COLUMBIA — Statehouse lawmakers will be in session less time in 2017 and Georgia gun permit holders can now carry their weapons in South Carolina after Gov. Nikki Haley on Friday signed dozens of bills passed by the General Assembly into law. After about 20 years on the table, lawmakers this year voted to shorten the legislative session by three or four weeks, depending on how the calendar falls. Legislators will head home on the second Thursday in May, instead of the first Thursday in June, beginning next year. In 2018 and some other years ahead, the session would be...

The decision by Virginia’s Attorney General Mark Herring to sever reciprocity in carry permits with 25 other states has one state senator seeing red. Bob Carrico considers the issue “absurd,†but plans to do more than fume about it. If the Terry McAuliffe administration worries this much about firearms, Carrico wants to take action to keep them as far away from the governor as possible, according to the Bristol Herald-Courier: "I absolutely think it's absurd," Carrico, a Republican from Galax, said Tuesday. "I think it's a threat to the people of Virginia that have concealed carry handgun permit reciprocity from...

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety has posted the new reciprocity list for the State, in order to meet the requirements of the gun law reform passed in 2015. As expected of an appointee of an openly disarmist governor, the list approved by the Commissioner of Public Safety is very restrictive, removing four states for minor differences in the law, and adding eight states or state permits that have limited numbers. The additional eight states permits now be recognized by the State of Minnesota are: Delaware, Idaho (enhanced permit), Illinois, New Jersey, North Dakota (enhanced permit), Rhode Island, South...

In May of 2015, Minnesota enacted an omnibus firearm reform law. The law went into effect yesterday, 1 August, 2015. One of the reforms was a change in the wording for Minnesota to recognize permits from other states. The previous wording required that the other State's law be "substantially similar" to Minnesota's permit law. The Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety is required to publish a list, and if the State that a person has a permit for is not on the list, then the permit is considered valid. Here is the old law, that ceased effect on...

Nevada has added ten states whose permits it will recognize, dropped Michigan and New Mexico, and will recognize both permits from Idaho and North Dakota instead of only their enhanced permit. Here is the list of states that Nevada will recognize, as of June 18th, 2015. From Nevada Division of Public Safety(pdf): Pursuant to SB 175 and AB 488 of the 2015 Legislative Session, the State of Nevada will recognize concealed weapons permits from the following states: Alaska Arizona Arkansas Delaware Idaho (both types of permits) Illinois Kansas Kentucky Louisiana Minnesota Montana Nebraska North Carolina North Dakota (both types...

Oregon is one of the states that has stubbornly refused to grant reciprocity to concealed carry permits from other states, even though many of those states recognize the Oregon permit when Oregon residents visit them. The map above, from usacarry.com, show that Oregon does not recognize a single other state. The map below shows that 20 states allow Oregon residents to carry in their state, with an Oregon permit. Vermont does not require a permit. The blue states recognize the Oregon permit. Michigan only recognizes Oregon permits for Oregon residents. Now that Michael Bloomberg's organizations have purchased a repressive...

Oregon is one of the most restrictive states for carry permit reciprocity. It does not recognize any permits from any other state. There are eight other states that are as restrictive. They are Hawaii, California, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. Most are the last hangers on to the old "may issue" permit system, where the right to carry is not just subject to fees, classes, background checks, and waiting for government permission, but is subject to some, often unelected, bureaucrat's feelings and attitudes toward you and your lifestyle. Rhode Island is the...

CARSON CITY — State lawmakers took up the first of three 2nd Amendment bills Wednesday, with the Assembly Judiciary Committee hearing testimony on a bill that would require Nevada to recognize concealed carry weapon permits issued to individuals from all other states. Assembly Bill 139, sponsored by Assemblyman Jim Wheeler, R-Gardnerville, would establish the universal reciprocity requirement. Permit-holders from other states would have to follow Nevada’s concealed carry rules, and Nevadans would still be required to obtain a Nevada concealed carry permit. The committee took no immediate action on the bill. Nevada now has reciprocity with only 14 other states...

H.B. 234 is an 18 page reform of Ohio's firearms laws, though most of the 18 pages are existing law. The reforms are simple commonsense reforms of provisions of state law that were unduly restrictive and made no sense. This was reflected by the large vote margins for passage of the bill; 24-6 in the Senate, 69-16 in the House. The bill now goes to Governor Kasich, who has not indicated if he will sign it or not. Disarmists are already lobbying the Governor in an attempt to have him veto the bill. Governor Kasich has 10 days from...

