This is a quick look at the 5 main candidates currently running for the United States Senate against Patty Murray. I say main candidates because, Wayne Glover a trucker , and Rod Rieger have created websites but neither have gained any traction. This is the race that will be at the top of the ticket in Washington and so far the GOP has struggled to come up with a credible candidate. I am currently undecided in this race, but wanted to lay out the negatives and positives of each candidate as I saw them. I will do a post in...

Charlie Crist is getting killed by a hug. The Republican governor is being bombarded with images of him hugging President Barack Obama when he was in Florida to pitch his $787 billion economic stimulus plan earlier this year. In just the past two weeks, that hug has appeared in an ad by the conservative Club for Growth attacking Crist, in a Democratic National Committee e-mail highlighting his recent assertion that he actually didn’t “endorse” the stimulus bill and in headlines all over Florida, including one Wednesday that read: “Charlie Crist needs to figure out a way to undo a hug.”
-
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist may be distancing himself from his support for the stimulus bill Congress enacted earlier this year, but the White House isn't playing along. A day after Crist denied having endorsed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters the governor's February appearance with President Obama in Fort Myers, Fla., left little doubt about his views on the law. "I think his words at that event speak for themselves," Gibbs said. "I think he was very supportive of the legislation and supportive of the benefits that it would have and has...

During the process of the impeachment of Bill Clinton, Lindsey Graham was the only Republican joining all the Hyde Committee Democrats in voting "nay" on Article Two, perjury in the Jones deposition. He killed it, a double-cross of Henry Hyde without doubt. This article had the best evidence against Clinton of any of the three articles of impeachment. As I remember, the judge in the Jones case had said that Clinton committed perjury. The extreme egotist, Lindsey Graham seems willing to do anything to attract special attention. He is nothing if not a shameless self promoter as the record shows....

Leading liberals are already thinking the unthinkable: Challenging President Obama for the Democratic nomination in 2012. According to a report on the left-leaning Huffington Post website, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann and Eugene Robinson, an African-American national columnist for The Washington Post, discussed just such a possibility Thursday night. Robinson said Obama needs to be careful how he handles the health care reform issue and the continuing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq

Joe Hallett commentary: Primary for U.S. Senate has Democrats walking on eggshells Sunday, July 19, 2009 3:40 AM By Joe Hallett Notice to politicians: We will hunt you down. Duck us, and we will find you. Then, we will ambush you. I delivered that warning, albeit more diplomatically, to Geri Prado on June 10, the day her candidate for the U.S. Senate changed his position on gay marriage. Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher, who is locked in a bitter battle against Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner for the 2010 Democratic nomination for Senate, simply issued a statement that day confirming that...

A congressman from the Philadelphia suburbs will challenge U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter in the Democratic Senate primary. In an interview with The Wayne Independent Wednesday morning, U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak, D-Pa.,confirmed his intention to run against Specter, a long-time Republican who switched to the Democratic party earlier this year. “I am going to get into the race against Arlen Specter ... for senator,” said Sestak in his first media interview as part of a three-week tour through all of the Commonwealth’s 67 counties. Wayne County was his first stop where he met with local Democrats prior to his interview with...

The fundraiser set to be hosted Wednesday by elected officials and business leaders at the posh Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables sounds like countless other receptions benefiting Florida's political establishment. But the invitation topped with bold-faced names is for Marco Rubio, the upstart candidate for the U.S. Senate daring to challenge the popular Gov. Charlie Crist for the GOP nomination. Rubio has been mostly raising money over the Internet. Crist has been attending swanky events almost nightly this month. Their lopsided fundraising battle and poll ratings suggest Rubio's campaign will not end well, but the former Miami lawmaker posted a...

I mentioned this a while back, but it's now official: a state lawmaker in Pennsylvaia is trying to open up the state's primaries. According to the Pocono Record: HB 16472 was introduced June 11. The next day, it was referred to the state government committee which may consider the bill through a hearing, or vote on it. If it passes the committee, it will go to a full house vote.Such an approach could feasibly help Specter (D-Pa.) win the Democratic primary, too, as he prepares for a challenge from the left from Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.). The timing could be...

The ultra-conservative wing of the GOP wants to make Florida’s Republican Senate primary a test case of its power. The race pits Gov. Charlie Crist, a moderate who had the audacity to endorse President Obama’s stimulus plan, against hard-core conservative Marco Rubio, a former speaker of the state House. Crist also just signed a new state budget raising the cigarette tax and various fees by $2 billion, an act that further fueled conservative anger. Even worse, the moderate governor has drawn strong support from current Republican senators. He has been endorsed by Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader in the Senate,...

