The Supreme Court on Monday said Congress overstepped its bounds when it tried to force the president's hand in a hot-button dispute over the Middle East. In a 6-3 ruling, the court struck down a 2002 law requiring the State Department to recognize Jerusalem as a part of Israel — over the objections of both the George W. Bush and Obama administrations, which had refused to implement the law. The Supreme Court sided with the executive branch on Monday.

Because of his sad demeanor, people think he’s intelligent. They confuse his dour looks for intelligence. They think somehow if you’re depressed-looking, you’re smart. "

Artnet has confirmed that Emma Sulkowicz, the former Columbia University student known for “Mattress Performance (Carry That Weight),” is behind the website “Ceci N’est Pas Un Viol .” The site hosts an artist’s statement from Sulkowicz, who graduated from Columbia in May of this year, and a video she filmed with director Ted Lawson several months ago over the university’s winter break. The eight-minute video features Sulkowicz and a man, his face blurred, engaging in what appears to be consensual sex that turns violent. The unidentified man open-palm slaps Sulkowicz, chokes her, removes the condom, then continues to have very...

The Boston Globe reports CBS owned WSBK recently started running an interview segment called A Few Good Minutes produced by a local marketing firm and the CBS owned MyNetworkTV station. The first segment aired at the tail end of WSBK’s 10:000 p.m. newscast Thursday night. You can watch the video down below.

On Saturday, Chuck C. Johnson invited his Twitter followers to send some money his way so that he could focus on his latest project: “taking out” the civil rights activist DeRay Mckesson. Johnson is a 26-year-old California man who has been described as “Twitter’s most infamous right-wing troll” (Mother Jones), a “digital Darth Vader” (Politico), “your least favorite person” (the Washington Post), and “mood slime” (the New York Times). He is best known for outing the subject at the center of the discredited Rolling Stone UVA story, publishing the home addresses of New York Times Ferguson reporters Julie Bosman and...

A former Amherst College student has filed a lawsuit claiming he was falsely accused of rape, not given a fair investigation by college officials, and denied justice, even after he presented the college with text messages he said indicated he was innocent. The lawsuit, filed Friday in US District Court in Boston, names the prestigious Western Massachusetts institution as a defendant, as well as a number of college officials. The plaintiff’s name is listed only as “John Doe.” In the fall of his senior year, the suit alleges, he was falsely accused in October 2013 of having committed rape when...
  • Clay Seal May Be Oldest Depiction of Music and Revelry in Israel

An ancient seal unearthed in northern Israel may depict a woman playing a musical instrument during a sacred marriage rite between a king and a goddess. The mysterious seal, which decorates a shard of a 5,000-year-old clay storage vessel, could be the oldest known depiction of a musical performance in Israel, archaeologists say. "This is when most of the cultic impressions from Israel depict dancing figures or the feasting scene in which the female and male figures are shown facing each other, in the rite just before their sexual encounter," the researchers said.

Our friends from Prager University have released another great video. The subject (for Memorial Day): is America the world’s policeman? And if so, is that a good thing, or a bad thing? Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and foreign affairs expert Bret Stephens weighs in: [VIDEO] Let me share my Dutch perspective on this matter: I thank God every day that the United States is the world’s only superpower and that it behaves like an international policeman. Think about it: what’s the alternative? If the United States withdraws, Russia and China will immediately expand their sphere of influence. These countries are ruled...
  • Bulletin warns US analysts overwhelmed by pro-ISIS social media,

U.S. investigators are becoming overwhelmed trying to keep up with the social media barrage by U.S.-based supporters of the Islamic State -- with the latest information suggesting "US military bases, locations, and events could be targeted in the near-term." The warning comes in a new, six-page bulletin obtained exclusively by Fox News. It warns law enforcement and specifically military personnel to be vigilant during upcoming national holidays and military events due to the "heightened threat of attacks by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)." Sent one day before the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the joint bulletin --...

