Georgia Senate hopeful Herschel Walker (R) downplayed himself ahead of his debate with Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) next month, saying “I’m not that smart” — comments that his campaign argued were sarcasm. The book is based on more than 30 hours of interviews Pack conducted with Thomas and his wife Ginni for the film of the same name; 95% of the book’s material is new, including this excerpt. Michael Pack: You have talked a little today about how life in the black community has not been improved by many well-intentioned social programs. Do you think, in some sense, it is...

    Breitbart ^ | 07/26/20201 | Hannah Bleu
The City of Savannah, Georgia, is one of the latest areas to reinstitute a mask mandate, Mayor Van Johnson (D) announced on Monday. “This is not a political issue, this is purely public safety and public health,” the Democrat mayor said almost two months after shifting the city’s mask mandate from a mandate to guidance. “I would not have made this decision without the advice and recommendation of those that are behind me. They didn’t learn about it online, they didn’t look up theories and things, they went to school,” Johnson said. “This is what they do, professionally.” The Democrat...
  • Crews were dredging the river. Instead of muck, they pulled up three cannons and a mystery[Savannah River]

Dredging the Savannah River is like a box of chocolates, say those who head up the task. You never know what you're gonna find. How about three cannons that may date to the American Revolution, an anchor and a likely piece of ship's timber? The Army Corps of Engineers halted work in the vicinity after the late February discovery east of the Georgia city's famous River Street. Then it sent out feelers to maritime experts, historians and those who have worked on wreck sites in the river, asking for their insight into the finds. Perhaps the cannons were tossed overboard or...

  • Clothing store waives $20 appointment fee for black customers — but whites still have to pay up. And backlash is intense.

A clothing store in downtown Savannah, Georgia, raised some eyebrows recently when it waived a $20 appointment fee for black customers and other people of color while keeping the fee intact for white customers, WJCL-TV reported. "Most of the feedback has been that our decision to waive this refundable deposit is racist because it favors people of color, black people, and indigenous people," Blunk added the station. However, the store said that white customers who don't have $20 for an appointment can select the "don't agree" on the booking form so the booking manager can reach out and come up...

Keep Savannah Creepy. That is the mission of Ryan Graveface, owner and curator of the Graveface Museum. Savannah has a weirdo reputation to uphold and Graveface works tirelessly to maintain it. Even those familiar with Graveface’s other businesses — his many record labels, his bands, his record store and curiosity shop in the Starland District — may be shocked by the sheer depth of rare and fascinating objects that fill his museum. Located on Factors Walk — the creepier, more shadowy side of River Street — the Graveface Museum is home to a priceless collection of weird memorabilia and artifacts...

Sherman's "March to the Sea" was over. During the campaign General Sherman had made good on his promise d “to make Georgia howl”. Atlanta was a smoldering ruin, Savannah was in Union hands, closing one of the last large ports to Confederate blockade runners. The pervy jogger who slapped a TV reporter’s behind during a 10K in Georgia has been identified by officials — and banned from future races. Race organizers had immediately vowed to find the handsy creep who left WSAV-TV anchor Alex Bozarjian feeling “violated, objectified, and embarrassed” while she reported on Saturday’s Savannah Bridge Run. “Yesterday afternoon we identified him and shared his information with the reporter and her station,” the Savannah Sports Council tweeted, without revealing his name publicly. “We will not tolerate behavior like this at a Savannah Sports Council event,” the council said in another post. “We have...

Race was front and center on Wednesday night during a meeting coordinated to garner support for just one black candidate in Savannah’s mayoral election. With signs stating “Black press only” on the doors of the church where the meeting was held, white reporters were barred from entry, while black reporters for at least two television stations were permitted inside. The event was coordinated by the Rev. Clarence Teddy Williams, owner of the consulting firm, The Trigon Group, who declined to discuss the entry policy. Former Savannah Mayor Edna Jackson declined to comment before going inside, as did Chatham County Commissioner...

It was about 11 p.m., an hour before the end of Emelia Holden’s waitress shift late last month, when she felt the hand grab her backside. Holden, 21, had just finished taking a customer’s order and placing a stack of menus on an unoccupied table in the small restaurant, Vinnie Van Go-Go’s pizzeria in Savannah, Ga. At first she thought it might have been her female co-worker, she recalled to local CBS affiliate WTOC.
