There might soon be thousands more licensed drivers in the Grand Canyon State. The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that Arizona must offer driver’s licenses to thousands of young immigrants who entered the United States illegally but were protected from deportation by a presidential order in 2012, The Associated Press reports. In a 6-3 decision, justices denied Gov. Jan Brewer’s request for a stay on a circuit court ruling. Justices Samuel Alito, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas said they would have granted the stay.

WASHINGTON — It was late spring, and Republican leaders knew that if they wanted to win the Senate, they needed to crush the enemy: not Democrats, but the rebels within their own party. And Chris McDaniel, a Senate candidate from Mississippi who had a history of making sexist and racially insensitive remarks, was a problem. Candidates like Scott Brown, running for the Senate in New Hampshire, called the National Republican Senatorial Committee to complain that if Mr. McDaniel was not stopped, he could drag the whole party down. Strategists inside the committee’s headquarters on Capitol Hill were envisioning nightmares of...
  • Attack Ad on ‘Immigration Amnesty’ Puts Karl Rove in Unexpected Camp

Karl Rove’s support for what many Americans consider amnesty for illegal immigrants has put the Republican political guru at odds with The Heritage Foundation for a decade. That’s why observers of current and past incarnations of “immigration reform” were surprised to learn of Rove’s association with a campaign ad drawing attention in a hot U.S. Senate race. The 30-second ad was paid for by American Crossroads, a political action group largely financed by Rove, best known as chief political aide to President George W. Bush. The ad, which first aired early this month, cites a Heritage Foundation report last year...

Democrats assumed earlier this year that ObamaCare would be a political advantage by Election Day. North Carolina Sen. Kay Hagan, for example, said in February she wanted to show the Affordable Care Act “is something whose time is come.” A month later Colorado Sen. Mark Udall said “we did the right thing” in passing the law and told voters he “would do it again,” a response echoed by incumbents Mark Pryor (Arkansas) and Mary Landrieu (Louisiana). It isn’t working out that way. As the election nears, ObamaCare is re-emerging as a major liability for the Democratic Senate that passed it....

Bill O'Reilly had a little fun at Karl Rove's expense on Monday night. While appearing on "The O'Reilly Factor" from Las Vegas, Rove whipped out his whiteboard to drive home some points about the upcoming midterm election. When the political strategist finished, O'Reilly warned him not to bring the whiteboard into the casinos. "I don't gamble," Rove said. "With your prediction record, that's a wise move," O'Reilly cracked. "Y'know that was personal and petty," Rove said. "That was personal and petty." "That's me," said O'Reilly. "P and P."

The Left would rather forget its old slogan, “Bush lied, thousands died.” The very mention of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and Iraq was toxic for Republicans by 2005. They wanted to forget about the supposed absence of recently manufactured WMD in great quantities in Iraq; Democrats saw Republican defensiveness as key to their recovery in 2006. By the time Obama was elected, the issue had been demagogued to death, was no longer of any political utility, and so vanished. So why all of a sudden is the New York Times strangely focused on old WMD stockpiles showing up in...

NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE www.nationalreview.com PRINT October 19, 2014 12:00 AM Rove Agonistes Karl Rove’s metamorphosis into legend is now complete. By Kevin D. Williamson ‘Karl Rove targets attorney general race in California.” “Who’s afraid of Kamala Harris? Karl Rove!” “Karl Rove Attacks — We Need Your Help!” Karl Rove’s starring role in the 2010 California attorney general’s race came as a surprise to Karl Rove, who wasn’t actually involved in that particular contest. This happens with him all the time. For the Left, Rove served for many years as the go-to bogeyman, the marquee name with which to conjure before...
  • Bush Didn’t Lie: But why did his administration sit on the evidence of Saddam Hussein’s WMDs?

New media accounts — including coverage by NRO’s Patrick Brennan — confirm what I repeatedly have written since the depths of Operation Iraqi Freedom: The late dictator Saddam Hussein did have weapons of mass death, and the United States of America was correct to invade Iraq, find these toxins, and destroy them. Also vital: padlocking this Baathist general store for militant-Islamic terrorism. As I explained on July 17, 2006: While the liberal press gently sleeps, evidence continues to mount that Hussein had WMDs, though perhaps not in quantities that would bulge warehouses. “Since 2003 Coalition forces have recovered approximately...

