However, many school districts and parents argue that giving children the option to drink flavored milk is a way to get them the much-needed health benefits that they would miss if they don’t like regular milk. In a statement to the Wall Street Journal, Urban School Food Alliance executive director Katie Wilson criticized the proposal, arguing that the Agriculture Department is considering taking a product that is widely enjoyed by students and includes “nine essential nutrients” and telling them they will have to “drink plain” milk instead. “What are they trying to prove,” Wilson added.

The case left doctors shell shocked. A French hospital was partially evacuated Saturday after a senior citizen arrived with a World War I artillery shell lodged in his rectum. The 88-year-old patient visited Hospital Sainte Musse in Toulon to have the antique explosive removed — but instead sparked a “bomb scare,” French publication Var-Matin reported. “An emergency occurred from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday evening that required the intervention of bomb disposal personnel, the evacuation of adult and pediatric emergencies as well as the diversion of incoming emergencies,” a hospital spokesperson stated. “We had to manage the risk...

Actor John Lithgow wrote an op-ed that appeared in Thursday's New York Times that comes off more like a therapy session of a very angry patient giving vent to his extreme Trump Derangement Syndrome. The surprising thing is that the Times editors seemed to have done nothing to tone down Lithgow's embarrassing rants. The result is the reader is put in the position of a therapist listening to the ranting of an Anger Management patient. His apparent expertise, according to the Times, is as author of the forthcoming poetry book Dumpty: The Age of Trump in Verse. Lithgow's overflowing contempt is...

On CNN's Inside Politics, Politico’s Mike Allen reported on an new effort by Rand Paul to address the current view that he is allegedly an isolationist, reports Political Ticker. Allen said on the show that Rand is planning a high-profile speech at the National Defense University this fall to address critics, and attempt to reposition himself on the foreign policy spectrum. “He’s going to argue that he’s smack in the middle - the same place that George H.W. Bush was, that Reagan was, and that Ike was,” said Allen. There will be a lot of truth in Rand's attempt to...

Original Title:Hank Aaron Says Republicans are Like the KKK but with ‘Neckties and Starched Shirts’ Instead of Hoods Hank Aaron is a baseball icon. Forty years ago he broke Babe Ruth's all-time homerun record of 714. He ended his career with a total of 755. Barry Bonds surpassed Aaron's record with a total of 762. Since there are claims that Bonds was "juiced," the record is viewed as suspect. When Aaron was getting close to Ruth's record, the racists came out similar to the way they did when Jackie Robinson broke the baseball color barrier in 1945. They wrote nasty...

The clergyman, in his 50s, told nurses he had been hanging curtains when he fell backwards on to his kitchen table. He happened to be nude at the time of the mishap, said the vicar, who insisted he had not been playing a sex game. The vicar had to undergo a delicate operation to extract the vegetable, one of a range of odd items medics in Sheffield have had to remove from people's backsides or genitals. Others include a can of deodorant, a cucumber, a Russian doll – and a carnation.

I enjoy this forum, but lately I've noticed a troubling tendency for posters here to descend into horrible and immature name-calling. Such name-calling, and extremism without reason does nothing but harm our cause. It turns off casual lurkers and readers of this forum. It provides fodder for this forum to be demonized and non-respected elsewhere. Below I provide a few examples. I call on Freepers to stop using such terms voluntarily. If that doesn't work, I call on the moderators to warn, if not censor, posters who use such terms. I realize that Democratic Underground uses even more ridiculous terms...

Hey, as you can probably tell im new here. I am 18, not sure who to vote for, and in need of some help. I will partly base my vote on what both Kerry and Bush will do in the future. Not based on anything else. Not Swift Boats, not Senate Records, not the economy. The past is the past. A true leader leads the country to the future, not dwell on the past, like both Republicans and Democrats have done recently. What are Bush's plans for the future, in concrete examples? Not just "Fight War on Terror!" Are there...
