Twenty years ago this Sunday, TWA Flight 800, a 747 bound for Paris, exploded off the coast of Long Island, killing all 230 people on board. In the last few years, researchers have unearthed an astonishing treasure trove of CIA documents, secured a confirmed video of a Long Island missile launch five days before TWA 800’s demise, and persuaded numerous witnesses and whistleblowers from inside the investigation to come forward. Here is what we now know.

When it comes to hunching over while breathing through the mouth, he surely knows a thing or two. . . If you’re the perviest creep in politics, you probably shouldn’t insult decent Americans in the most denigrating terms. But hey, you’re disgraced ex-congressman Anthony Weiner, wife of close Hillary aide Huma Abedin. Appearing on today’s With All Due Respect, Weiner, slumped in his chair in T-shirt and jeans, said that Donald Trump “appeals to that mouth-breathing, hunched over, one-tooth person that is the primary voter for Republicans.” For good measure, Weiner said “I will eat Heilemann’s shoes” if Hillary doesn’t...

The New York City scandal of bribes being paid to obtain highly desired and irrationally restricted gun permits is something that few find unusual, exceptional or unlikely. The entire practice of the unconstitutional gun permit scheme was conceived in corruption and has always been administered as a way of benefiting elites and corrupt officials. People without connections or money lose their Constitutional rights. From ap.org: The New York investigation caught Alex “Shaya” Lichtenstein, a volunteer safety patrol member in his Orthodox Jewish neighborhood, on tape bragging that he had obtained at least 150 licenses for people to carry guns...

(CNN)Members of the New York Police Department bomb squad are investigating the cause of an explosion in Central Park on Sunday that nearly blew a man's leg off, police said. Preliminary investigation suggests the explosion was an "experiment with fireworks or homemade explosives," NYPD Deputy Chief John O'Connell said at a news conference Sunday afternoon. "We do not have any evidence of a constructed device or commercial-grade fireworks," he said. "There are no specific, credible threats directed at New York or the July Fourth celebrations." It is not unusual for people to try and make homemade fireworks around the Fourth...

A blast in Central Park severed the foot of a young man visiting New York from northern Virginia Sunday, witnesses said. The NYPD’s bomb squad was investigating the area of the park near E. 68th St. and Fifth Ave. Witnesses said the victim stepped on a device or fireworks, causing the blast. His foot was “all but gone,” one witness told the Daily News. Two of the victim's shocked friends described the ghastly sight moments before being taken away in an ambulance. "We don't know what happened. There was a small explosion and then dust," said one friend who didn't...

The Star-Spangled Banner survived the rocket’s red glare and bombs bursting in air – only to face a modern-day threat – silly town ordinances and petty bureaucrats. I’m not sure if it’s an epidemic of anti-American nincompoopery sweeping across the fruited plain or if it’s a general lack of common sense. Maybe it’s both. I’ll let you be the judge of that.

Firefighters and medics will take their first “Trans 101” course on Tuesday, learning the correct way to interact with transgender people — and even getting a lesson in what LGTBQI actually stands for, a city official said. The two-hour sensitivity training was launched in March by the city Commission for Human Rights after Mayor de Blasio signed an executive order allowing people to use any public bathroom or locker room they identified with, regardless of their sexual anatomy.

A corruption probe at the New York Police Department has cast a harsh light on how people get handgun permits in a city that boasts some of the nation’s toughest gun laws. Federal prosecutors say a shady fixer’s cash bribes induced officers working in NYPD’s licensing division to rubber-stamp dozens of gun applications, circumventing stringent background checks intended to weed out candidates with criminal records, mental health problems and other red flags. The potential public safety breach comes amid a national debate over whether easy access to weapons fueled the Orlando massacre and other mass shootings. …

On June 28, 1969, patrons at a gay bar in New York City's West Village neighborhood decided they had finally had enough after yet another police raid. As the NYPD attempted to enforce a law making it illegal to serve alcohol to "homosexuals," the resistance of the bar patrons turned into an uprising - the Stonewall Uprising - an event now widely credited with sparking the modern LGBTQ rights movement in the U.S. Now, nearly 50 years later, that same location - where members of the community stood up to government injustice - has been designated a new national monument...

President Barack Obama announced Friday he was designating the area around the Stonewall Inn in New York City as the country's first national monument to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights. "This week I'm designating the Stonewall National Monument as the newest addition to America's national park system," Obama said in a video released by the White House on Friday. "I believe our national parks should reflect the full story of our country -- the richness and diversity and uniquely American spirit that has always defined us, that we are stronger than ever. That out of many, we are...

Thousands of heat deaths predicted as New York City heats up, scientists say By Sebastien Malo NEW YORK (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - More than 3,000 New Yorkers could die each year from intense heat due to climate change beginning about 60 years from now, researchers said on Thursday. The number of hot days is expected to triple by the year 2080 and beyond, causing death by heat exhaustion, dehydration or heart and respiratory conditions, said the main author of a study published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives. With so many hot days, when the temperature is at or above...

“It will be a great day when our schools get all the money they need and the Air Force has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber” went the old bumper sticker often seen on Volvos. In Mayor Bill de Blasio’s New York, it’s more like, “It will be a great day when our schools get all the money they need and the mayor has to hold a bake sale to run mostly useless ads that do little but pat himself on the back.” We might have crumbling infrastructure, failing schools and an overburdened transit system, but the...

The most unaffordable place to live in the US is not San Francisco or Manhattan. It’s Brooklyn. A person earning the average salary in Brooklyn cannot afford the average home there — even if he could spend his entire salary (and then some) on housing, according to a survey released Thursday by real estate firm RealtyTrac, which looked at home sales price data in 417 of the most populous counties in the US as well as average wage data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The second- and third-most unaffordable places in America are Marin County, Calif., and Santa Cruz,...
