Internal polling commissioned by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) showed that in battleground congressional districts voters prefer President Donald Trump over Democrat frontrunner Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), according to a report released Friday. A Politico report found that voters in swing districts targeted by Republicans and Democrats remain skeptical of the democratic socialist, with 42 percent approving of the Vermont senator and 53 disapproving. The NRCC survey found that voters prefer Trump 48 to Sanders’ 43 percent.

Hired in July to augment Donald Trump’s campaign staff and then promoted to be his campaign manager six weeks later, Kellyanne Conway (shown) has announced, "We’re in a war of attrition" in the campaign against Hillary Clinton.A war of attrition is won when the enemy has sustained such continuous and devastating losses that he (or she) leaves the field of contest. And that’s why, says Conway, "The content-free campaign is over. We are going to force the conversation to issues, because the issues favor Donald Trump."Conway may just have what it will take to win that war. Two decades of...

Ken Cuccinelli lost the governor's race in Virginia, but here's the thing — he didn't lose by that much. Only 3 points. Because the race came so close, far right Republicans blame the GOP establishment for not doing more to give Cuccinelli a boost. The Republican National Committee put $9 million into Gov. Bob McDonnell's campaign in 2009. This year, Cuccinelli got $3 million. Cuccinelli "was betrayed by his own party," Rush Limbaugh told listeners on Wednesday afternoon, but the betrayal was not a surprise. Limbaugh said: "In Virginia the GOP simply didn't want a Tea Party candidate winning there....
  • Viewed as out of touch, GOP gathers forces to plot rebirth (And guess which way they want to go)

Kevin Madden, a GOP strategist who worked on Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign last year, said the retreat gives lawmakers a chance to start laying the groundwork necessary to re-establish the GOP brand. “Right now, we are caught in a vicious cycle of just reacting to events that happen in two-week increments. Instead, we have to look at our challenge of rebuilding in a much more comprehensive fashion,” Mr. Madden said. “What is the positive impression that we want voters to have two years from now, and then four years from now, when we have another presidential election?” SNIP Ford O’Connell,...

The biggest story of the past election was how President Obama’s team was able to get his interest groups to the polls and how correspondingly the Republicans feel behind on certain interest groups. It is clear Republican failed to capture the votes of Hispanics, Asians and other groups. So let’s take a look at where they are and what they need to do. To discover what happened one has to look at what the Republicans have been doing and why they failed to attract certain voters. The first and most important point is not that they have failed policies or...
  • The GOP Can’t Afford to Ignore Cities Anymore

After a week of election postmortems, one thing is clear: Mitt Romney’s failure to understand America’s changing demographics led to his undoing. But there was another killer: Geography. Deep blue cities and their inner suburbs came out for Barack Obama, pulling the president through in battleground states like Colorado, Ohio, Virginia, and Florida. And they put him so far ahead in places like Wisconsin, Nevada, and Pennsylvania that Romney never really had a chance (not to mention his home base of Suffolk County, Massachusetts, which went 78 percent for the president). Of course, this isn't a new phenomenon. In 2008,...

In an American election focused on a lousy economy and high unemployment, conventional wisdom holds that foreign policy is one of Barack Obama's few strong suits. But the president is strikingly vulnerable in this area. The Republican who leads the GOP ticket can attack him on what Obama mistakenly thinks is his major strength by translating the center-right critique of his foreign policy into campaign themes and action. Here's how to beat him.

Declaring the party "off the mat" and in fighting shape, the leaders of the Republican National Committee yesterday vowed to keep pressure on Barack Obama and the Democrats and to revamp the party in order to regain territory lost in the past two election cycles. At their first winter meeting as they settle into what could be a long stretch in the opposition, the voting members of the Republican National Committee pledged to hold President Barack Obama and the Democratic-led Congress to account, to rein in the expansion of the federal government – and to wait for the Democrats to...
