It’s always a good day when gun sense prevails in Olympia. Thanks to the passage of House Bill 1501, police and victims will now get notification if a felon, fugitive or someone who’s the subject of a court protection order illegally attempts to buy a firearm. There’s little doubt this upgraded notification system will save lives. Victims of domestic violence in particular can breathe a sigh of relief.

As the school year comes to an end in Los Angeles, many students look forward to hanging out at the beach, going on family trips, or attending vacation Bible school. But since teens, and preteens, who want to abolish police need summer activities too, the Los Angeles chapter of Black Lives Matter is organizing a Youth Activist Camp. The week-long cultivation, which runs June 12 through June 16, will be “free for all Black youth, ages 10-18.”

A routine police check in Minnesota resulted in the arrest of two Muslim men on charges they were driving around with an arsenal of weapons including bomb-making devices. Abdullah N. Alrifahe, 27, and Majid N. Alrifahe, 26, both of Minneapolis, were arrested May 11 after police had reason to search their car and found a hand grenade, handgun, several assault rifles and magazines and a large quantity of ammunition, according to the police report. In one of the most recent incidents, police in Tennessee charged a woman with felony reckless endangerment on Thursday for allegedly trying to run Republican Congressman David Kustoff off the road after a town hall. President Trump has directed Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke to review recent land withdrawals under the 1906 Antiquities Act, to determine whether some should be reversed or reduced in size. The review is long overdue.
