A California grandfather was shot in the face and killed while trying to apologize for a minor fender bender in a Walmart parking lot. Jonathan Mauk, 59, was going to the store in San Bernardino County to run some errands on February 5 when he accidentally backed his Chevrolet Camaro into another woman's car, who was leaving her parking spot. The impact was minor - and the woman, Shawntece Norton, 36, was left with a scratch on her vehicle.

**SNIP** Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton issued a statement responding to the President's request saying the tanks would not be ideal for the event. “After we have worked for years with the National Park Service to refurbish the National Mall, at a cost of millions of taxpayer dollars, President Trump now proposes to have 60-ton battle tanks there, where they would likely do significant damage," Holmes Norton said. "These tanks, heavy equipment, and weapons of war have no place on the National Mall at all, particularly as we celebrate the Fourth of July." **SNIP** "Just as the Pentagon reminded the president...

Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan says he enlists social media to do something unusual: explain why he bucks his party in terms his constituents can understand. The 39-year-old Republican, who was the youngest member of the freshman class in 2011, states his approach succinctly: “I defend liberty and explain every vote here.” The simple formula has turned the libertarian, who rode into the House on the tea party wave, into something of a sensation. In 2012, the Independent Voter Network called Amash the “coolest member of Congress.” Amash’s latest decision — to state publicly that President Trump engaged in activity...

The thousands of immigrants being held at the country's southern border this month each have their own stories to tell. Many, if not most, are destitute refugees fleeing crime, drugs and poverty in their troubled home countries. Some, without question, are undesirables that Americans can only hope U.S. officials will identify and send away. Then there is Eduard Rojas Fernandez, a 117-pound professional jockey from Venezuela who believes his refusal to throw races at the mafia's command has made him a target in his home country. Back in Caracas, he believes, a bullet just might have his name on it.

Graham Norton has told of his concerns at the rise of right-wing politics in the world, but admitted he fears the consequences of sharing his opinions online. The BBC chat show host, who has previously spoken about his shock that Britain voted to leave the EU, also said he struggles to imagine what life will be like post-Brexit, suggesting London could turn into “a ghost town”.

    A query from a friend about Kaspersky | 11/15/17 | Me, Myself, & I
I came home tonight to find an answering machine message from a friend considering installing Kaspersky Internet Security on her computer. But, she had heard of the recent Israeli hack into Kaspersky and the rumors that Kaspersky is collecting info for the Russian government. I have read several authors' discussions about whether Kaspersky is safe to use. I have used it for about a decade or so, and find it to be excellent. I'd be interested to know what FReepers think, particularly those of you with a computer security background!

Hello. I am Hillary Rodham Clinton, and this is the Graham Norton Show.” The almost-holder of what was once the loftiest imaginable office was surprisingly game for a bit of British kitsch: warm, indulgent and dressed in yellow, like a president on a kindergarten walkabout. She is still too grand for some of Graham Norton’s antics. She wasn’t sold on the idea of sharing a sofa with another celebrity. You cannot blame her. The chat-trading of Norton’s ersatz dinner party environment is inherently high-risk. You could be in the middle of the most profoundly revealing story – one you could...

Symantec enterprise and Norton security product users are being urged to patch their applications immediately after multiple dangerous vulnerabilities were discovered. The security firm has advised that 17 enterprise security products and nine Norton consumer offerings are affected. Google Project Zero researcher Tavis Ormandy discovered the flaws. The most serious is that the products unpack compressed executables in the operating system kernel to analyse them for malicious code. He said this dangerous practice means the vulnerability can be exploited by simply sending a link or an email - users don't need to do anything to activate an attack.

The District of Columbia's congresswoman on Thursday introduced a bill to strip the NFL of its federal antitrust protection as long as it allows Washington's football team to use the name "Redskins," a moniker some see as racist. Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton said the National Football League and Washington's football team "should not be benefitting financially from federal antitrust exemptions while they continue to promote a disparaging moniker that has been found by legal authorities to be a racial slur." A federal judge in July upheld an earlier decision by the United States Patent and Trademark Office that the...

WASHINGTON - D.C.'s delegate to Congress is making news for her parking skills. Video published by Roll Call shows Eleanor Holmes Norton awkwardly trying to wedge her car between two cars parked in angled spaces near the Capitol earlier this week. You could say that didn't go well. The video was shot Wednesday along New Jersey Avenue Southeast, between the Longworth and Cannon House Office buildings, according to Roll Call. Norton, 77, is seen trying to squeeze her silver, four-door sedan in between two other cars that are parked in angled spots. The only problem? Norton is trying to park...

Unbelievable Video. Call it the parking job seen 'round the web. A video has gone viral of D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton executing an objectively poor parking job -- even by Washington standards. The incident, and video, were first reported by Roll Call. A tipster was apparently on the scene and watched as Norton angled her car into a diagonal spot near Capitol Hill, ending up practically perpendicular to the surrounding vehicles. The tipster told Roll Call this was around the time of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani's address to Congress on Wednesday.

Eleanor Holmes Norton, the non-voting congressional delegate for the District of Columbia, angrily sputtered during a congressional hearing Friday that the White House should not be held up to scrutiny, saying that there was no right to know what it was doing behind closed doors. "You don't have a right to know everything in a separation-of-powers government, my friend. That is the difference between a parliamentary government and a separation-of-powers government," Norton said during a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing. It was, to put mildly, a significant departure from the more traditional liberal stance that openness and transparency...
