Growing up in an unhappy and unsupportive home, I took pride, at least, in our family history. My great-great grandfather, a Southern boy, defied community and family pressures and supported Lincoln. He went to Illinois and joined the Union Army. We were Republican ever since and it was the one inspiration I took from my heritage. In a brand new Zogby Analytics poll of likely GOP caucus and primary voters, Donald Trump receives 45% of the total vote, with Ted Cruz in a distant second place at 13%, followed by Marco Rubio with 8%, Jeb Bush 6%, Ben Carson 4%, Carly Fiorina and John Kasich tied with 3%, and Rand Paul, Chris Christie, Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum all tied with 2%. I was told today that Ted Cruz's conservatism was moot because he is not eligible to run for president. I have also been told by others that true conservatives cannot win a general election. If that is true, then there is no winning, for even if you prevail by sacrificing values and principles to enlarge your "tent", you have won nothing. With respect it was not inapropriate. It was reporting what a high ranking republican operative called people supporting Trump. It was vulgar, but was reported.
