JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Republican power in state capitols will be at its strongest levels in nearly a century when several newly elected governors take office next year.

A remarkable election that propelled Republican Donald Trump to the White House also resulted in Republican wins in a trio of governorships previously held by Democrats in Missouri, New Hampshire and Vermont. The only potential Republican setback came in North Carolina, where Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper declared victory over Gov. Pat McCrory in a race that remained too close to call Wednesday.

Well Mr. & Mrs. Liberal America, President Trump is elected and the Republicans control both Houses of Congress.

AND they've increased the State Governorships.

"What say you?"

Cooper's ahead by 5,000. Hard to overcome.

Pat had to focus less on the campaign due to the hurricane. If he did not he’d get slammed for campaigning. Little choice.

Takes 32 governors to be part of a constitutional change. We got that with 33.

Well, so much for “this has no meaning beyond Trump’s personal appeal to angry white voters.”

I heard on the radio today that Cooper got 85,000 more votes than McCrory in Guilford and Forsyth counties.

The GOP is going to lose one governor’s seat next year when Chris Christie’s second term in office comes to an end.

May be; these are cities such as Greensboro and Winston-Salem. Lots of youth here too between UNC-G and WFU. But the burbs I think would trend red. 85K is a high margin here

Even dog-catcher is better off being Republican:

Dog catcher philosophy...

REPUBLICAN — catch stray dogs

DEMOCRAT — tour the city lecturing people about the plight of abandoned dogs

“All but freaking West Virginia!”

I wish that were true.

I thought McCrory won, they are STEALING IT IN NC. What a tragedy for the people of that state in an otherwise great election.

And an under 4 point loss in Montana, GD it.

The not close losses were WA and OR special election, those 2 states have gone the longest without GOP wins.

And the only non-competitive race for the GOP, Delaware.

You do have some good news in West VA, other statewide offices, GOP domination, rats hold only Treasurer.

Sec of State and failed 2014 Senate nominee Natalie Tennant goes DOWN as does the rat Ag Commish.

SOB Pig Justice bought the Governorship.
