Marc Rich, the trader known as the "King of Commodities" who was pardoned in 2001 by President Bill Clinton just hours before he left office, has died in Switzerland. He was 78. Rich's Israel-based spokesman Avner Azulay says Rich died Wednesday and will be buried in Israel on Thursday. Rich fled the United States to Switzerland in 1983 after being indicted by a U.S. federal grand jury on more than 50 counts of fraud, racketeering, trading with Iran during the U.S. Embassy hostage crisis and evading more than $48 million in income taxes Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2013/06/26/financier-marc-rich-who-fled-to-switzerland-in-183-and-was-pardoned-by-clinton/#ixzz2XK1P5Jvd

Huntington Ingalls Industries announced Monday a milestone in the construction of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) with the addition of the ship’s upper bow section at Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) in Virginia. ‘Father Barack Obama‘ mocked the Sign of the Cross at the White House yesterday. It was an open mockery of the Christian prayer that is accompanied by the immortal words used by peasants and kings over the centuries: “In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit”. Obama, who is left-handed, made the sign of the cross with his left hand, which out of respect for the centuries-long Christian practice, no one ever does. Obama’s left-handed sign of the cross was made over a gobbling turkey during the National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation Ceremony, that takes place at...

While pardoning the Thanksgiving turkey today, President Obama absolved it with what he called a "special dispensation," making the Sign of the Cross over the gobbling turkey. It appears that Obama made a left handed, backward sign of the cross.

President Bill Clinton used his presidential pardon power in July 2000 to commute the sentence of Serena Nunn, who was sentenced to 15 years for a first-time nonviolent drug offense when she was 19. The pardon shaved three years off Nunn's sentence. Nunn told me over the phone, "I thought then that it was a great thing that a president used his power to help an average person." Nunn later graduated from college and then the University of Michigan Law School. Last month, having passed a character fitness test, Nunn passed the Georgia bar. On Monday, she will be sworn...

Hillary Clinton is not a woman who falls on a sword for anyone...but she is someone who knows how to take center stage in the middle of a storm and loudly define herself as the only adult in the room...while all the men around her are emasculated and diminished by her presence. ] I love words and consider them tiny magical spells if strung together properly into well-crafted sentences. I’m a wordsmith and am fascinated by turns of phrase, especially ones that other conservative writers choose to use that I think are inappropriate in certain situations. Today, Ben Shapiro over...

It’s the city’s most expensive co-op apartment — and it can be all yours for a cool $65 million. Songwriter Denise Rich — ex-wife of presidential-pardon recipient Marc Rich — is putting her Fifth Avenue penthouse on the selling block. With such a staggering price tag, a buyer can expect a bit more than the basic luxury amenities. The digs are so expansive that Rich — who penned the lyrics to such hits as the Aretha Franklin-Mary J. Blige duet, “Don’t Waste Your Time,” and Mandy Moore’s “Candy” — once converted one of her three terraces into a professional-grade figure-skating...

The sheer number of pardons handed out by outgoing Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour – over 200 – left many Mississippians in shock. What may not have been so surprising is that white prisoners were four times more likely than black ones to get the gubernatorial benefit of the doubt. Out of a total of 222 acts of clemency given by Barbour during his tenure – 156 of which Attorney General Jim Hood has subsequently argued may be constitutionally invalid because of public notice violations – two-thirds benefited white prisoners. Meanwhile, two-thirds of the state's prison population is black. On its...

Israel has canceled the pardon of the former Fatah terror leader in Jenin, Zakaria Zubeidi, and instructed him to hand himself in to the Palestinian Authority (PA), he told Ma'an on Thursday. Zubeidi, who headed the Al-Aqsa Brigades during the murderous terror war launched by the PLO in 2000, told the PA-based news agency he had stuck to all the conditions of the amnesty deal granted him by Israel three years ago. However, he said, Israel informed PA security forces on Thursday that Zubeidi's pardon had been revoked, and that Israeli forces would detain him if he did not turn...

Isn't it entirely likely Obama will pardon Eric Holder for Fast & Furious sometime before he leaves office? Plus, how far reaching could Obama pardon citizens of the US? Carter pardoned all of those draft dodgers. Are there no restrictions on Obama?

Georgia inmate Troy Davis's last-ditch request for a lie detector test to try to prove his innocence ahead of tonight's planned execution has been denied by Georgia Department of Corrections. Defence lawyer Stephen Marsh said he had hoped the polygraph would convince the state pardons board to reconsider a decision against clemency, which was rejected yesterday. Davis, 42, is scheduled to die at 7pm tonight. It is the fourth time in four years that Davis' execution has been scheduled by Georgia officials.

ROBERTSON, Associated Press Updated: 4:29 p.m. Friday RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina lawmakers will try again to consider pardoning an ousted post-Civil War governor while meeting next week in the same historic building where the House impeached and the Senate convicted him after he sent troops to fight the Ku Klux Klan, a pardon sponsor said Friday. **SNIP** Holden, a Republican, was impeached in 1870 after he ordered a militia to quell activity by the KKK in Alamance and Caswell counties. He was convicted by the Democratic-controlled Senate in...

Imprisoned former Gov. George Ryan is known around the world for clearing Illinois’ Death Row in 2003 and imposing a moratorium on the death penalty. But the governor who pardoned more than 200 people admitted in a recently released court deposition that he “didn’t understand” the difference between two major types of pardons and that he was declaring a Chicago inmate innocent by the way he pardoned him . . .

Just a minor historical footnote, but arguably an interesting one . . . A man whose Watergate reporting made his career and led to Richard Nixon's downfall has declared that Pres. Gerald Ford did the right thing in pardoning Nixon. Carl Bernstein made the--to me at least--surprising statement on today's Morning Joe, in the course of a discussion of Jeff Greenfield's new book about various what-ifs in history. View video here.

Wisconsin: It’s game time. Brinkmanship. Call it what you want. But today, an elected Governor is forced to deal with a matter soon to hit other states if it hasn’t already. It is more than about unions. It is about America coming to terms with a long standing policy that has crippled states and even nations into bankruptcy: allowing a non-elected body to bypass a legislature and determine how much wealth they receive from a public treasury. Not to blemish his formerly hidden persona, the person who recently stated “We must live within our means” and “debate with a more...

On his final night in office, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger reduced the prison sentence of the son of former Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez, Esteban Nuñez, who had pleaded guilty to participating in the killing of a college student. The governor also granted several other commutations and pardons and gave plum government appointments to political allies and the spouse of his chief of staff. Schwarzenegger announced the moves in a batch of eleventh-hour press releases e-mailed to reporters. Esteban Nuñez, now 21, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for his role in the stabbing death of Luis Santos. Schwarzenegger cut the...

Though the Eagles didn’t have a chance to make news on the field tonight, they made some more news off the field. Peter King of NBC reported during Football Night in America that President Barack Obama recently called Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie to congratulate the team for giving quarterback Mike Vick a second chance. President Obama explained that a level playing field rarely exists for prisoners who have completed their sentences. Vick’s success gives all of them hope. In our view, Obama’s gesture also provides Vick with the kind of positive reinforcement that will help keep him out of any...
