The White House has reportedly floated an offer to Russian President Vladimir Putin to allow Kremlin access to key NATO bases in exchange for Moscow de-escalating tensions over its military buildup on Ukraine’s border. The proposal would also involve discussions about Russia verifying that the US has not deployed Tomahawk cruise missiles to bases in Romania and Poland, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday. The reported offer would be contingent on agreement from US allies, including Romania and Poland, while Russia would also have to provide similar information about bases with ground-launched weapon systems. The overture reportedly is intended to ease...

World powers will present Iran with an updated and "good" offer at talks this week on its nuclear program, an EU official said Monday, although hopes for a breakthrough appear slim, AFP reports. MUMBAI: In 2008, when Atlanta-based Georgia Tech University bought 250 acres of land in Hyderabad it left many gaping. It did something even more astonishing shortly afterwards: it invited its own faculty members to quit their jobs and consider moving to India. A professor in the computer science department of the university told TOI: ‘‘Each one of us got a formal note. Even more amazingly, he added, all of us were offered the same salary that we were getting in Georgia. It was clearly an offer very few would even think of refusing; given the cost of living in India,...
