NASB Version: Ecclesiastes 5:7 For in many dreams and in many words there is emptiness. Rather, fear God. Ecclesiastes 5:8 If you see oppression of the poor and denial of justice and righteousness in the province, do not be shocked at the sight, for one official watches over another official, and there are higher officials over them. The centuries-old Basilica of St. Benedict in Norcia — already damaged in a spate of strong quakes in central Italy — was "destroyed" early Sunday in the latest and greatest of tremors, its monks said. The monastery was among dozens of building in towns scattered throughout the mountainous region to collapse during the 6.6-magnitude quake that struck around 7:40 a.m., according to reports. There was no immediate reports of fatalities, but officials with Italy’s civil protection agency said there were injuries following the seismic activity. First responders rushed to piles of rubble searching for trapped victims after the tremor woke...

I am a sinner of the worst kind, and there is no reason God should listen to me. But I can not get out of my mind when Abraham argued with God about Sodom.

Sorry for the vanity, folks, but I'm looking for some input from Freepers who are members of one of the Christian health-sharing ministries I've heard advertised on the radio. I'm in the application process for an individual medical insurance plan, and I just learned that I'm not eligible for a mid-year enrollment because I don't have a "qualifying life event" under Federal law. At first I thought I would just need to cover a two-month gap in my insurance coverage between November 1st of this year and January 1st of next year when I'll be eligible through open enrollment, but...

Ve haf vays of making you visit the mosque… Many thanks to Nash Montana for translating this brief item from oe24.at: Student refuses mosque visit: €300 penalty Parents are lodging an appeal. But still a €300 penalty is looming,...

The University Town Center Mall in Sarasota, Florida, has issued a very specific directive: "For choral groups, the Mall prefers no clearly recognizable Christian music, such as carols sung in English, spirituals or gospel." In a memo sent out to area groups who are normally invited to perform seasonal music, the upscale shopping mall leaders have in effect banned any music that could be recognized as "Christian." . . . . . . .

A Canadian man is suing Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) to have “God” removed from its famous Twelve Step program, alleging discrimination against atheists, agnostics, and freethinkers. First published in 1939, the “Twelve Steps” of Alcoholics Anonymous have a significant spiritual component, and six of the twelve make direct reference to God or a “higher power.” Those following the program must acknowledge their powerlessness over alcohol and their dependence upon God to restore them to health.

Latest statistics have shown that in 2016 more than half a million Saudi men are reported to have more than one spouse at a time. A recent annual report on polygamy, a common practice in Saudi Arabia, has revealed that around 73000 men between the age of 25 to 49 engaged in polygamous relationships. Men from the age group of 50 to 54 years came in the second place. The report, which Alarabiya.net has obtained a copy of, also showed that more than 16,000 cases among men between the ages of 60-64 were married to at least three women at...

Imams and preachers in mosques around the Kingdom are increasingly resorting to technology to perform their tasks and some of them even rely on smart devices such as iPads to read out Friday sermons. However, some religious scholars disapprove of the trend. Sheikh Khalid Al-Faris, the imam of Umm Ibrahim Al-Faris Mosque in Najran, considered the use of electronic devices instead of paper for referring to notes while delivering Friday sermons as inappropriate and ill-advised. “Worshippers come to mosques for spiritual enhancement and their feelings must be respected. Giving a sermon looking into an iPad is disrespectful,” said Al-Faris. Sheikh...

A bakery in Northern Ireland owned by evangelical Christians has lost an appeal to overturn a conviction that found it guilty of discrimination for refusing to bake a pro-gay-marriage themed cake. The court of appeal in Belfast on Monday upheld a previous judgment last year that Ashers Bakery had discriminated against a customer on the grounds of sexual orientation. The family-owned firm in the original case was also ordered to pay £500 compensation to the local gay rights activist Gareth Lee, whose legal action was backed by the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland. Lee had tried to buy a cake...

It is for the jury to determine whether this attack upon the Christian religion shall be permitted in the public schools of Tennessee by teachers employed by the State and paid out of the public treasury. This case is no longer local: the defendant ceases to play an important part. The case has assumed the proportions of a battle royal between unbelief that attempts to speak through so-called science and the defenders of the Christian faith. speaking through the legislators of Tennessee. It is again a choice between God and Baal; it is also a renewal of the issue in...

Iraq’s parliament has passed a law forbidding the import, production or selling of alcoholic beverages in a surprise move that angered many in the country’s Christian community who rely on the business. The law, passed late Saturday night, imposes a fine of up to 25 million Iraqi dinars, or $21,000, for anyone violating the ban. But it’s unclear how strictly the law would be enforced, and it could be struck down by the supreme court. Islam forbids the consumption of alcohol, but it has always been available in Iraq’s larger cities, mainly from shops run by Christians. Those shops are...

There is more human carnage in the first five minutes of Hacksaw Ridge than in the entirety of most any other movie you will see this year. The film’s opening sequence is a bloody ballet of bullets and flame, all played out in slow motion so that not a single spurt of blood or fleck of charred flesh is passed over by the camera. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it is safe to say that Mel Gibson has in no way mellowed during his 10-year-long self-inflicted sabbatical from the director’s chair. And apparently, if the standing ovation given by the hundreds...

Full title - "Is Facebook listening to your Confession? In an era of mobile microphones and apps that listen, both priest and penitent should be prudent about what they carry into the confessional" “All phones have a microphone, and Facebook and many other phone apps require access to the microphone and camera,” said Fr. George Hajj, parish priest at St. Anthony of Padua Maronite Church in the United States. “Therefore we don’t know what technology, and in whose interest it is in, to spy and overhear what is being said in the confessional.” For Father Andrew Pinsent, Research Director at...
