The New York City scandal of bribes being paid to obtain highly desired and irrationally restricted gun permits is something that few find unusual, exceptional or unlikely. The entire practice of the unconstitutional gun permit scheme was conceived in corruption and has always been administered as a way of benefiting elites and corrupt officials. People without connections or money lose their Constitutional rights. From ap.org: The New York investigation caught Alex Shaya Lichtenstein, a volunteer safety patrol member in his Orthodox Jewish neighborhood, on tape bragging that he had obtained at least 150 licenses for people to carry guns by paying up to $6,000 in bribes for each weapon. The bribes were covered by fees of $10,000 or more paid by clients who in turn saw their applications to carry a handgun approved in two months or less compared to as long as a year in normal circumstances while other clients saw their criminal histories ignored. AP has long approved of keeping the common folk disarmed, so it is no surprise that they find the scandal that some people were able to obtain gun permits by paying $10,000 dollars to a fixer. The real scandal is that no one should have to pay thousands of dollars to exercise a fundamental constitutional right. The New York gun scandal has its foundation in the Sullivan Act, a product of the corrupt gangster Big Tim Sullivan. Big Tim introduced the act to prevent his enforcers from being shot by the people they were extorting money from. Permits have always been available to the well heeled and well connected. It is no surprise that Donald Trump and two of his children have coveted New York City pistol permits. The surprise is

I can almost see how this fellow excused it. The ethics are literally biblical.
The elites get their carry permits. I must lock up my NY State licensed to carry pistol, when traveling through NYC. But some people’s $#!+ don’t stink.
In NYC, the rule is buy a gun and remember, if you get caught, the law is not your own side.
People are made scofflaws because every one knows as a practical matter, you will never be approved for a gun permit.
But when your life is on the line, an unjust law and the corruption that surrounds it becomes a secondary matter.
A lot of people carry concealed in NYC and its common knowledge they flout the law. But then you have a law that’s impossible to enforce.
Lol...it is no longer about who obeys the law, but who gets caught and how much money you have.
The most powerful motivator in the world is attraction combined with opposition (resistance).
In this case the attraction is the desire to obtain a license. The opposition is the hoops the officials require.
Taking advantage of that is the most evil there is.
This is the 2nd or 3rd time in my lifetime that there’s been a scandal and personnel shakeup in the license bureau. I don’t see how it’s legally justifiable to charge nearly $300 for a renewable license that is neutered when I live a few counties north of nyc and I paid about $100 and its unrestricted for life.
As licenses outside of nyc, Nassau, and Suffolk are issues by the elected judges instead of unelected police officers, this should be an equal protection challenge in a federal court.
Neither my wife or I have NY licenses, yet we have never been asked, by the police, to show a license.
Just carry a revolver.
If you need it, it is not going to be in a brightly lite heavily populated area.
Just shoot and walk away, if you have time, take the spoil but leaven no prints or empty casings.

Defense
[Defense; militia]
Section 1. The defense and protection of the state and of the United States is an obligation of all persons within the state. The legislature shall provide for the discharge of this obligation and for the maintenance and regulation of an organized militia.
New York City is run by crooks and has been for a century, at least (possible exception of Giuliani). There is little wonder they don’t want honest people to have firearms.
I remember about forty years ago when NYC decided to get rid of all their confiscated guns. They got several Coast Guard ships to haul tens of thousands of old confiscated guns out and dump them in the ocean.
What a tragic waste of resources and cultural artefacts.
