Newt Gingrich confirms that he's running for President in 2012 because you know he would never backtrack from a statement like this: Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Wednesday he shouldn't have called Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor a racist, but said he was still concerned that she would bring bias to her decisions.

A day after former Newt Gingrich called Donald Trump's latest comments on Judge Gonzalo Curiel "inexcusable," the presumptive Republican nominee fired back at the former House speaker, who has largely been supportive of his candidacy. "As far as Newt is concerned, I saw Newt," Trump told "Fox & Friends" on Monday after the show played clips of Hillary Clinton and Gingrich denouncing his remarks speculating that Curiel's Mexican heritage represented a conflict of interest in the cases against Trump University over which he is presiding. "I was surprised at Newt. I thought it was inappropriate what he said."

I was watching one of the cable news shows recently and Newt was a guest and he said something that stuck with me. Not an exact quote but the main idea of what he said. Ronald Reagan was elected Governor of California in 1966 because Americans watched the (American) flag being burned. Richard Nixon was elected President in 1968 because Americans watched the flag being burned. Donald Trump will be elected President in 2016 because Americans watched the American flag being burned by illegal aliens carrying the Mexican flag.

Bob Dole encouraged fellow Republicans Saturday to back Donald Trump and suggested the presumptive GOP nominee select Newt Gingrich as his running mate. In an interview with CNN's Ana Cabrera, Dole -- the 1996 Republican nominee who said he spoke with Trump last week -- also suggested Trump apologize to Arizona Sen. John McCain and New Mexico Gov. Susanna Martinez for disparaging comments he's made about them in the past. "I have been a Republican all my life," said Dole, who endorsed former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at one point during the 2016 primary fight but has since backed Trump....

Really interesting stuff from National Review's Eliana Johnson, whose latest campaign dispatch sheds light on just how close Newt Gingrich has become with the presumptive Republican nominee -- and how hard the former House Speaker is said to be lobbying behind the scenes for a spot on the ticket. Are you ready for Trump/Gingrich 2016, America? Gingrich has, in effect, launched his own campaign to secure the nomination. “I think Newt is lobbying to be the vice president, and I think their people are paying a lot of attention to him,” says Ed Rollins, a Republican operative and former Gingrich...

Actual quote from Ed Rollins about the fact that a Trump/Gingrich ticket would have six wives between them: “They certainly understand women.” ... Gingrich has a reputation for insinuating himself into campaigns by firing off dozens of e-mails brimming with ideas that range from brilliant to insane. While it’s a quality that has irritated previous presidential candidates such as John McCain and Mitt Romney, sources say that Trump has come to value the former speaker’s opinions. “They talk every day,” says a source familiar with the relationship, who claims that Gingrich e-mails Trump, campaign chairman Paul Manafort, and campaign manager...

As Donald Trump, the eventual GOP presidential nominee, sifts through a handful of potential vice presidential picks, one is rising to the top in Washington and conservative circles: Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. "He does all the things that Trump needs," said a Trump advisor. While in the past it was key for candidates to consider a geographical teaming, with Trump the issue is energizing the Republican voting blocks with a running mate that could also provide savvy counsel once elected. Insiders said that Gingrich's assets are his close ties to conservatives and the pro-life movement and his years as...

With the Democratic and Republican presidential nominees all but decided, attention turned Sunday to the possible contenders for vice president. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said he and his wife, Calista, “could be lured into a new path” if presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump were to ask him to join the ticket. “If he can convince Calista and me that it’s doable and it’s serious and that we would in fact contribute, I think we’d be very hard pressed not to say yes,” Mr. Gingrich said on “Fox News Sunday.”

Newt Gingrich said Friday that "you have to look at it very seriously, of course" regarding the possibility of being presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump's running mate. "I regard Donald as an old friend," Gingrich, the former Georgia representative who was House speaker from 1995 to 1999, told Bill O'Reilly on Fox News... Newsmax reported Tuesday that Gingrich topped Trump's list of possible vice presidential choices. Over the last three months, Trump watchers have noticed that former House speaker and 2012 Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has been consistently advocating on Trump’s behalf in the media, on Capitol Hill, among K Street power brokers, and on social media. In fact, Gingrich has morphed into Trump’s unofficial ambassador for GOP peace and unity, while also seeking converts in hostile territory. Gingrich is the most recognized and respected member of the GOP establishment who is defending the insurgent candidate — even as Trump rails against that same establishment. But now, it has become apparent that Gingrich is waging...

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is now the leading candidate to be tapped by Donald Trump as his running mate, a close confidante of Trump tells Newsmax... Trump is said to favor Gingrich for several reasons. First, Trump recognizes he is a Washington neophyte and sees in Gingrich someone who can school him in the legislative process and “make nice” with Capitol Hill... Trump has other reasons he is leaning toward Gingrich. He is said to personally like him. Rubio, Newsmax reported, has already been eliminated though he lobbied through surrogates for the job. Rubio has denied doing so.

Newt Gingrich has weighed in on the #NeverTrump movement and he has some harsh words for the Republicans that are turning their backs on the party. He specifically addresses The Bushes, and Mitt Romney saying, “Let’s be clear. The Bushes, the Romneys, the Republican party has been pretty darn good to them. And they owe a little bit to that party. And the people who make up that party.” Gingrich told FOX News host Uma Pemmaraju that House Speaker Paul Ryan’s announcement that he is “not ready” to support Donald Trump “probably represents a fairly large block of people who...

“[I]n the case of Paul Ryan he made a big mistake today and he needs to understand this,” Gingrich said. “He is the Speaker of the House. He has an obligation to unify the party. He has an obligation to reach out. Obviously he and Donald Trump are going to have disagreements. Some of them will work out and some of them they won’t. That’s fine. Our constitution provides that speakers and presidents can fight, but I think he sends the wrong signal and a signal which I think endangers the House Republicans and endangers the Senate Republicans.”

With a #NeverTrump hashtag and a growing list of high-profile people and groups declaring that they will never support Donald Trump as the nominee of the Republican Party, the effort to block Trump from winning the nomination is gaining force. But former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Tuesday previewed what he said will be the single most effective argument for strong-arming anti-Trump Republicans back into the fold if he is the nominee. Newt Gingrich on Wednesday marveled at one of Donald Trump's biggest accomplishments in the 2016 race — making Ted Cruz appear normal. The former House speaker predicted that Cruz could be boosted at a contested convention by establishment support, something that would be unthinkable without an even more polarizing figure like Trump in the race. “The challenge is entirely on Trump,” said Gingrich, who has been supportive of Trump. “He is not gonna get any help out of the establishment. They have reluctantly concluded that if, you know — Trump in a funny way has normalized Ted Cruz because without...

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump said he is "95 percent" sure he would pick a veteran politician for vice president if elected. He said he would choose “somebody that can walk into the Senate and who’s been friendly with these guys for 25 years, and people for 25 years and can get things done" in an extensive interview with The Washington Post published Saturday. “So I would 95 percent see myself picking a political person, as opposed to somebody from the outside," he said.