There’s one man, some Republicans say, who kept the public from learning about the chemical shells littered around the Iraqi battlefield. He was Bush's most important political adviser. Starting in 2004, some members of the George W. Bush administration and Republican lawmakers began to find evidence of discarded chemical weapons in Iraq. But when the information was brought up with the White House, senior adviser Karl Rove told them to ‘let these sleeping dogs lie.’ The issue of Iraq’s WMD remnant was suddenly thrust back into the fore this week, with a blockbuster New York Times report accusing the Bush...

GOP strategist Karl Rove is predicting nine states will flip from Democrat to Republican in the November 4 Senate elections, but he's also predicting three will go the other way. If he's right, that would still give Republicans control of the Senate by the slimmest of margins — 51-49. Appearing on "Fox News Sunday," Rove listed his predictions for Republican pickups — from most- to least-likely — as Montana, West Virginia, South Dakota, Alaska, Louisiana, Arkansas, Iowa, Colorado and North Carolina. His predictions for GOP losses were Kansas, Georgia and Kentucky. Rove predicted a "barn burner" in South Dakota, where...

Karl Rove recently tried to advise Republicans on how the party can more effectively take back the Senate in November. He made two main suggestions. One was that Republican candidates must “make the case for electing someone new who will be a check and balance in the Senate on Mr. Obama and his agenda, rather than returning a Democratic loyalist who toes his line.” Rove’s second suggestion was that the party should “offer a positive, optimistic conservative agenda to make independents who disapprove of Mr. Obama comfortable voting Republican.” Rove is right on both counts, especially about offering a positive...

GOP establishment strategist and talking head Karl Rove conspicuously omitted illegal immigration in his advice to GOP Senate candidates on how to close the sale to voters in this year's midterm elections. In a column in the Wall Street Journal, Rove urges Senate candidates to talk about "pro-growth policies like tax reform and regulatory relief, spending restraint to reduce the debt, health-care reforms to replace ObamaCare and energy policies like the Keystone XL pipeline" in addition to national defense. Republican Senate candidates like Scott Brown in New Hampshire and Tom Cotton in Arkansas started to surge after they made illegal...

Hey Reince-wash-repeat Preibus, there's a reason I don't answer your sad-sounding emails (ever), with titles like 'Hope You Can Join Us for Lunch!', 'What's Your T-Shirt Size?', OR my personal favorite "..., did you abandon the RNC?'-  Something like that-- we'll just forget you've been trying to kill us, no hard feelings, I guess- lol. Of course, I almost never even open their relentless spam, and...

Just as a high stakes gambler in the wrong place at the wrong time might get "rolled" from time to time, Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson appears ripe to get "Roved" yet again based upon reports he's "donated $10 million to a Karl Rove-backed outfit boosting Republican Senate candidates and promised a similar amount to an allied group focused on House races."
  • Karl Rove accuses Alison Lundergan Grimes of supporting amnesty even though he supports amnesty

Karl Rove, writing in the WSJ in defense of the the Rubio-Schumer senate amnesty plan… "There is growing public support for providing a pathway to citizenship for those now in the country illegally…support for a pathway has grown most among Republicans." (SNIP) Aside from his personal advocacy, Rove’s various Super PACs– which he operates through a statutory labyrinth of plausible deniability– spent millions selling conservatives on Rubiocare. (SNIP) The irony here is that all three players– Karl Rove, Alison Lundergan Grimes, and Mitch McConnell– support amnesty… Mitch McConnell voted for amnesty in 1986 [RC #335, 10/17/86] Mitch McConnell co-sponsored amnesty...

It’s “the A-Word,” and it can damn any immigration bill to oblivion. The word is “amnesty,” or as one immigration-control advocate calls it, “the death word.” It’s a charge that a lot of people want to make and nobody wants to hear. (SNIP) “For some, you would think amnesty is in the eye of the beholder because there are some critics who have nothing constructive to offer who criticize every proposal as amnesty or amnesty light,” says Sen. John Cornyn, Texas Republican. (SNIP) “I’ve seen no guest-worker program that didn’t include amnesty — amnesty defined by Webster’s,” says Rep. Steve...

Karl Rove and his Crossroads GPS PAC are about to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in the senate -- by campaigning to the left of incumbents Mark Pryor and Kay Hagan on behalf of Republican challengers Tom Cotton and Thom Tills. So blatant is this attempt in the latest round of TV ads that the Washington Post teased Rove with a headline that taunted him as a "bleeding heart liberal." Reporter/blogger Greg Sargent said in the story that the two ad campaigns "show Republicans once again hitting Dems from the left on entitlements." Salon ridiculed the North Carolina...
