Growing support for Trump-Gingrich ticket

As Donald Trump, the eventual GOP presidential nominee, sifts through a handful of potential vice presidential picks, one is rising to the top in Washington and conservative circles: Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

"He does all the things that Trump needs," said a Trump advisor.

While in the past it was key for candidates to consider a geographical teaming, with Trump the issue is energizing the Republican voting blocks with a running mate that could also provide savvy counsel once elected.

Insiders said that Gingrich's assets are his close ties to conservatives and the pro-life movement and his years as a lawmaker who as speaker was able to cut deals with then President Bill Clinton on Republican issues like welfare reform and balancing the budget. They also note his strong relationship with marriage activists, though critics will likely pounce on his two divorces.

He has also run for president, in 2012. He won Georgia, his home state, and South Carolina in the primaries and was twice the front runner in the polls. He proved an able debater, also.

Yes, it works. Plus, Christie at Justice, Palin to head RNC, Carson as Surgeon General, Rubio for LGBT outreach, Huckabee for a cabinet post, etc. No room for Cruz. None anywhere. Wouldn’t trust him as mailroom clerk if that was available as a political appointment. Maybe make him ambassador to Haiti or some other h@#* hole.

Sessions for HHS. He might be happier remaining in the senate. Maybe Trump can push to make him Majority Leader and retire McConnell.

Newt will be 73 this year. It makes no sense for Trump to choose someone who will be 81 if Trump manages to : A. Get elected B. Get re-elected. There must be somebody else out there who won’t put the party in the same situation the Dems are in right now with Biden.

Sessions would be an acceptable choice, IMO, of the given list, but there are many others out there that will suffice.

The best thing would be to stay away from long time insiders who are compromised.

Outsider.

I know there are some who think Newt is an insider.. and he is.. but he’s one who would treat Trump as the President and give advice if asked and needed... he’s not intimidated by Trump, but neither would he run over him. Newt would bring a sense of stability to that ticket.. and he knows how to tell the media where to go.. he’s not bashful with the Republicans either. He can bring a crowd to their feet just like Trump can.. and he’s willing to serve with Trump. He’s willing to be VP and not hog the ticket.

I like Gringich, I really do.

Question is: Would Trump be able to make up the 15 to 20 point hit he'll take in the polls by election day if he announces such a pick?

I just dont know, and I voted for Newt in 2012.

Newt has a far better role in other areas, but he certainly has the smarts to be a great VP in a perfect world.

Newt’s big problem is Newt. None of us, including Newt himself, can know whether the Good Newt or the Bad Newt will get out of bed in the morning. Good Newt is great and Bad Newt is terrible. Far better to give him a job like Chief of Staff.

Gingrich brings nothing to the ticket but problems.

Translation: Cannon fodder for the Dems and media.

He was forced to step down as speaker. He basically walked away from his House seat. As speaker, he threw a tantrum because Clinton made him sit at the back of AF-1. He has been the quintessential beltway insider since he left the House.

He only got about 8% in 2012.

For some other administrative appointment, he might be alright. For VP, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
