  • Ken Norton dies. RIP

I don't have a link at this time, but I just read on AOL that Kenny Norton had gone to his reward. Never liked his style of boxing, but HE made Ali THE Greatest. In their first fight, he broke Ali's jaw in the early rounds. Still, Ali went the distance and lost in a decision. In their 2nd fight in Yankee Stadium, Ali won in a split decision. If it wasn't for Ali, Norton would be an obscure "also-ran" In any case, Norton was one of the TOP Heavy-Weights of the era. RIP

He was 70. Ken Norton Jr., a coach with the Seattle Seahawks, confirmed the death to The Associated Press before handing the phone to his wife, too distraught to talk. During today’s IRS hearing before the House Government Oversight and Reform Committee, Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) took a detour that she may regret. Holmes Norton lauded the IRS officials who were testifying before the committee, which at that point were Carter Hull and Elizabeth Hofacre. Hull and Hofacre are among the IRS agents who were involved in scrutinizing Tea Party and conservative groups. Both testified that they were acting on orders from their superiors in Washington. Hofacre worked in the Cincinnati office that IRS Washington official Lois Lerner blamed for the abuse. Lerner broke the story in a conference...

I'm having fits uninstalling McAfee and replacing it with Norton. McAfee had become just too irritating to the point of shutting down some downloads from Amazon (but not all, no consistency there). It kept giving me pop ups at seemingly random times. Now, McAfee just shut down everything when Norton tried an uninstall. Anyone have similar problems?? I'm using my blessed Apple IPad now.

  • Norton I: America's Unsung Emperor

Photo: Unknown Did you know that America once had an emperor? As ridiculous as this sounds, few heads of state have received burials as regal and solemn as that which took place in San Francisco, on January 10th, 1880. 30,000 people lined the streets, while businesses closed for the day and flags flew at half-mast. Many had shed bitter tears on reading, ‘Le Roi est mort’ – the King is dead. This ‘king’ left an estate worth only $6 when he died – a tramp of madcap appearance, who collapsed on a rain-swept street two days before his funeral,...

Democrat: Government Shutdown Like 'Bombing Innocent Civilians'April 07, 2011 Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D -DC) was on fire when she spoke to FOX 5 Morning News Thursday about how Washington, D.C. residents are being treated as work to avoid a government shutdown continues. "We are absolutely outraged. This is the functional equivalent of bombing innocent civilians," she said. "It's time that the District of Columbia told the Congress to go straight to hell," Norton continued after explaining how an attached rider to the latest bill prevented D.C. from spending its own money on abortions for low income women. D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton is no exception. The Democratic non-voting representative for the District of Columbia told MyFoxDC.com that Congress should go "straight to hell" for trying to meddle in D.C. affairs. Norton was referring to a provision in the stopgap budget bill House Republicans are pushing that would ban federal and local taxpayer dollars in the District of Columbia from being used to pay for abortions. "We are absolutely outraged. This is the functional equivalent of bombing innocent civilians,"

Norton fiends can now officially rejoice – the resurrected bike maker's wares will finally be available here in the U.S. starting in either April or May. The final date depends on whether or not the 961 Commando can swim through EPA testing, though the company is confident that there shouldn't be any issues. A whopping total of 200 limited edition 961 Commando SE models have been built, and of the 50 allotted for U.S. sale, only a handful were still available as of yesterday. Every last one of the UK's batch were spoken for. Buyers can opt between a wire-wheeled...

DENVER -- Contentious political contests and Colorado's biggest experiment yet with mail-in voting has drawn a record number of primary voters, with Republicans alone already surpassing the total number of ballots cast from both parties in the 2006 general election for governor. Most Colorado counties are using all-mail balloting and as of midday Tuesday, 38 percent of Democrats had voted and nearly 42 percent of Republicans had turned in ballots, according to figures from the Secretary of State's Office. Both figures are much higher than usual for a primary race. Denver had a voter turnout of about 16 percent in...

With 4,115 of 5,458 precincts reporting statewide, or 75 percent, Buck was leading Norton in the GOP primary for U.S. Senate, with 177,617 votes (52 percent) to Norton's 166,955 (48 percent). (snip) In an interview Wednesday, Norton said she is not sure yet what to do about illegal immigrants currently in the country. But she is intrigued by an idea that would allow illegal immigrants to turn themselves in to police, undergo a background check and pay a fine. Instead of a jail sentence, they could do community service. Norton is not endorsing the idea, she said, but "I would absolutely entertain it. The person would have a criminal record. It would be a record that they broke the law," she said. (snip)

The slayings of 10 aid workers in Afghanistan by the Taliban are a stark reminder of what could happen without American involvement there, U.S. Sen. John McCain said. McCain stumped Sunday at Mesa State College for Grand Junction native Jane Norton, urging about 150 people to get out the vote in the Republican primary election. Norton faces Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck in the GOP primary for the U.S. Senate, and the winner will face the victor in the Democratic Party primary pitting Sen. Michael Bennet against former Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff. (snip) McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential...

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Republican Senate candidate Jane Norton has been criticized throughout her campaign for being too cozy with Arizona Sen. John McCain. Two days before the contest ends, though, the former Colorado lieutenant governor launched a cross-state sweep promoting her association with McCain, whom she called an "American hero."McCain told reporters in suburban Denver he came to the state two weeks before his own Republican primary because he wanted to urge Republicans here to choose Norton over Weld County prosecutor Ken Buck. "We need a lot of help right now," McCain said, talking about Republicans in the Senate.
