Last June, World Vision U.S president Richard Stearns stated that, “No one ever died of gay marriage,” thereby trivializing the importance of the issue, as if it contrasted with the organization’s mission of providing tangible relief to suffering humanity. Today, he went much further, claiming that this radical, unbiblical move is actually a “very narrow policy change” that should be viewed as “symbolic not of compromise but of [Christian] unity.” What? World Vision redefines the nature of marriage – the most fundamental institution of society, ordained by God in Genesis 2 as the lifelong union of a man and a...

World Vision's American branch will no longer require its more than 1,100 employees to restrict their sexual activity to marriage between one man and one woman. Abstinence outside of marriage remains a rule. But a policy change announced Monday [March 24] will now permit gay Christians in legal same-sex marriages to be employed at one of America's largest Christian charities. In an exclusive interview, World Vision U.S. president Richard Stearns explained to Christianity Today the rationale behind changing this "condition of employment," whether financial or legal pressures were involved, and whether other Christian organizations with faith-based hiring rules should follow...

It is truly a Hollywood epic of biblical proportions, the original disaster story of the man chosen by God to undertake the greatest rescue in history before an apocalyptic flood engulfs the world. But even before it opens in America this week and Britain on April 4, Noah, a $130 million blockbuster with Russell Crowe in the lead role, is already awash in a turbulent sea of controversy. The film, packed with special effects based around a massive replica arc built in Long Island near New York, also stars Sir Anthony Hopkins as Methuselah and Emma Watson, the Harry Potter...

THE HAGUE, March 24./ITAR-TASS/. Ukrainian crisis has not adversely affected bilateral relations between Finland and Russia, Finland’s President Sauli Niinisto said in The Hague on Monday. Helsinki traditionally maintained friendly relations with Moscow, Niinisto said adding he intended to continue bilateral meetings with Russia if it was in Finland’s interests, though last week's EU summit recommended that EU members cancel such meetings. Niinisto also pointed out the importance of continued negotiations to avert a deeper crisis in Ukraine.

MOSCOW, March 24. /ITAR-TASS/. The leader of the Russian United Democratic Party Yabloko (Apple), Sergei Mitrokhin, urges the West to refrain from double standards and take note of some unacceptable aspects of Ukraine’s domestic policy, such as discrimination against ethnic minorities, Mitrokhin said in an official speech published on Monday. The speech was prepared for a panel meeting on the prospects for Russia, Ukraine, Europe today and tomorrow, which was held in Vienna on March 29. Despite the fact that Russian authorities criticized the statement, Mitrokhin claimed that a violent regime change was extremely dangerous. “The events in Ukraine have...

...As a practicing Catholic, I began my career in local TV newsrooms where I quickly learned...religious beliefs are something you keep to yourself. ...I never thought that wearing a cross necklace would be considered “flashy.” The first time I wore one to work, I was told to take it off because it would be distracting to the audience. I wanted to keep my TV job so much; I did it. It didn’t seem to matter to management that I wasn’t covering religion. While putting the cross -- given to me by my parents -- in my purse, I told myself...

Let’s talk about leggings, shall we? They’re a controversial topic all across America. Now the debate’s landed in Evanston, Illinois, at Haven Middle School. I think I’ve heard most arguments about leggings: They’re too distracting to the boys. Inappropriate. Unbecoming. They create a lustful atmosphere infecting society and are, in some countries, considered illegal. And while I particularly love this Utah mom’s approach to lighten the mood, I doubt this writer smiled as she wrote about the controversy. Earlier this week, I learned that Haven Middle School students are planning a protest against a ban on leggings. A Haven parent...

Gov. Perry may have a new look, yuppie glasses and all, but it is still business as usual in Austin. Last year, we showed numerous examples of cronyism, specifically the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF), where hundreds of millions of Texans’ tax dollars were being given to multi-billion companies and in turn were giving millions in campaign contributions to Gov. Perry, Lt. Gov. Dewhurst, and House Speaker Straus (the three controls the TEF). Despite a law being passed in 2013 to audit the fund, our report on the issue, and numerous media outlets covering the controversy, the fund still remains in...

Water levels in the Great Lakes are expected to continue a steady recovery this year, courtesy of widespread ice cover that is slowing evaporation and snowfall that has approached record amounts in some cities, federal experts said Wednesday. The siege of polar air that has gripped the region this winter has caused the most extensive freeze-over of the lakes since the record-setting year of 1979, when nearly 95 percent of their surface area solidified. On Tuesday, the ice cover reached its highest point since then - 91 percent, said George Leshkevich, a physical scientist with the federal Great Lakes Environmental...
