Are vegetarians humorless? It’s the question being asked this week after a Red Robin television ad offended herbivores by touting its 24 types of burgers and then noting, with an implied eye roll and mock whisper, “We even have a Gardenburger—just in case your teenage daughter is going through a phase.” More on Shine: Mountain Dew Under Fire For 'Most Racist Commercial in History' The commercial, part of a new campaign ad series, aired for about a week before being rotated out, as was planned from the start. But it prompted outrage among activists and on social media outlets, with...

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Harry Hubbard Johnson, who recently left the employ of trainer Steve Asmussen at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., committed suicide Friday in Kentucky. Johnson was Asmussen’s shed foreman, a position that ranks a level below assistant trainer. He died two days following his 27th birthday. “He was a kind soul and a pleasure to be around,” Asmussen said Saturday. “I feel horrible for the whole Johnson family.” Johnson’s death comes a little more than a week after People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) released controversial video and audio footage recorded undercover in the...

The woman took off her jacket during the attack and used it to try to shield herself against the coyote. She then ran to a neighbor's home for refuge. The coyote ran into a backyard, where it was shot and killed by an Orangetown police officer, authorities say. The woman told police the coyote appeared to be more focused on attacking her, not her dog

A funny thing happened on the way to Facebook. A month ago I posted on my Facebook page Save the West a photo by the US Anti-Fur Society of a white fox about to be anally electrocuted for his fur. The fox had overgrown nails for lack of walking on solid grounds, having lived his life on wire cages. Animals farm-raised for fur are killed by gassing, neck-breaking, injection with poisons and anal electrocution so as not to damage their pelts. Wild fur-bearing animals are killed by clubbing and trapping, suffering agonising deaths. An otherwise sensible visitor of Save the...

**SNIP** While collecting and eating roadkill is legal in some states, Texas banned “engaging in the collection of any animal life on public roads or the right-of-way of public roads” in 2007, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife. Nathan argued on his Facebook page that in one year, in one Texas county, Department of Transportation employees removed more than 1,400 deer from the roadways, in an operation that was costly to taxpayers. Plus, “That meat goes to waste. Why not utilize it," he told The Associated Press.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is considering adopting new regulations for zoos at the request of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) that would require “humane” treatment for bears. The proposed rules would mandate the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) to hire a “bear expert,” prohibit bear pits, and require rules so bears are not “stressed, frustrated, and bored.” PETA, which killed 1,792 stray cats and dogs in 2013, first petitioned the USDA to adopt its rules in 2012. The agency began accepting comments on its petition last November, and extended the comment period on Monday.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are certain about one thing, even though they do not acknowledge that Bigfoot is real: It is just as unethical to kill a Sasquatch as it would be any other animal. In a report posted by the CBS Houston on Jan. 30, the animal rights activists reacted to the idea much as expected, because to members of their organization, shooting and killing a living creature, whether it be for food or sport, is an atrocity. PETA spokesperson Lindsay Rajt told The Houston Chronicle: “As an organization we do oppose hunting of...

British professor Antony Flew wrote over thirty philosophical works which established the foundations for atheism for half a century. His 1950 paper "Theology and Falsification" was the most reprinted philosophical publication of the 20th century. In December 2004 Flew announced in a symposium and subsequent video that he had completely changed his view and now, based on scientific evidence, believed that God exists. In 2007 he wrote the book There Is a God (Amazon USA) (Amazon UK) , subtitled How the World's Most Notorious Atheist Changed His Mind. This is the man without whose ideas the various Richard Dawkins,...

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is no stranger to controversy. Past tactics by the group include nearly nude billboards to protest fur, campaigns comparing farming practices to the Holocaust, and demanding that fish be referred to as "sea kittens." Now, PETA has once again stirred the pot, tweeting today about honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. and "the plight of animals who are tortured, abused & neglected." PETA also released a webpage superimposing King's quotes over pictures of animals. This is basically par for the course for an organization that euthanizes nearly 90 percent of animals in its...

Illinois passed a new state law that set back the efforts of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), making the use of drones to interfere with hunters and fishermen prohibited. The law was created in response to PETA’s plan to employ drones called “air angels” to monitor outdoors enthusiasts engaged in hunting and fishing nationwide. Of course, the motivation for many outdoorsman is to get away from technology and be in harmony with nature. But PETA has another plan for lovers of the wilderness. They want to spy on hunters as self appointed green police trying to...

An environmental activist who pled guilty this month to poaching elk during a November hunting trip will resign his position as the Idaho director of the Greater Yellowstone Coalition. Marv Hoyt, a leading critic of mining activities on the health of sheep and cattle, killed three elk and left the carcasses of two behind to rot in the field. Hoyt had only one tag for one elk, and initially denied to fish and game officers he had killed the other two cows and tried to hide the carcasses with tree branches. Although the protection of elk is a central goal...

On Thursday, PETA called for the cancellation of Duck Dynasty, one of the most highly-rated shows ever, a day after A&E suspended patriarch Phil Robertson for comments that were deemed to be "anti-gay." PETA, which has a history of slamming the show's cast members for hunting, accused the Duck Dynasty cast of "hating people and animals" and called on A&E to ignore former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's Facebook post that said Robertson's suspension was an attack on "all of us" because "free speech is an endangered species." "PETA wants A&E to do more than suspend one of the characters on...

A Pennsylvania teen was attacked by a bear while hunting, causing injuries so severe that she almost lost her ear. Following the attack, PETA wrote her a letter, saying, “This seems to be a good opportunity to put yourself in the place of the individuals you and the rest of your hunting party were trying to kill. As terrifying as it must have been to be attacked by a bear, please consider the frightening and painful experiences that hunters set out to impose upon animals.” Lisa Lange, Senior Vice President of PETA, stood by the letter on Tuesday’s The Real...

Yellowstone's grizzlies, now classified as a threatened species, were briefly removed from protected status by the federal government in 2007, when the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service declared that the outsized, hump-shouldered bears had made a healthy comeback. At the time, the number of grizzlies in the region had exceeded the government's recovery goal of 500 bears, the government said. But conservationists successfully challenged the de-listing in court, arguing that the government discounted climate changes ... On Wednesday, members of the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee sought to reverse that decision, recommending a new de-listing after reviewing a report suggesting Yellowstone's...
