The grocery stores on the base, where troops get discounted groceries for their families are, however, closed. With the prospects growing of a government shutdown on Tuesday, the White House said Thursday that President Obama has no intention of postponing a week-long trip to Asia that begins Oct. 6. “Our schedule remains as planned,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. Retired Marine Gen. James "Hoss" Cartwright has reportedly lost his security clearance as an investigation into his involvement in national security leaks continues, Foreign Policy reports. The White House announced on Thursday that it intends to “ban almost all re-imports of military surplus firearms to private entities” through executive order, which would effectively shut down the 110-year-old Civilian Marksmanship Program. In a Fact Sheet published on Whitehouse.gov today referencing the upcoming executive order the ban on importing military weapons is designed to “keep military-grade firearms off our streets.” Exceptions for import may be allowed for museums.
