SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The U.S. government has picked a Google subsidiary to run and renovate a federal airfield that is frequently used for the personal flights of the Internet company's billionaire executives. The decision announced Monday clears the way for Google's Planetary Ventures LLC to take over management of the 1,000-acre Moffett Federal Airfield, a former U.S. Navy based 4 miles from Google's Mountain View, Calif., headquarters. Moscow police say a student burst into a high school Monday with a rifle and fatally shot a police officer and a teacher before briefly taking a class full of children hostage. Investigators told the Associated Press that the student had been taken into custody alive. MINNEAPOLIS -- A man has been charged in an assault that left an 18-month-old child with with a brain injury and a severely fractured skull. Officials charged Hussein Osman Birre, 23, with Assault in the First Degree and Domestic Assault after police were called to his home on the 5700 block of Sander Drive on Jan. 25 on a report of a domestic dispute. Authorities say when they arrived, Birre tried to keep officers from entering the home. After forcing their way inside, police say they found Birre's 18-month-old daughter lying on her back, wheezing and barely responsive.

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. - A 7-year-old girl at Thomas Claggett Elementary School in District Heights, Md., was beaten unconscious by at least four classmates Tuesday morning. It happened during recess in the school’s gymnasium. The little girl’s parents say their daughter was taken by ambulance to Children's Hospital in D.C. She was diagnosed with a mild concussion.
