Bloody pandemonium erupted in the Borough Hall subway station in Brooklyn Tuesday night when a retired correction officer shot and killed an apparently unarmed man who had confronted him on a No. 4 train moments earlier, police said. The man who was slain, Gilbert Drogheo, 32, and another man began harassing the 69-year-old retired officer as he boarded a Brooklyn-bound 4 train at the Bowling Green station in Manhattan around 6:30 p.m., according to police sources and a witness.

(CNN)—An Iraqi man watching his first snowfall in his new American hometown was shot and killed by an unknown assailant, according to Dallas police. Authorities have stepped up patrols in the neighborhood where Ahmed Al-Jumaili lived -- and died -- in their effort to find whoever killed the 36-year-old early Thursday as he and his brother watched the snow while Al-Jumaili's wife took photos.

The homeless man who was shot to death by Los Angeles police in a confrontation that was captured on dramatic cellphone video was a convicted bank robber living in the U.S. under a stolen French identity, authorities told NBC News on Tuesday night.

Park Police officials told News4 they're investigating a report of shots fired along BW Parkway and Route 32 in Fort Meade, Maryland. (CNN)Nine people are dead after shootings in south-central Missouri, the Houston Herald newspaper in Missouri reported Friday morning, citing a sheriff there. There are multiple crime scenes, including four in the Texas County community of Tyrone, county Sheriff James Sigman told the Herald. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is expected to hold a news conference about the deaths at about 9 a.m. CT (10 a.m. ET) Friday, CNN affiliate KYTV reported. Tyrone is about 135 miles (84 kilometers) southwest of St. Louis.

A gunman killed seven people and wounded an eighth person in an overnight house-to-house rampage in a small Missouri town before apparently committing suicide in a vehicle, authorities said Friday. The victims were found in four homes in Tyrone, about 40 miles north of the Arkansas line. CHAPEL HILL — Police charged a Chapel Hill man Wednesday with first-degree murder in the deaths of three Muslim students in a quiet neighborhood near Meadowmont just south of N.C. 54. Craig Stephen Hicks, 46, is being held in the Durham County Jail on three counts of first-degree murder.