My four small children and I were headed to my parents’ house in Illinois when my daughter uttered those five words every parent on a road trip hates to hear, “I have to go POTTY!” When we returned to the van I noticed that the man had opened the side door of his van that was nearest mine and was standing in front of it. In order to put my baby in his car seat I would have to turn my back on the man standing 2 feet from me in the creepy van. Had I been in my home...

John Filippidis, silver-haired family man, business owner, employer and taxpayer, is also licensed to carry a concealed firearm. He’d rather he didn’t feel the need, “but things aren’t like they used to be. The break-ins, the burglaries, all the crime. And I carry cash a lot of the time. I’m constantly going to the bank. “I wanted to be able to defend my family, my household and the ground I’m standing on. But I’m not looking for any trouble.” Filippidis keeps his gun — a palm-sized Kel-Tec .38 semiautomatic, barely larger than a smartphone in a protective case — in...

UPDATE: Arkansas Senator Jason Rapert has advised Arkansas Carry that ASP Director Col. Stan Witt has issued a correction letter to Idaho. Here is a copy of the letter: http://www.isp.idaho.gov/BCI/documents/CWLRECIPROCITY/Arkansas%202013.pdf It was brought to our attention that the Arkansas State Police is side-stepping Act 1089 by Sen. Jason Rapert. This bill basically obligated Arkansas to recognize all concealed handgun permits in the country. The Arkansas State Police claim that a state that issues a "weapons" license is not the same as a "concealed handgun" license and therefore will not recognize any state that has "weapon" instead of "handgun" on their...

Alabama recently recognized firearm carry permits from all other states. This is a continuing trend among states, where it is common for states to recognize each others permits. The situation is reminiscent of the early days of drivers licenses, where research was required to determine what states recognized drivers licenses issued by other states. There are enough votes in the Congress to pass national reciprocity, to insure that people who are allowed to carry guns in one state will be able to exercise their rights in all U.S. territories. National reciprocity has not come to a vote, because the...

>An interesting admission in the Washington Post:Moments after clearing the first procedural hurdle, Democrats and gun control groups began readying themselves for a potentially more difficult fight: Weeks of Senate debate defending their carefully crafted legislation against possible amendments — particularly a plan to allow gun owners to carry concealed weapons from one state to another — that would kill the bill’s underlying goal. If the underlying goal of the "universal background check" bill is not to "keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentaly ill", both of which are prevented from obtaining concealed carry permits, one...

Friday afternoon Kansas Governor Sam Brownback signed 11 bills into law, including SB 21 which amends several firearms-related statutes including authorizing official recognition of any valid concealed carry permit from another state for individuals traveling through or visiting Kansas. Thanks to Gov Brownback, Kansas now has the best Concealed Carry reciprocity in the nation!

(CBS News) The U.S. Senate has yet to act on a so-called "concealed carry reciprocity" bill, which would let people with permits to carry a concealed weapon in their home state carry that weapon into virtually any other state. A similar bill has passed the House. Almost every state now allows the carrying of concealed weapons under certain conditions. Colorado, for example, has issued nearly 130,000 concealed handgun permits since 2003. Robert Paulson is getting his permit to carry a concealed gun and says other seniors should do the same. "Yeah, why not?" he asked. Aimee Galvin is thinking about...

Americans choose to take to the roads for va- cations and to visit friends and family on Memorial Day. Often, they’ll bring their firearms with them for sport or personal protection, and it’s perfectly legal under federal law. This gets under the skin of a handful of anti-gun jurisdictions that have grown so out of control that they’ll jail an active-duty Afghanistan veteran who’s following the letter of the law. A growing, bipartisan movement in Congress is looking to stop the harassment. Rep. H. Morgan Griffith, Virginia Republican, has sponsored legislation that would amend current law to make it clear...

A bill that would allow citizens to carry concealed handguns over state lines is catching harsh criticism from opponents in the wake of the Trayvon Martin shooting. The bill is the brainchild of Senators David Witter and John Thune, Republicans of Louisiana and South Dakota, respectively. They call it the "Respecting States' Rights and Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act," and what the bill does is pretty much all right there in the name. Basically, if you're allowed to carry a concealed gun in your home state, then that alone should be enough to let you carry a weapon in just about...