On the surface, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist appears to be the rising star in the Sunshine State. Mr. Crist won a landslide election, maintains high approval ratings and was considered as a potential vice presidential choice by Republican nominee John McCain. In addition, he was even ranked the most "fiscally conservative governor in the country" by the Cato Institute - beating out even South Carolina's budget hawk Gov. Mark Sanford. Many Florida conservatives, however, have a very different hero - Marco Rubio.

Team, I heard before that Moran was the weakest but now I am hearing from well-placed sources that we should vote for Terry McAuliffe. Yes, he can raise money BUT he has extremely high negatives and many, many skeletons in the closet. So, please, hold your nose and vote for Terry in the RAT primary.

On Tuesday June 9th, 2009, the Democratic Primary will be held in the great Commonwealth of Virginia. The Democratic candidates vying for their party’s nomination to run for governor are former Democratic National Committee chairman and Clinton insider Terry McAuliffe, State Delegate Brian Moran and State Senator Creigh (pronounced CREE) Deeds. Because of the significant gun rights issues raised by these particular candidates, OpenCarry.org has taken the unprecedented step of endorsing Delegate Moran in the Democratic primary and encouraging Republicans, Libertarians and Independents to cross the aisle and vote in the Democratic primary.

According to some authors, in 1940 when Prime Minister Winston Churchill learned through radio intercepts that the Germans planned to bomb the city of Coventry, Churchill is believed to have disallowed advanced scrambling British fighters because it might tip off the Germans that the Allies had broken their codes. Churchill's alleged behavior in this instance was strategic - more concerned about winning the war than winning any immediate battle. . . . Ask yourself: How would Churchill vote on Tuesday?

Virginia's Democratic Primary is five days away, and the three-way race for the party's governor nomination is tight. Gun rights advocates don't typically engage in democratic politics. However, Northern Virginia-based "opencarry.org" is encouraging its members, republican, independent, and libertarian, to go vote in the Democratic primary and cast their vote for Brian Moran. During his time in the House of Delegates, the website says Moran had what they call a pro-gun record. That includes votes to allow concealed handguns in school parking lots and to preempt all local gun control laws. They say that "pretty good" record is far superior...

The state GOP may be officially neutral in the Republican U.S. senate primary, but as an e-mailer points out to Buzz, you would be hard-pressed to know that Charlie Crist even faces a challenger if you went to the RPOF site. It contains plenty of news about Crist's campaign and endorsements but nada that we can see about Marco Rubio. http://www.rpof.org/index.php

Did you know Virginia is an open primary state? Yup, it is - you can vote in anybody's primary you want. That means that since the Republican party is handling their state office party candidate nominations this year by convention, every registered voter in Virginia might as well crash the Democratic party primary on June 9th! Right now polls generally show former National Democratic Party Chairman Terry McAuliffe, who happens to live in Fairfax County, in the lead, followed by Alexandria's Brian Moran, and then Bath County's Creigh Deeds. But here's the deal - these polls are highly unreliable and...

Democrat Joe Torsella is exiting the race for Pennsylvania’s Senate seat, stepping aside for newly Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter (Pa.) and clearing the primary field -- for the moment, at least. Torsella, a former deputy mayor of Philadelphia and head of the National Constitution Center, was the only major Democrat in the race until Specter switched parties last month. He raised a very respectable $600,000 in the first quarter and vowed to stay in the race after Specter switched. On Thursday, though, Torsella said in a video that he will no longer be a candidate. “Now that the dust has...

We've been preparing for weeks to announce the "Big News"... IT'S HERE!!! Chris Simcox, founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps has just announced his resignation from the presidency of MCDC in order to launch a full-scale campaign for U.S. Senate against John McCain!

Social conservatives tolerated John McCain as the party's nominee, but never trusted him, and he now appears to be facing a serious primary from the right in Arizona next year. Chris Simcox, the founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps and a prominent figure in the anti-immigration movement, is announcing today he's resigned from the group to run in the 2010 Senate primary. From a forthcoming release: "John McCain has failed miserably in his duty to secure this nation's borders and protect the people of Arizona from the escalating violence and lawlessness," Simcox said. "He has fought real efforts over...

