A child rapist deemed too young for jail is to have his sentence appealed by prosecutors after a backlash led by JK Rowling. Sean Hogg, 21, was spared prison earlier this month and instead ordered to carry out 270 hours of unpaid work for raping a 13-year-old girl in a park. The judge in the case, Lord Lake, said that had Hogg been aged 25 or over, he would have been sentenced to between four and five years in custody. However, under Scottish sentencing guidelines introduced last year, courts are told to treat those aged up to 24 much more...

The Antonine Wall, known as the Vallum Antonini, was a defensive wall built by the Romans in present-day Scotland. The wall was intended to extend dominion over lands conquered by Governor Quintus Lollius Urbicus, cementing a new frontier 100...

When India was liberated from British rule more than 75 years ago, the territory was divided, or partitioned, into India and the new state of Pakistan; East Pakistan later became Bangladesh. The British oversaw the partition along with the newly appointed Indian and Pakistani leaders in their respective newly formed nations. British civil servant Sir Cyril Radcliffe drew up the borders between India and Pakistan, in 1947, dividing the sub-continent very roughly into:a central and southern part, where Hindus had the majoritytwo parts in the north-west and north-east that mostly Muslim populationBut Hindus and Muslims were scattered throughout British India.Hence,...

A scrap of fabric found in a Highland peat bog 40 years ago is likely to be the oldest tartan ever discovered in Scotland...It was found in a Glen Affric peat bog, in the Highlands, in the early 1980s...Using high resolution digital microscopy, four initial colours of green, brown and possibly red and yellow were identified. The dye analysis confirmed the use of indigo or woad in the green but was inconclusive for the other colours, probably due to the dyestuff having degraded. No artificial or semi-synthetic dyestuffs were involved in the making of the tartan, leading researchers to believe it predates...

A man from Mississauga, Ont., told British customs agents at Aberdeen airport he didn’t have the padlock codes to open his two suitcases, but officers forced them open anyway. Inside they found nearly 33 kilos of cannabis. Pawlo Albanskyj, 29, was flying from Toronto to Birmingham, England, via Amsterdam, on Dec. 11, 2022, when his flight was rerouted to Aberdeen airport in Scotland, authorities said. U.K. Border Force agents asked him about his suitcases when he stopped at customs before leaving the departure area, according to the National Crime Agency, a national police force in the United Kingdom. Albanskyj said...

It’s not just the United States where brutal criminals are coddled.Add Scotland to the list of places where barbarism is embraced by the criminal justice system. England too, if you are a South Asian.A brutal rapist walked out of the courtroom without any prison time. Since he only raped a girl he isn’t considered much of a danger to the community.Girls don’t count for much in Scotland anyway. Unless they are transgender. Then the state will go all out for you. One must have priorities, you know.Back in 2018 Sean Hogg brutally raped a 13-year-old girl as she played in...

Dr. Anthony Fauci - who offshored banned gain-of-function research to make bat coronaviruses more transmissible to humans - has been accused by Congressional investigators of having 'prompted' the fabrication of a paper by a cadre of scientists aimed at disproving the Covid-19 lab-leak theory. On February 1, 2020, Fauci and his boss, NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins, and at least eleven other scientists participated in a conference call during which several of them warned that COVID-19 may have leaked from a lab in Wuhan, China - may have been intentionally genetically manipulated.Three days after the call, four participants from the call...

It’s all eyes on Scotland this week, after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon's surprising decision to stand down. And with a TikTok ban and a Tory tax row, it’s far from a quiet week on the rocket. Liam thinks Sturgeon's determination to have her own way on gender identity issues ultimately led to her downfall. Allison believes she ran out of road on Scottish independence, and predicts Labour could be the biggest benefactors of her shock exit. Also stepping into the sanctuary of sweet reason is author and journalist Peter Hitchens, who joins our co-pilots to discuss his latest book ‘A...

There was fury today after a transgender rapist attacked two women as a man then changed gender before the trial. Isla Bryson was a shaven-headed Adam Graham with a Mike Tyson-style face tattoo when they carried out the violent sex attacks in 2016 and 2019 after abusing the victims they originally met online. Bryson, who claimed to have had gender issues since the age of four, began transitioning from a man to a woman in 2020 after being charged with the rapes. The attacker denied the accusations, telling jurors any sex was consensual - although Bryson insisted she did not...

A battle over her support for transgender rights is not, by Nicola Sturgeon’s account, the reason she is quitting as Scotland’s first minister. But the issue has dogged her in recent weeks, precipitating a clash with the British government and ensnaring her in a messy episode involving a convicted rapist who was held in a women’s prison. Ms. Sturgeon’s problems began in December when the Scottish Parliament passed legislation that would allow transgender people to have the gender with which they identify legally recognized and to get a new birth certificate without a medical diagnosis. Britain’s government swiftly rejected the...

Nicola Sturgeon’s government rejected pleas to make concessions to critics of its controversial transgender reforms Teenagers as young as 15 will be able to begin the process of legally changing their sex after MSPs blocked a last-ditch bid to exclude children from Nicola Sturgeon’s transgender reforms. The SNP government on Tuesday rejected pleas to make meaningful concessions to critics of its controversial proposals, as a minister confirmed that Scots would become eligible to apply to change their legal sex on the day of their 16th birthday. Shona Robison, a close ally of Ms Sturgeon who is steering the bill through...

The new law means period products will be available to access in public buildings including schools and universities across Scotland. It will be the responsibility of local authorities and education providers to ensure the products are available free of charge. In 2018, the Scottish government announced that students in schools, colleges and universities across the country would be able to access sanitary products for free, through a £5.2 million ($6.3 million) investment. In 2019, it allocated another £4 million ($4.85 million) to make period products available without charge in libraries and recreational centers.

The appointment of a man as Scotland's first "period dignity officer" has provoked widespread criticism. Critics say the job should have gone to a woman and former tennis star Martina Navratilova has labelled the appointment of Jason Grant "f****** ridiculous". Mr Grant, a former personal trainer, has been given the job of promoting access to free sanitary products in schools and colleges across the Tay region. The role also includes discussing issues around the menopause. His appointment comes as Scotland becomes the first country in the world to introduce a law to widen access, free of charge, to sanitary products....

If extraterrestrial life sent us a message tomorrow, how would humanity respond? According to researchers, we don't know yet — and that's a problem. That's why, for the first time in 35 years, a team of policy experts and scientists have united to establish a set of alien-contact protocols for the entire world to follow in the event of a sudden encounter with E.T. "Science fiction is awash with explorations of the impact on human society following discovery of, and even encounters with, life or intelligence elsewhere," John Elliot, a computer scientist at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland,...

It is not thought that her departure will be immediate, allowing time for a successor to be elected. The famous Swilcan Bridge located on the 18th hole at St. Andrews’s Old Course seems to have been altered, and golf fans are not very happy about the changes. On Saturday morning, Twitter user @ukgolfguy shared a photo of the unmistakable landmark. In the picture, it appears that a circular stone pathway has been built on either side of the bridge—a structure which has been crossed by legends of the game throughout its history. The site is perhaps the most well-known golf course feature in the world. For golfers and visitors of the Old Course, it is criminal to pass...
