You may have had this happen to you already, but this scam is new to me. My wife just got a call. It was a prerecorded machine advising her that her Amazon account was being charged for $700.00 and this call was to confirm. Press 1 now if this is incorrect. She had the presence of mind to immediately hang up.

Two Los Angeles County women believed to be part of a national fraud ring were arrested on suspicion of posing as employees from the Internal Revenue Service in a phone scam that may have bilked several victims out of $900,000, the Fontana Police Department said Friday. A Fontana man received a call on Sept. 4, 2019, from a person who identified themself as an IRS employee and threatened to arrest the victim if he didn’t pay the caller $2,200 in Target gift cards, police said. The victim complied and provided the gift cards to the caller. He later reported the...

  • New phone scam targets pro-lifers with fake donation request

Vermont Right to Life Committee Treasurer Sharon Toborg emailed a warning to pro-life Vermonters this week asking them to be careful of who they trust on the telephone. It seems that someone has been calling pro-lifers in the state claiming to be from “the Pro-Life Committee” or the “National Pro-Life Committee”. The caller is asking for donations by telephone to help the pro-life movement, however, it is definitely not a call from the Vermont Right to Life Committee (VRLC) or the National Right to Life Committee, which the VRLC is affiliated with. Toborg says VRLC has not solicited funds by...
  • Interesting phone call I just received

I just received an interesting phone call from "Credit Card Services". It wasn't the call that was interesting it was that they used my OWN phone number as the identifying number on the Caller ID. I'm not sure where this falls in the "legality' scale but from my own point of view if this company can use my own phone number on the caller ID to identify themselves then they or anyone else can use it also to conduct business that is truly illegal. Try explaining to the authorities that you didn't order that kilogram of 'drugs' when your home...
  • Why Would the IRS be calling from Wash D.C.?

    05/31/2014 4:12:41 PM PDT · by Vinylly · 66 replies
We have gotten two recorded messages from Wash. D.C. (Fri. Sat.). They say they are the IRS, not to ignore their message and call this number-----------. The phone number they called from was (202)241-2158. We're afraid to call the number because it might be some kind of scam. We've always paid our taxes in a timely manner with an accountant. Seems like if we were to be audited we would get a letter from our local Seattle IRS office. Has anyone else received such phone calls?

We stopped answering unknown phone calls a long long time ago. But I was outside and the wife, expecting a call, did answer the call. Trying to make a long story short..... It was from a family member whom we care enough about that we would do almost anything for. The wife was convinced it was from this family member and when she told me she convinced me too. A few phone calls later involving public attorneys and lawyers we were told to send a very large sum of CASH using UPS. And then,,,, FINALLY,,, I realized this was a...

This scam is being reported by Tech Crunch and we wanted to make our readers aware of it.The scam, simplified: They call you, but immediately hang up. You see a missed call. You call back. They charge you for the call, and for each minute they can keep you on the line.According to the BBB, this so-called “One Ring” scam is on the rise.Like many a ruse, this one relies on hitting many, many potential targets at once. The scammer sets up a computer to call thousands of numbers per hour — because for every 99 people who follow their gut...

A scam that repeats itself in modified forms every few years is once again spreading throughout the United Sates. Don’t be a victim! Criminals target people simply by calling them. Intended victims receive a call on their phones from area code 473 which rings once and then disconnects, thereby arousing the call-recipient’s natural curiosity – “who just called me and from where?” Sometimes the caller actually allows the phone to ring long enough for the victim to answer -- after which the caller (or the caller’s robocaller system) makes groaning sounds or otherwise indicates that he or she is in...

If you receive a call on your cellphone preceded by just one or two rings, chances are it’s part of the new One Ring phone scam spreading across the U.S. faster than a summer wildfire. Here’s how it works: International scammers have programmed computers to blast out millions of calls to cellphone numbers, ring once or twice, then disconnect. The objective is to make you curious enough to dial that number back. The “gotcha” happens when you return the call. You’ll be charged $19.95 for the international call fee itself and $9 per minute thereafter. “Oftentimes consumers say they hear...
