  • Florida GOP Rep. Posey abruptly announces retirement

TALLAHASSEE, Florida — Rep. Bill Posey (R-Fla.) abruptly announced on Friday that he will not seek reelection, after initially planning to run for another term. Posey’s announcement — if made earlier — could have easily attracted a spirited Republican primary, with politicians from the state’s Space Coast region already eyeing the seat once Posey retired. Florida’s 8th congressional district is a solid Republican seat. Instead the 76-year-old incumbent’s announcement came shortly after qualifying officially ended and after his hand-picked replacement — former state Senate President Mike Haridopolos — had already quietly jumped into the race. In a statement posted online,...

  • Ft. Pierce woman claims wind blew cocaine into her purse

Authorities say a Florida woman is blaming a windy day for the cocaine that police found in her purse. WPLG reported Kennecia Posey was one of two passengers in a car stopped by Fort Pierce police in late March. Police say an officer smelled marijuana and that, after searching the car, cocaine and marijuana in separate bags were found inside a purse Posey had on her lap. Authorities say they questioned Posey about the drugs. According to the police report, Posey responded: “It’s a windy day. It must have flown through the window and into my purse.”
  • Posey still deciding if he will reintroduce presidential birth certificate bill

U.S. Rep. Bill Posey, R-Rockledge, has yet to decide if he will reintroduce legislation that would require presidential candidates to present a birth certificate — or other such documents — to satisfy the constitutional requirement that candidates are citizens. "He's still evaluating the bill," said his spokesman, George Cecela, on Monday. Supporters of the bill, which includes a faction referred to as "birthers" for their contention that President Obama was not born in the United States, have been urging people via blogs to email Posey to reintroduce the bill. First introduced in March 2009, the bill received little support even...
  • Hawaii Gov. gives up search for Obama Birth Certificate

Abercrombie finds only notation in a log book. From Eric Dondero: Republican Congressman Bill Posey of Florida introduced legislation last year to require future presidential candidates provide proof of United States citizenship for the Presidency. From LR, July 2, 2009, “3 libertarian-leaning Congressman sign on to Posey bill demanding Birth Certificate for Presidential eligibility” July 9, 2009: While it may be too late to revoke Barack Hussein Obama’s hold on the Presidency, it is not too late to make the issue of his birth outside of the United States, most likely in Kenya, an issue for Campaign 2012. With that...

Internal White House documents reveal that 51% of employers may have to relinquish their current health care coverage by 2013 due to ObamaCare. That numbers soars to 66% for small-business employers. The documents — product of a joint project of the Labor Department, the Health and Human Services Department and the IRS — examine the effects new regulations would have on existing, or “grandfathered,” employer-based health care plans. Draft copies of the documents were reportedly leaked to House Republicans earlier in the week. Rep. Bill Posey, R-Fla., posted them on his Web site Friday afternoon. (View the full report here.)...
  • Congressman: Obama’s NASA Shakeup Breaks The Law

WASHINGTON -- One Central Florida congressman has accused President Barack Obama of breaking the law for trying to cancel contract bids for the next generation of spaceflight. According to published reports, the administration notified contractors Friday it is cancelling contracts for the Constellation and Ares programs, because the president’s latest budget cuts funding for those programs. But U.S. Rep. Bill Posey said the administration can’t do that. Posey, whose district includes parts of Brevard, Osceola, Polk and Indian River counties, said cancelling contract bids is in violation of a provision Congress put in the Appropriations Bill last year. According to...

Activists charge that Obama has spent millions to silence them in court. Not exactly, say the government’s lawyers. ### Is President Barack Obama spending millions of dollars to hide the truth about his citizenship? During Obama's 2008 run for the White House, his campaign and a host of other credible sources repeatedly debunked the conspiracy theory that Obama was born in Kenya, not Hawaii, and was thus ineligible to serve as president. But this failed to quell the "birther" movement, whose acolytes have filed more than 60 civil lawsuits challenging the president's citizenship. None of these suits have gone anywhere...

So how are we supposed to know that a candidate for U.S. president meets all the qualifications laid out by the Constitution? Do we leave it in the hands of the verbal free-for-all that passes as a debate over whether President Barack Obama actually was born in America? Or will Congress create an official path for presidential and congressional candidates to prove their qualifications? For all the sneering denunciations heaped on the "birthers" -- those who feel compelled to prove that Obama wasn't born in the United States and thus is not eligible to be president -- they have not...

A popular Tennessee Congresswoman, Marsha Blackburn (R), has become the first woman and the first Tennessean to add her name to the list of co-sponsors for Representative Bill Posey’s (R-FL) proposed amendment (HR-1503). The bill amends the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, and would require candidates for President of the United States to provide among other things, “…a copy of the candidate’s birth certificate…”. The bill’s list of co-sponsors continues to grow with Blackburn as its latest member. The seven Representatives already supporting the bill are: - Rep. Bill Posey (R-Florida) (sponsor) Rep. John R. Carter (R-Texas) Rep. John...

A group of House Republican lawmakers want all future aspirants for the White House to produce a U.S. birth certificate to prove they meet constitutional requirements to be president. The legislators this week waded into a controversy that has roiled the conservative talk-show and blogging fringe since the hottest days of the presidential election campaign -- when the validity of the citizenship of both Barack Obama and John McCain were questioned. McCain was born to U.S. citizens on a military installation in the Panama Canal Zone. Obama was born in Hawaii, the son of an American mother and a Kenyan...

GOP's Coburn likes plan to require birth certificates. BY BOB UNRUH Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., says it's the responsibility of the states to make sure political candidates are eligible for the offices they seek, but he's in favor of both state and federal demands that future presidential candidates have a formal procedure to document their qualifications. The relatively strong statement from Coburn on the issue of the eligibility of a president came in a recent letter to a constituent who contacted WND. WND has reported on a federal plan in the U.S. House by Rep. Bill Posey, R-Fla., that would...

A Florida congressman who has proposed requiring candidates for the presidency to document their eligibility for the office under the "natural born citizen" requirements of the U.S. Constitution says it's not intended to affect President Obama's current term, but he wants to avoid similar issues in the future. "The last election is over," Rep. Bill Posey, R-Fla., said on a radio interview. "I don't think that outcome is going to change. Personally, I think it's futile to go there, but looking toward the future I think it would be reckless if we do not do everything we could to eliminate...

Support in the U.S. House for a proposal that would require presidential candidates to provide documentation of how they meet the U.S. Constitution's requirement that the person who occupies the Oval Office be a "natural born citizen" suddenly has quadrupled. There now are four cosponsors to H.R. 1503 from freshman Rep. Bill Posey, R-Fla., an amendment to the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971.

In only a few short months, U.S. Rep. Bill Posey, R-Rockledge, has introduced three bills. The first was a bipartisan bill to make the $1,000-per-child tax credit permanent and index it for inflation. The second was another bipartisan bill that grants a temporary exemption to certain products sold by thrift stores and charities. When Congress sought to ban the sale of lead toys last year, it unintentionally almost collapsed thrift stores with its burdensome requirements. Despite his competent, bipartisan record, Congressman Posey is being vilified for a bill that simply requires all future presidential candidates to file a copy of...

Florida Rep. Bill Posey, writing on his blog last week, explained his bill to require presidential candidates to show birth certificates, which appears to be driven by conspiracy theories about Obama's eligibility. In a blog entry, he wrote: There’s nothing anyone can do about changing past elections… the President won. All the lawsuits in the world are not going to change that. But if what some folks are worried about – that presidential candidates don’t have to submit to the same documentation that average folks have to submit to – well, then we can change that for the next election.