    Washington Post ^ | May 22, 2015 | Michael E. Miller
Hours after the graduation ceremony, posters featuring a photo of Sulkowicz alongside the words “pretty little liar” and the Twitter hashtag #RapeHoax appeared around Columbia’s campus. The large black and white posters were plastered on subway signs and on boarded up buildings, street lights and newspaper kiosks. It’s unclear who is behind the #RapeHoax campaign, but the same people also appear to have started a “Fake Rape” account on Twitter and Flickr (the Flickr account has since been taken down). Neither Sulkowicz nor the unnamed individuals behind the #RapeHoax campaign immediately returned requests for comment made late Thursday night. As...

  • Columbia mattress girl looking to cash in on art project

Emma Sulkowicz, known for carrying a mattress around campus for what she claims is a protest of Columbia University's failure to punish her rapist, is hoping to cash in on her alleged art project. Sulkowicz told the New York Times after her graduation on Tuesday — where she carried her mattress across the stage — that she would sell the mattress if offered. "If some sort of museum wants to buy it, then I'm open to that," she said, "but I'm not going to just throw it away." Sulkowicz has for the past year carried her mattress around for course...

Now, I have learned that after a hearing in late April, Nungesser was found "not responsible" in this latest case—altogether, the fourth time he has been cleared of a sexual assault charge at Columbia. When Sulkowicz first went public a year ago, the fact that her alleged attacker was still on campus and had never been subjected to any formal sanctions despite being accused of sexual assault by three different women helped fuel the outrage. Yet the latest investigation strongly supports Nungesser's claim, made in media interviews and in his lawsuit, that the multiple complaints were not independent of each...
  • Activist Emma Sulkowicz Carries Her Mattress to Columbia University Graduation

Student activist Emma Sulkowicz made headlines last fall, pledging to carry her mattress around Columbia University’s campus until the administration expelled her alleged rapist, Paul Nungesser. That didn’t happen. Tuesday, both students were scheduled to graduate. So Sulkowicz, with the help of her friends, carried her mattress in the processional, continuing her protest. According to The Columbia Daily Spectator, the school’s administration emailed seniors on Monday saying, “Graduates should not bring into the ceremonial area large objects which could interfere with the proceedings or create discomfort to others in close, crowded spaces shared by thousands of people.” Sulkowicz disregarded this...

Leading news services AP and Reuters have issued corrections to reports last Saturday claiming that Pope Francis called Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas an "angel of peace." That translation of the Pope's comments was republished by numerous international news outlets, including Arutz Sheva. But after initial doubts as to the accuracy of the translation ensued, several Italian-language experts confirmed to Arutz Sheva that Francis actually told Abbas that he "may" or "could" be an "angel of peace," in an attempt to persuade him to return to peace talks with Israel. Now the mis-translation has finally been acknowledged, at least partially,...

A new law which went into effect this week encourages the state courts to award equal child custody following divorce or separation. House Bill 35, sponsored by Representative V. Lowry Snow of St. George, combats the outdated family court tradition of awarding sole custody to one parent - usually the mother - about 80 percent of the time. The bill creates amendments for an optional parent-time schedule of 145 overnights, sets holiday schedules and provides for specific elections by the noncustodial parent. The National Parents Organization applauds Utah for being one of the first states int he nation to pass...

The Berkeley Beacon ^ | May 15, 2015 | Ryan Catalani and Dina Kleiner
A federal judge on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit against Emerson filed by Jillian Doherty, a former student who alleges the college mishandled her rape case, and gave her until May 28 to refile her complaint. The judge, Leo T. Sorokin, agreed with the college’s argument that Doherty’s lawsuit does not include sufficient facts for a legal claim. Doherty, 22, said she does intend to edit and resubmit her complaint. “I deserve to be heard and I deserve to be paid for damages and severe emotional distress, among many other claims we will again make,” she wrote in statement to the...
