There’s a simple rule in running for Congress in Miami: Don’t campaign with someone who praised Fidel Castro and fought sanctions against Venezuela’s dictatorial regime. But Donna Shalala didn’t figure it out until it was too late. In a district filled with Castro-hating Cuban-Americans and Venezuelan exiles, Shalala’s campaign committed an egregious gaffe — and set off a round of Democratic finger-pointing — by posting an announcement that she would hold a campaign event Wednesday with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and her fellow Californian, Rep. Barbara Lee.

Wilson voters made a statement Monday afternoon when they banded together to change their political party affiliation. **SNIP** Six voters headed to the Wilson County Board of Elections Monday to do just that, including 88-year-old Joyce Wells. “I’ve never felt like this before,” said Wells, who has been a registered Democrat for 70 years. “I’m going to independent.” Wells said the decision to switch followed Senate confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexual misconduct. “I can tell you how simple it is for me,” Wells said. “I believe in the Constitution and innocent until...

When I was in graduate school, I learned a lot about the left. One lesson was that while most liberals and conservatives abide by society's rules of order and decency, most leftists do not feel bound to live by these same rules. I watched the way leftist Vietnam War protesters treated fellow students and professors. I watched left-wing students make "nonnegotiable demands" of college administrations. I saw the Black Panthers engage in violence – including torture and murder – and be financially rewarded by leftists. Today, we watch leftist mobs scream profanities at professors and deans, and shut down conservative...

Chinese security forces continue to surround the Kirti Tibetan monastery in Sichuan after local residents tried to stop them from arresting the 2,500 monks holed up inside. The monks could soon face food shortages because they depend on offerings from locals, the Voice of America reports. A U.S. State Department spokesman said the U.S. is concerned about China's actions in Aba, which it called it inconsistent with the internationally recognized principles...

Warning: This story contains graphic content Paul Welch came to the downtown protest Aug. 4 to let his political leanings be known. With pride he clutched his U.S. flag as he moved among the crowd of like-thinking demonstrators. Soon a group of black-clad anti-fascist protesters, also known as antifa, demanded he lose the flag, calling it a fascist symbol. Welch refused, and a tug-of-war ensued. It ended with Welch taking a club to the back of the head, lying on the ground in a pool of his own blood. Only Welch was not a Proud Boy, a Patriot Prayer supporter...
