BYRDSTOWN, Tenn. (WZTV) — After an eaglet was seen entangled in a fishing line at a reservoir on the Kentucky-Tennessee line, rescue is on the way. The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) was made aware of the eaglets in distress Saturday by FOX 17 News, and multiple agencies have planned an intervention. Due to federal laws preventing disturbance of eaglets in their nest, any attempt to help the eaglets must have federal permitting to occur, which a TWRA spokesperson confirmed has happened. A professional tree climber and arborist will now work to remove the fishing line and evaluate...

Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects group first unveiled Soli in 2015, but it did not launch on a consumer device until 2019. The sensor lets you perform air gestures over the Pixel 4 to play/pause and skip/rewind tracks, as well as snooze alarms and silence phone calls. It’s also used to speed up face unlock by detecting when users reach for their phone and turning on the components needed for recognition. Third-party Android developers can incorporate the tech, which emits radar waves, into games and other interactive experiences. Meanwhile, the new Nest Thermostat also leverages it for improved motion sensing...

Margaret Cudia thought her Ring doorbell camera was "the best thing since sliced bread." She loved watching the world pass by through her suburban New Jersey neighborhood, guarding vigilantly for suspicious strangers and porch pirates from the comfort of her phone. She hadn't expected the camera also might capture awkward moments closer to home, like the time it caught her daughter grabbing a beer and talking about how controlling her mother was. "I never told her about that one," she said with a laugh. Amazon's Ring, Google's Nest and other Internet-connected cameras - some selling for as little as $59...

Shortly after midnight on New Year’s Eve, as America’s party city was celebrating the arrival of 2020, a desperate woman on a suburban Las Vegas street leapt out of the back door of a white Hyundai Sonata with a sunroof, and ran toward a front door, chased by the driver of the car. As she charged up the sidewalk, she must have known the chances of anyone being at home at this time, on this night, were vanishingly small. The woman must have felt utterly abandoned as she banged on that door, screaming for help, but no one came to...

In early February, Google announced that its home security and alarm system Nest Secure would be getting an update. Users, the company said, could now enable its virtual-assistant technology, Google Assistant. The problem: Nest users didn't know a microphone existed on their security device to begin with. The existence of a microphone on the Nest Guard, which is the alarm, keypad, and motion-sensor component in the Nest Secure offering, was never disclosed in any of the product material for the device.

An Illinois couple said a hacker spoke to their baby through one of their Nest security cameras and then later hurled obscenities at them, CBS station WBBM-TV reports. Arjun Sud told the station he was outside his 7-month-old son's room Sunday outside Chicago and he heard someone talking. ~snip~ The voice was coming from another of the many Nest cameras throughout the couple's Lake Barrington house. "Asking me, you know, why I'm looking at him — because he saw obviously that I was looking back — and continuing to taunt me," Sud said. The hacker hurled obscenities at them, including...

ORINDA — Laura Lyons was preparing food in her kitchen Sunday when the lazy afternoon took a turn for the absurd. A loud squawking — similar to the beginning of an emergency broadcast alert — blasted from the living room, the Orinda mother said, followed by a detailed warning of three North Korean intercontinental ballistic missiles headed to Los Angeles, Chicago and Ohio. “It warned that the United States had retaliated against Pyongyang and that people in the affected areas had three hours to evacuate,” Lyons said Monday. “It sounded completely legit, and it was loud and got our attention...

In sea mariner lore, an albatross is considered a good omen, and for almost seven decades, one bird has spread generations of blessings across the Pacific Ocean. Wisdom, a 68-year-old Laysan albatross believed to be the world’s oldest known wild bird, has returned to her home at the Midway Atoll national wildlife refuge for yet another winter – and laid yet another egg to add to the already impressive brood that she has built up over an impressive lifetime. Biologists with the US Fish and Wildlife Service think the almost-septuagenarian has birthed and raised as many as 36 chicks over...

In a report published to the site Freedom to Tinker and presented at the recent PrivacyCon conference, researchers at Princeton University detail how they detected that Nest's popular thermostat, among other web-connected devices, was transmitting data unencrypted, so in theory, online hackers could have intercepted that private information if they were looking in the right place. However, the issue stemmed from a weather update containing location information of the home and local weather stations, Nest told Mashable. Sensitive information such as home addresses was already encrypted, but the data collected from local weather stations was not. ... When setting up...

A software bug that caused Nest's smart thermostat to stop working has left many users both cold and angry. Some of those affected took to Nest's own forum and social media to vent their anger about the problem. Nest said that it was aware of the issue and that it had been fixed for "99.5%" of users. It recommended that, for those still experiencing problems "performing a manual reset should help". It also published a nine-step fix. "We are aware of a software bug impacting some Nest Thermostat owners. In some cases, this may cause the device to respond slowly...

There is a place where the State of Israel is incessantly vilified, its leaders maligned, and its policies continuously criticized by Arabs and their third world and Western cohorts. Any attempt to defend Israel is immediately quashed by hordes of Jihadists and like-minded anti-Semites. Israel’s defenders are subjected to censorship while its most virulent detractors are afforded the podium to blather about this or that “atrocity” committed by Israel in defense of its citizenry. It’s a place where truth gives way to vitriolic, blood curdling Israel bashing. If you think I’m talking about the United Nations Human Rights Counsel or...

The smaller herons and egrets are just getting started, the stork and great egret chicks are growing like crazy.
