Sweden is simply the best. And don't take our word for it - this is the conclusion of a whole range of global rankings, write Bo Ekman and James Wine from the Tällberg Foundation. Three years ago, the Tällberg Foundation set out to find the answer to a question: which countries and which social models have created the best societies? Which can work as tried and tested visions in the development of the evermore integrated globalized civilization? To find an answer we collated the results of the most frequently quoted of the many indexes and ranking lists that compare how...

Milton Friedman, prime advisor to U.S. President Ronald Reagan, was perhaps the most insightful and clearsighted advocate of Capitalism ever. Over here in Europe (where I live), a continent characterized by Socialism, tradition, but also by high IQ levels, he was awarded the 1976 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics. Few economists ever are. Considering the fact that Europe - and especially the Scandinavian countries - were very much into Socialism at that time, 1976, this might surprise some people not having studied the details of his life or that part of recent Scandinavian history. Why would anyone in Volvo Paradise...

While Scandinavian school children today learn about how USA became the leading industrial power on Earth during the 20th century, American pupils are informed by their teachers and by American media that Scandinavians believe in a Socialist welfare state model of society. But Socialism has actually little to do with the facts that; - Norway has more dollar millionaires per capita than any other nation. - Danes are paid the highest salaries on Earth. - Swedes enjoy more of living space, drive more expensive cars than any other nation on the planet and run a nation that boasts a larger...

One of the most Muslim cities throughout Europe is Malmö, Sweden. What does it look like? http://www.hitta.se/LargeMap.aspx?start (a direct link below) (Choose "Malmö") No I don't wish to say there is no problem. There is. My point is this; - There is much at stake. - Distrust those who claim the game is already lost.

"The environment here is good, it's beautiful, it's clean," summed up Anna Elig, a 37 year-old Stockholm dweller pushing her eight-week-old daughter's carriage through the city centre on a cool, sunny afternoon. "All the moms and dads who are on parental leave go out for walks around the city ... This wouldn't work in Paris," she chuckled, strolling along the broad walkway near the sparkling water. With 40 percent of the inner city composed of green spaces, the Baltic Sea archipelago city seems a natural place to begin the European Commission's Green Capital initiative. "I wasn't surprised," said Katarina Eckerberg,...

Sweden has the world's most hooked-up economy, according to a new report from the World Economic Ranking (WEF). Nordic countries all performed well on the list in the WEF Global Information Technology report released on Thursday. Sweden displaced Denmark to rank first on the chart, with the Danes sliding to third place. Other Nordic countries were also in the top 10, with Finland in sixth place and Norway in tenth. Singapore crept closer to the top, moving up from fourth place last year to second place now. Fellow Asian economy Hong Kong was in eighth place, also gaining from 12th...

Like it or not, Scandinavia has the money. Over here, it's a common hobby among people who work only 8 hours a day to restore old American cars to mint condition. I crash my Volvo V70 on a dialy basis. Anyhow; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rlb5MQNP0y4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brMEEFa6uSo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjubllAIfpQ Why conform?

Is USA still to be viewed as the leading nation on Earth? Yes and if anyone of us here in "Old" Europe (I'm Swedish) would claim it sooner is Britain, France or Germany, they're either lying, joking, ignorant or downright insane. But this is not why most intelligent Europeans supports the US (and believe me, there are hundred of millions of us). We participate in the WOT and seek cooperation with America because Western Civilization is one and we won't forget what you did for us during three major wars (the Cold War included) last century. Let's all forget Chirac...

A man claiming to be wheelchair bound has been jailed for three years after he was caught on camera dancing with a rabbit mascot at an amusement park in western Sweden. The 33-year-old's father was also given a three year sentence by Halmstad district court for his role in the major disability benefits swindle, local newspaper Hallandsposten reports. As The Local reported in July, the 33-year-old man was asked to repay millions of kronor in social insurance benefits after authorities obtained a picture of him dancing with a life-sized rabbit at the Liseberg amusement park in Gothenburg. The 33-year-old, from...

Seriously, Why do America think it rules the Earth? It does not. My home country, Sweden, has 9 million inhabitants and we rule Europe, aka the largest economy on the planet. Test me. Does a Koenigsegg embarrass a Lamborghini or what.. China, the US as well as Germany are loosers in the game of industrial achievments compared to my "little" nation. Why is it so hard for you to manufacture real world products?

Bismarck, N.D. - BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Former White House political adviser Karl Rove says he has an appreciation for all things Norse. Except lutefisk. "Any food that's key element is lye takes an acquired taste," Rove said of the dried cod dish that is reconstituted by soaking it in the alkaline solution. Lutefisk aside, the top strategist for former President George W. Bush said Tuesday that his Scandinavian roots run deep. His stepfather was of Norwegian ancestry, he said. "I have a brother, uncle and great-uncle named Olaf," Rove said. Rove is to North Dakota to be inducted into...

I live in Gothenburg, the eternal "second" town of Sweden. But today, it's hats off to big brother! Stockholm is expensive, but marvelous and has recently become home to two million inhabitants. Like it or not Denmark, Stockholm is THE capital of Scandinavia. Quite contrary to the received wisdom concerning Islam's advance on Scandinavian soil, recent birth statistics from Stockholm, sole Scandinavian city boasting more than two million inhabitants, indicate that Muslim immigrants of Stockholm fail to keep up with native Swedes in this domain. According to today's edition of the free daily newspaper of City Stockholm, the inhabitants of Sweden's capital have lately been catching up with the rest of Sweden in terms of breeding, which actually is something rather unique. For a long time, Stockholm has been way behind the rest of the nation in this regard (- during the last...

The far-right Sweden Democrats have increased their support to a record 5.6 percent, according to a new voter poll published on Thursday. The Pirate Party, fresh from its success in the EU elections, has however fallen 1.3 percentage points and enjoys 2.9 percent support, according to the poll by United Minds and Cint which was published in the Aftonbladet newspaper. Since the previous poll in July the Sweden Democrats have increased their support by 1.5 points. Party leader Jimmie Åkesson is aiming for even higher in the general election to be held next year. "Our goal is to land on...

Scandinavia of today has, to a great deal, abandonded Socialism. Yes, Nordic taxes still lead the world, but so do Nordic companies. In several fields. Not only in the domain of cheap furniture and safe cars. Today, (Finnish) Nokia and (Swedish) Ericsson might well decide our common IT future to a larger degree than IBM and Microsoft do. Perhaps, Capitalism is a force so strong it could even survive European Socialism. I'm an optimist regarding my corner of the Eart. I feel the vast majority of the Scandinavians are beginning to realize companies like Lego, Electrolux and ABB buy us...

FRANKFURT — General Motors is close to a deal to sell Saab, the Swedish carmaker, to Koenigsegg, a manufacturer of high-end sports cars that is also from Sweden, a person close to the negotiations said Thursday. “We are still working on the deal,” the person said, requesting anonymity because the agreement is not final. “It is not the done deal that some people in Sweden seem to think it is.” Swedish television reported that a group of Norwegian investors are also part of the deal.

Nearly half of the predominantly Iraqi-refugees residing in Vännäs in northern Sweden have decided to permanently move out of the area after being terrorized by what police called “a lynch mob” in early May. “I thought that Vännäs was the perfect place for us. And there are many, many friendly people here. But we still don’t dare to stay; I’m seriously concerned about my children’s safety,” said father of five Ismail Ramadan to the Svenska Dagbladet (SvD) newspaper. Ramadan’s family and several others have decided to abandon plans of starting a life in the small community outside of Umeå less...
