RICHMOND (KPIX) — A father followed his 9-year-old autistic son onto the school bus Friday morning and attacked his son’s bully, said Richmond Police Lt. Mark Gagan. Burnis Hurd, 44, is charged with 273 D, which is child abuse and corporal injury to a child. He is in jail on $50,000 bond. After they boarded the bus, the son pointed out an 11 year old boy who had been bullying the 9-year old, Gagan said.

A little boy is in trouble for a picture he drew as part of a school assignment. Second grader Kody Smith was assigned to go outside, look at the clouds, and then use his imagination to draw what he saw. EAST GREENWICH, R.I. —Citing concerns about the “exclusive nature” of the annual honors night at Archie R. Cole Middle School, school officials have decided to scrap the tradition. Instead, students who would normally be recognized at the annual spring tradition will be honored during team-based recognition ceremonies and graduation. The notice was sent to parents over the weekend in an e-mail signed by School Principal Alexis Meyer and Assistant Principal Dan Seger. “Members of the school community have long expressed concerns related to the exclusive nature of Honors Night,” the email stated.

Two schoolkids were arrested Tuesday for putting rat poison in their teacher’s water bottle in a Brooklyn classroom, sources said. The boys, 9 and 12, put the substance into the fifth-grade teacher’s bottle at PS 315 in Flatbush on Monday, according to law-enforcement sources.

An Ohio teachers union is suing the school district in a Cleveland suburb for the names, addresses and phone numbers of hundreds of teachers who crossed the picket line during an acrimonious strike last year. House Republicans are proposing to let some schools opt out of healthier school lunch and breakfast programs if they are losing money. A GOP spending bill for agriculture and food programs released Monday would allow schools to apply for waivers if they have a net loss on school food programs for a six month period.

Barry Goldwater High School’s 2014 error-filled yearbook is getting some laughs from students but mostly criticism from those who think it wasn’t worth the $60 to $70 price. KENOSHA COUNTY , Wis.,A Wisconsin father has taken out a restraining order against a 5-year-old kindergartener who has allegedly been bullying his daughter at Prairie Lane Elementary School in Kenosha County. Brian Metzger took out the order after his daughter's classmate allegedly threatened her and physically attacked her. New school food requirements are going into effect next year, attempting to make school meals healthier. The changes will affect four major areas. First, The Smart Snacks program requires that all sides must be served with something healthy. Second, the school will be required to meet the first target of reducing sodium.
