimes it helps to shed a little light on the hateful leftist echo chamber. That's what Malcolm Harris has done... ..."If the shooter has a serious health condition then is taking potshots at the GOP house leadership considered self defense?" Harris, a regular at the New Republic tweeted. Another tweet said, "Steve Scalise is stable, but a lot of Americans die from hospital errors so keep crossing your fingers." Scalise had been shot by a Bernie campaign volunteer and Maddow fan while practicing for a charity baseball game. Harris' work has appeared at the Washington Post,...

Paul Ryan had it exactly right. The politically-motivated Wednesday morning shooting at the Republican baseball practice in Alexandria gives us many mental pictures we’d like to erase, but also many images that have the power to inspire: the bravery of the first responders, the moment of shared humanity that led to a temporary shelving of partisan bile, and the determination to proceed with the Congressional Baseball game. Thousands will gather tonight at Nationals park for a game that will attract far more than its usual share of attention. Tonight, the game will be more than an evening of camaraderie; it...

Malcolm Harris, a writer for the Washington Post, attempted to justify mass-shootings targeting elected representatives following Wednesday’s radical left-wing attack. His first tweet on the shooting of Congressman Scalise read: “Some shot Steve Scalise?” with a number of eye emojis following it. Shortly thereafter, Harris tweeted the following in an attempt to justify today’s shooting that left a representative in critical condition making a reference to the repeal of Obamacare: “If the shooter has a serious health condition then is taking potshots at the GOP house leadership considered self defense?” Harris went on since to further deepen the hole he’s...

It was a bad day for America. It was an ugly day.A former Bernie Sanders campaign volunteer who hated President Trump opened fire on Republicans during baseball practice Wednesday. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise is in critical condition. Two incredibly brave Capitol Police officers were also injured along with a House aide. Rep. Mark Walker told NBC News it appeared the "gunman was there to kill as many Republican members as possible." Rep. Rodney Davis blamed what he called "political rhetorical terrorism. "This political discourse has led to gunfire," the Illinois Republican, said. What I'm about to say is politically...

After Republican Rep. Steve Scalise was shot yesterday, many liberals on twitter CELEBRATED and said things like,“The Only Good Fascist is a Dead One.”“That’s a Shame but babies blown to bits at Sandy Hook was worse and Scalise takes money from the @NRA” “If the shooter has a serious health condition then is taking potshots at the GOP leadership considered self defense?” “If KKK support Steve Scalise dies, the shooter deserves a holiday, true leadership. US president Donald Trump has visited critically-ill party whip Steve Scalise, who was shot by a rifle-wielding attacker as he practised for a charity baseball game. Mr Trump spoke to the House of Representatives majority whip's family during a visit to MedStar Washington Hospital Centre on Wednesday evening. The president and his wife Melania spent about half an hour at the hospital, where White House press secretary Sean Spicer described the scene in the intensive care unit as "emotional". Mr Spicer said the president was also briefed by Mr Scalise's medical team, met Capitol Police officer Crystal Griner, who was...
