Just days before Tuesday’s election in the tight race for San Diego’s 52nd Congressional District seat, a second former staffer for Republican candidate Carl DeMaio is accusing him of sexual harassment. Navy veteran Justin Harper, 25, said he began interning with DeMaio’s campaign in February and was hired as a regional political director a month later. His job was to make phone calls and knock on doors to ask voters for their support. Harper said he quit on July 12, two days after an incident involving DeMaio in a restroom at campaign headquarters.

As the state issued a new quarantine order on Wednesday for travelers returning from West Africa, San Diego County is monitoring three people for symptoms of the disease, a public health official confirmed Wednesday evening. The three individuals have a low risk of infection, according to the county Health and Human Services Agency. They are among 19 statewide being monitored in 11 counties across California, according to a statement made by the California Department of Public Health. Che Cafe at UCSD must close, judge rules SAN DIEGO — The student-run Che Cafe at UC San Diego will have to close its doors after a judge ruled Tuesday in favor of the university in its eviction lawsuit. UCSD filed suit after the student collective refused to vacate the 1940s- era building on campus. University officials said the building needs $700,000 in repairs to stay open. Superior Court Judge Katherine Bacal ruled in favor of UCSD after a bench trial.

A La Jolla lab is on the front lines of the fight against the Ebola Virus. The outbreak in West Africa has killed at least 961 people and prompted the World Health Organization to declare an international public health emergency. On the other side of the world from ground zero, researchers at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla are looking at how the Ebola virus attaches to parts of the body and how it multiplies and replicates.

One man made the discovery of a lifetime while out on a recent hike. SD Unified gets armored vehicle City schools police have obtained their own military-grade Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle through a federal grant. Known as an MRAP, the armored mobile will be converted into a victim rescue vehicle that will be stocked with thousands of dollars in advanced medical supplies and be able to take heavy fire in case of an attack on campus, the San Diego Unified School District Police Department said Tuesday. Medical marijuana smokers in San Diego say the city has forced their pot shops to locate in remote areas and that means the drives to and from will increase air pollution — and ultimately, harm their lungs. A 29-year-old cosplay photographer was arrested Sunday morning at the San Diego Marriott Marquis and Marina hotel in connection with the discovery of a bloodied and unconscious 17-year-old cosplayer in town for San Diego Comic-Con. Justin Kalior was arrested early Sunday morning, July 27, in the hotel at 333 West Harbor Drive, police told Polygon. A 6-day black rhino was already seen trotting around the exhibit on Friday morning -- in adorable fashion. The baby rhino alternated between staying close to his mother and running and exploring the exhibit. Mom Lembe showed her protection of the calf by keeping her tail pointed up, a cue that lets her baby know she’s on high alert and watching him.
