Apple wowed the world with its iPhone X. Now it's Samsung's turn. The South Korean electronics giant on Sunday will unveil its latest phone, the Galaxy S9, at its Unpacked event at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain. Samsung's invitation for the launch featured the number nine -- for the name of the device -- as well as the teaser, "The Camera. Reimagined." The Galaxy S series is Samsung's most important product line. If you own an Android phone, the odds are pretty high that it bears a Samsung logo. Last year, about one out of every...

iPhone fans are not going to like hearing this, but Samsung's Galaxy Note7 (yes, there's no space) is the best smartphone money can buy right now. I don't make that statement lightly. I've been a devout iPhone user who has owned four iPhones as his main everyday-carry phone for the last six years. Against all odds, Samsung has made the most impressive smartphone ever created.

NY Times: Samsung finally seems to understand the many criticisms that have long been leveled at its phones: the plastic hardware looked cheap, the most promoted features were mostly useless and the software was too complicated,” Farhad Manjoo writes for The New York Times. “Samsung, according to Samsung, has realized the errors of it ways.” “The realization was born out of necessity. Samsung’s market share and profits in the smartphone business have plummeted over the last year. The company, which is based in South Korea, is in the unenviable position of getting squeezed from the bottom by the affordable phones...
  • Samsung Galaxy S6 Review: The iPhone 6 Has Met Its Match

A better camera, sharper display and faster charging put Samsung’s new flagship phones ahead in the smartphone race. In this unpredictable world, it’s the constants in life that I can count on. The sun rises in the East, Starbucks lattes always taste the same, and Apple’s iPhones are always better than Samsung’s Galaxy phones. Since the dawn of the smartphone wars, there have been basic truths about Samsungs: They’re made of flimsy plastic, their cameras can’t keep up with the iPhone’s, and their modified Android software is ugly and intolerably cluttered. With the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, which arrive...
  • Frustrated curmudgeon seeks help (vanity)

    Impatience and frustration | 4/10/14 | me
I just received a Samsung Galaxy S4 cell phone and can't figure it out. I was satisfied with my old Motorola flip phone; it rang when I wanted, reminded me of meetings and even sent text messages. This new thing has a pretty screen and more stuff than a space shuttle, but finding it and making it work is next to impossible with no grandkids here to help.
