For the first time this cycle, the senators on the list of most vulnerable incumbents have changed. Operatives in both parties agree Democratic Sens. Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Bob Casey of Pennsylvania are favored to win re-election even though they are running in states that backed President Donald Trump in 2016. Texas Republican Ted Cruz and New Jersey Democrat Robert Menendez replace them on the list. Red-state Democrats still dominate, with North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp remaining in the top spot. Nevada Republican Dean Heller is still the second-most vulnerable incumbent with the wind at Democrats’ backs this midterm....

Wendy Rogers, the GOP nominee for Congress in Arizona’s first congressional district, has taken a slight lead over Democratic incumbent Rep. Tom O’Halleran (D-AZ) in a key district that could decide the fate of the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. This district is one of just a handful nationwide where Republicans have an opportunity to flip a seat currently represented by a Democrat back into GOP hands. A couple other such seats exist in Minnesota and one more is in Nevada, but there are hardly any pickup opportunities for Republicans when it comes to defending their House majority....

Cristiano Ronaldo has dismissed as "fake news" accusations by a US woman who alleges she was raped by the Portuguese footballer in 2009. In an Instagram video, Ronaldo said: "They want to promote [themselves] by [using] my name. It's normal." Ronaldo's lawyers say they will sue Germany's Der Spiegel magazine, which originally reported the allegations. The magazine wrote that Kathryn Mayorga had claimed Ronaldo, 33, raped her in a hotel room in Las Vegas. Ms Mayorga, 34, is reported to have filed a rape report with Las Vegas police shortly after the alleged incident. In 2010, she reportedly reached an...

A 527 political organization funded primarily by a trio of liberal mega-donors - Tom Steyer, George Soros, and S. Donald Sussman - is attempting to impact local and state-level political campaigns by donating to committees funded primarily by leftwing pressure groups. The Washington Free Beacon previously reported that the group, State Victory Action, donated $500,000 to an independent expenditure committee in Colorado in support of the Democratic gubernatorial nominee. However, a state-by-state review of other records shows SVA is also active in Minnesota, Maine, New Mexico, and Nevada, totaling about $1.7 million in disclosed funding thus far in state campaign...

Shortly after last year's shooting massacre on the Las Vegas strip, Ohio Gov. John Kasich convened a working group to explore possible reforms to state gun laws. A Republican, Kasich wanted to be sure the panel's members clearly supported the Second Amendment. Yet it also was to be bipartisan, with members from across the political spectrum. The panel's work accelerated after the Valentine's Day slaughter at a high school in Parkland, Florida, and it eventually produced a legislative package of what Kasich labeled "sensible changes that should keep people safer." The legislation was introduced by a Republican lawmaker in the...

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is "screwing" over his Democratic colleagues by keeping them in session this October and therefore keeping them off the campaign trail, according to Politico's Burgess Everett. "Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is planning to keep the chamber in session for a significant portion of October if not four entire weeks, costing Democrats key campaign trail days and allowing the Senate to continue its work into the fall, according to five Republican officials," Everett writes . Yet, Republicans say two weeks is plenty of time for their Democratic colleagues to make their case to voters. Burgess Everett...

The Kentucky Republican identifies a large number of toss-up contests The 2018 midterms are setting up to be like a “knife fight in an alley,” according to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. The Republican from Kentucky said he expects to see more of President Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama on the campaign trail. But McConnell, asked about whether Trump should be talking about the prospects of Democrats trying to impeach him, said, “I don’t have any advice to give him about what he says at the rallies.” Speaking at a news conference Tuesday in Louisville, McConnell rattled off...

Alex's largest donation this cycle was for $2 million to the Senate Majority PAC (SMP), a committee launched by former staffers of retired Nevada senator Harry Reid that is dedicated to electing and keeping Democrats in the Senate. SMP reports nearly $80 million in contributions this cycle, and Alex's $2 million donation makes him one of the top donors to the PAC, its filings show. The group has already dished out more than $30 million in independent expenditures this cycle backing Democrats. Alex added $33,900 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's coffers. Another $101,700 was given to the committee's headquarters...

The new NBC News-Wall Street Journal survey, taken six weeks before Americans head to the polls, shows Democrats leading Republicans by 52 percent to 40 percent for control of Congress. If it holds, that 12 percentage point margin would suggest a "blue wave" large enough to switch control of not just the House but also the Senate.

Taxpayers potentially owe almost $610 million to local government employees in Nevada’s two most populous counties for their unused paid time off, financial reports show. That liability grew 26 percent from 2007 to 2017, and it doesn’t represent compensation that will be paid exclusively for rest, relaxation, illness or personal time. Many of Nevada’s public employees can stockpile their sick and vacation hours and cash them out at retirement. Some of those payouts exceed $100,000.

Backers of a voter-approved gun buyer screening initiative that passed in November 2016 but was never enacted have filed notice they'll ask the Nevada Supreme Court to overrule a judge who decided the measure was fatally flawed and could not be enforced. The state high court should side with voters who chose to close what proponents of the measure call a legal loophole that lets gun purchasers skip background screenings when buying from another person or online, attorney Tami Cowden said Thursday. Twenty states have similar laws, she said. Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval declined through his spokeswoman to respond to...

Nevada Democrat is ‘bought and paid’ by her ‘out-of-state donors,’ he says Aiming to boost vulnerable Nevada Sen. Dean Heller on his home turf amid a fierce re-election bid, President Donald Trump dubbed the Republican a “champion” of conservative causes and called his Democratic foe “wacky.” “There’s been no better friend — we started off slow — but I’ve had no better friend in Congress than Dean Heller,” Trump said Thursday at a campaign rally in Las Vegas. Trump first singled out Danny Tarkanian, who is in a close fight for Nevada’s open 3rd District seat. Trump then soon hailed...

Photos posted online from Las Vegas show a massive turnout for President’s Trump’s campaign rally being held Thursday night at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The half-mile-plus lines in the 95 degree heat are reminiscent of the huge crowds that turned out in 2015-2016 for Trump’s presidential campaign rallies. The Washington Post’s Ashley Parker reported on the enthusiasm of the Trump supporters, “Some brief anecdotal scene from the Trump rally here in Las Vegas: One woman drove in from San Diego. Another drove 16 hours from Elk City, Idaho. A man and his son flew down from Washington State. And...

President Donald Trump heads to Nevada, where the Affordable Care Act is perhaps the most important issue in a pivotal Senate race. GOP Sen. Dean Heller, who voted for a bill to repeal parts of Obamacare after pledging to oppose an earlier version, is facing a tough re-election bid against Democratic Rep. Jacky Rosen. Nevada saw a massive decrease in its uninsured rate after it expanded Medicaid under the health care law. As he pushed Senate Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act last year, President Donald Trump zeroed in on Sen. Dean Heller. When the president had lunch with...

President Donald Trump plans to visit Las Vegas on Thursday for a “Make America Great Again” rally in advance of the November midterm elections, the Review-Journal has learned. The rally is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Details, such as which Republican candidates will appear at the event, are still to be determined. This will be Trump’s seventh rally in Las Vegas since he declared his candidacy for the presidency in June 2015.