It is said, philosophically, that there are no new thoughts, no unexplored concepts – just new ways of expressing what has been previously thought. That is the historical equivalent of saying that History repeats itself only in different detail. You see, for nearly as long as there has been representative government, people have gravitated toward factions or parties. We know England once had Whigs and Tories and is now dominated by a Labour Party and a Conservative Party. For the pre-Renaissance Florentines, there were the Guelfs and the Ghibellines. In time, the Ghibellines were driven out and the city was...

For all you loony couch conservatives, the General Election is not the time to sit home and cry over not having a choice. If you sit home and the Rats gain the majority in either House, blame yourself. I know I will. A Republican Rino is still better than a Rat. It gives the Republicans majority status. With that status, we control committees and keep the Rats from starting multitudes of witch-hunting investigations and impeachment procedures. Nothing may get done with or without the RINOs, but its better than having the Rats in control. If you don't like the RINOs...

Petition challenges shrink field in race for Emanuel's seat by Alex Keefe Feb 05, 2009 Two candidates hung on to their spots on the 5th Congressional District primary ballot on Thursday, but one was bumped off when Cook County election officials issued rulings on several ballot petition challenges in the race to fill Rahm Emanuel’s vacant seat. A county election board found that Democrat Roger Thompson III has only 494 valid petition signatures—far short of the 927 he needed to run in the March 3 primary. “It’s not easy for anybody to break into politics,” said Thompson, who struggled through...

Why would the Republican party weed out it's primary candidates in states that are going to vote Democrat? Iowa (Obama +15%) New Hampshire (Obama +10%) Shouldn't the Republican candidates be competing in Florida, Ohio, Indiana...as the primaries that will show us who should be the candidate?

In just a few weeks, the members of the Republican National Committee will meet to elect a new chairman. What's significant about this election is that unlike the "selections" of the past where the president has dictated his choice for RNC Chairman, this time a real election is taking place. The importance of this election cannot be overstated. The Republican Party now must assume the role of the "loyal opposition." The key is that it must truly be the opposition to the Democrats' liberal agenda of higher taxes, bigger government, and less freedom. If the Republican Party does not distinguish...

Proposal For 2012 GOP Primary Puts Big States LastBy WILLIAM MARCH The Tampa Tribune Published: April 5, 2008 TAMPA - Even as Florida Democrats struggle over the results of the state's early presidential primary, Florida Republicans may be fighting for the right to vote early again in 2012. This week, a key national Republican Party committee gave preliminary approval to a 2012 primary schedule that puts big states including Florida at the back of the pack, with later primaries. The committee's approval of what's called the "Ohio plan" for primary dates is tentative, only the first step in a long...

Essentially, she affirms being excited about the prospect and says that if the door is open, she will go through it. I say conservative supporters of Sarah Real Deal Palin help push that 2012 door open for her by establishing websites, talking with friends, posting articles, writing letters to the editor, and such. Video here. Make no mistake, the day will come when the North Star will be asked, "Sarah, are you running for President in 2012?", and the answer will come in two iconic words: "You betcha!"

Should we reconsider the primaries? I live in NH and did not vote for McCain. Ironically, I did not even go to see him during the primaries because I didn’t see him as a viable candidate. The independents crossed over to vote for McCain and I was upset that my candidate did not win that first NH primary. However, as the process continues, I thought that perhaps McCain had a better chance against Obama; a conservative like Romney might not have done well at all. I had hoped that more independents would support McCain, but now I am not so...

Who was (were) the idiot(s) that suggested crossing over and voting for Obama during the Demo primaries? Who actually listened to that advice? What have we now? President Obama. Who is the moron that said Obama is more easily beatable than Hillary in a general election? Thanks to those morons who crossed over and voted for Obama. Thanks to Rush Limbaugh and other morons who advised the sheeple to cross over and vote for Obama during the Demo. primaries!

Sarah Palin, smiling radiantly and standing several feet above the crowd in Raleigh, NC, said “You want me to sign that?” An apt question—I was surrounded by excited Palin supporters, all yelling frantically and holding out pink t-shirts and Palin photos for her autograph. The lady next to me shouted “For my daughter, Sarah!” In my pocket I had found a piece of sloppily folded script left over from the phone campaigning I had done just prior to the event. I held it toward Governor Palin, upward and through the barrier of angry looking Secret Service men. “Yes!” was my...
