BOSCAWEN — U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-NH, said Friday she is still “regrouping” after her election defeat Tuesday to Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan, but she did not rule out playing a role in the Trump administration. Rumors circulated nationally Friday morning that Ayotte could be tapped for a position in the new administration, despite her break from statements during her Senate campaign that were seen as supporting Trump.

After a 31-point blowout at the KFC Yum! Center, Rick Pitino's postgame press conference drifted from the usual Xs and Os. . . .Everybody in this room has problems with him. And I think the only way to remedy a problem is to find a solution. The first thing I said in the show is ... call up John McCain, apologize and then publicly apologize. Because that has upset me since day one. That man was five years in solitary confinement and was beaten. He's a hero to all of us, and he needs to be apologized to first ......

The Trump team has added a name to its list of potential candidates for secretary of defense — outgoing Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), according to two sources familiar with the ongoing discussions. If chosen, Ayotte would stand out in a Trump administration as a neoconservative defense hawk and one of the few women in the incoming Trump Cabinet. No decisions have been made and the current list for possible defense secretary picks still centers around retired Army Lt. Gen. Joseph “Keith” Kellogg, former Defense Intelligence Agency director Gen. Mike Flynn and Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.). Flynn would need a congressional...

Outgoing Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., is at the top of President-elect Trump's list for secretary of defense, according to a Washington Post report published Friday evening. Other candidates up for the Pentagon chief slot are retired Army Lt. Gen. Joseph "Keith" Kellogg, former Defense Intelligence Agency director Gen. Mike Flynn and Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions. snip.... Sources said Ayotte's neoconservative background would help her serve as a liaison between the GOP establishment in Congress and Trump administration. She would also be the first woman to oversee the Defense Department.

Republicans had excellent results in Tuesday’s high-stakes Senate races, winning numerous tough battles to preserve their majority in the chamber for the next two years. But Tuesday’s results revealed an interesting dynamic: The Republican Senate candidates who rejected President-elect Donald Trump and tried to go it alone were the only ones who ended up losing their races. Overall, there were eight Republican-held seats and one Democrat-held seat that were competitive going into Tuesday night: Illinois, Wisconsin, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Florida, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Missouri. Of the nine Republicans in these competitive races, six of them stood by Trump...

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Republican power in state capitols will be at its strongest levels in nearly a century when several newly elected governors take office next year. A remarkable election that propelled Republican Donald Trump to the White House also resulted in Republican wins in a trio of governorships previously held by Democrats in Missouri, New Hampshire and Vermont. The only potential Republican setback came in North Carolina, where Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper declared victory over Gov. Pat McCrory in a race that remained too close to call Wednesday.

"It’s looking like (Secretary of State) Bill Gardner’s prediction of a record turnout is going to hold up," said Deputy Secretary of State David Scanlan in a phone interview. On Friday, Gardner predicted a record 550,000 votes will be cast on Elections Day. He believes 282,000 Republican ballots will be cast – a record for the GOP – and 268,000 Democratic ballots, second to the 272,000 cast in 2008. . . . One woman exiting the school, Alice Noise, said she was a Democrat who voted for Trump because she had lost trust in Clinton after repeated scandals. "I was...

The winner of the U.S. presidential election will be determined by about 17 swing counties, with a total of about 500,000 swing voters between them. The American public has heard that 12 swing states will determine who will be the next president. But a book, Presidential Swing States: Why Only Ten Matter, by Hamline University Professor David Schultz, who also edits the Journal of Public Affairs Education, predicts a very small number of America’s 3,142 counties and county equivalents will tip the balance. In Ohio, it’s Hamilton County, home to Cincinnati; In Pennsylvania, the key counties are Bucks and Chester...

Donald Trump’s former campaign manager and CNN commentator Corey Lewandowski tells Breitbart News that the campaign is sweeping into New Hampshire in the final days before the election. “New Hampshire has never been good to the Clinton campaign. If you remember back in ’92, Bill Clinton lost when he ran for president. Hillary Clinton lost when she ran for president,” Lewandowski said during an exclusive interview. He calls New Hampshire home, and discussed several state primaries: Donald Trump dominated the New Hampshire primaries. His ground game there is one of the very, very best in the countries. I know it...
