The gun used by former neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman to kill unarmed teen Trayvon Martin has sold at auction for over $120,000, according to reports. The last bid on the auction site United Gun Group was for $138,000, according to the Orlando Sentinel. TMZ reported its sources saying the last bid was phony, but that the weapon did sell for over $120,000. Zimmerman’s efforts to hawk the infamous weapon have been hampered by fake bids submitted by those offended by crass sale.

Doctors routinely ask if you smoke, and counsel you to wear your seat belt when you’re in a car. Technically, either behavior isn’t any of their business, but they do fall under the umbrella of preventive care. Now Dr. Garen Wintemute, director of the violence prevention research program at the University of California Davis, and his colleagues want to add firearms to the office visit for similar reasons. First, he says that no federal or state laws prevent doctors from asking their patients about whether they have guns in the home.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas urged college graduates who seek to "preserve liberty" to do so by fulfilling the duties of their daily vocations rather than attempting to achieve sweeping political goals. Missouri lawmakers passed a sweeping expansion of gun rights Friday, allowing people to carry concealed guns without needing permits while also expanding their right to stand and fight against perceived threats. The legislation, which goes to Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon, was among the most prominent measures passed by the Republican-led Legislature on the final day of its annual session. COLUMBIA, SC A woman who was on probation on a drug charge and has a long police record has been charged with murder in what Columbia police said Thursday resulted from an argument over her payment for sex. Natila J. Tucker, 41, has been charged with murder and possession of a stolen vehicle, in connection with Sunday’s shooting death of 25-year-old Tyron Donoven Jackson at North Columbia’s Coronet Motel, police said. On May 9 — less than two years since universal background checks were hoisted onto the backs of law-abiding citizens in Washington state — Gabby Giffords was in the state campaigning for special protective orders that will allow firearm confiscation. The orders — “Extreme Risk Protection Orders” — would be similar to California’s Gun Violence Restraining Orders, inasmuch as they would allow “family or household members” to petition a judge to order the temporary confiscation of firearms from another family member or person living in the household.

ORLANDO, Fla. — A man is claiming self-defense after another customer at a gas station pulled a gun out during an argument early Monday. The incident happened at about 12:48 a.m. between Titus Bernard, 29, and Delvin Jamar Broner, 36, the Orlando Police Department said.
