  • Say no to porn. Boycott 50 Shades of Grey, the movie: sign the petition

Background: Hollywood executives have chosen to release the film version of the "erotic" novel 50 Shades of Grey in theaters this Valentine's Day - Feb. 14, 2015. While the marketing campaign is selling the movie as a "romance," there is nothing authentically romantic about the tale of a sado-masochistic sexual relationship between a young, vulnerable student, Anastasia, and an older billionaire, Christian Grey. Critics have described the book as misogynistic, pornographic, exploitative, sexually violent, and anti-romance – and there is little reason to expect the film will be anything different. Opposition to the book and movie crosses the ideological spectrum,...
  • Why “American Sniper” Was Politicized -- And Why it Shouldn’t Be

Do you support the war on Terror and, more specifically, the war in Iraq? How do you feel about snipers and the plight of the American soldier? On a more personal note, what are your thoughts on Chris Kyle, reportedly the deadliest sniper in U.S. military history? Those three questions are valid and open for debate. Unfortunately, though, all three have become remarkably intertwined in the debate over the quality of the new film American Sniper. Last Friday, the Clint Eastwood-helmed film American Sniper arrived in theaters banking over a hundred million dollars. Many conservatives embraced the film while...

Hollywood’s War Against American SniperPosted By Daniel Greenfield On January 22, 2015 @ 12:50 am In Daily Mailer,FrontPage | 8 Comments American Sniper is the movie that should not have existed. Even though the book was a bestseller, nobody in Hollywood wanted the rights. And why would they? The Iraq War already had an official narrative in Hollywood. It was bad and wrong. Its veterans were crippled, dysfunctional and dangerous. Before American Sniper, Warner Brothers had gone with anti-war flicks like Body of Lies and In the Valley of Elah. It had lost a fortune on Body of Lies; but losing money had never stopped Hollywood from making anti-war movies that no...

I hate whining. Ironically, when I was asked to write about the Oscar "whiteout," I was in a planning meeting for the NAACP Image Awards. For those who don't know, the NAACP created the Image Awards almost 50 years ago in response to the lack of recognition of black talent in front of and behind the camera in mainstream (white) awards shows. You'd think this show wouldn't be needed by now, but that's clearly not the case.

On Martin Luther King Day, 2015, how stand race relations in America? Selma, a film focused on the police clubbing of civil rights marchers led by Dr. King at Selma bridge in March of 1965, is being denounced by Democrats as a cinematic slander against the president who passed the Voting Rights Act of 1965. In the movie, King is portrayed as decisive and heroic, LBJ as devious and dilatory. And no member of the Selma cast has been nominated for an Academy Award. All 20 of the actors and actresses nominated are white. Hollywood is like the Rocky Mountains,...

Glenn Beck watched Selma and believes he knows why the critically-acclaimed civil rights film was snubbed by the Academy in multiple Oscar categories next week: progressivism. And if you haven’t seen the film, here’s the spoiler-free explanation of how LBJ is portrayed: like a politician.

Billy Crystal Has Had Enough of Gay Storylines Billy Crystal, comedian and one of the first actors to portray a gay character on TV, has had enough of the gay storylines on television.Speaking to an audience at the Television Critics Association press tour, Crystal said: “Sometimes I think, ‘Ah that’s too much for me.’”The comedian played Jodie on Soap from 1977-1981. “It was very difficult at the time,” said Crystal. “Jodie was really the first recurring [gay] character on network television and it was a different time, it was 1977. So, yeah, it was awkward. It was tough.” He spoke...

Hoooo boy. Billy Crystal has angered plenty with some poorly-worded statements he made about the portrayal of gay sex scenes on television. According to The Independent, during a panel on the Television Critics Association this weekend promoting his upcoming FX series The Comedians, Crystal said he can do without all the gratuitous P-in-the-B scenes that TV keeps shoving in his face: Speaking during a panel interview in Pasadena, the actor said: “Sometimes I think: ‘Ah that’s too much for me’. “Sometimes, it’s just pushing it a little too far for my taste and I’m not going to reveal to you...

I must admit to experiencing schadenfreude (feeling pleasure from the misfortunes of others) upon learning that Oprah's movie Selma was snubbed by the Oscars, receiving only two nominations. As a black conservative Tea Party activist, I knew that the movie was simply another propaganda tool for the Democratic Party and America-hating leftists – a part of their ongoing hideous campaign promoting the lie that America sucks and blacks are still victims of an eternally racist country.  Sure enough, as I predicted, the usual suspects who produced Selma are being criticized for blatantly rewriting history. Using my 1970s heyday lingo,...

I WENT Friday morning to see “Selma” and found myself watching it in a theater full of black teenagers. Thanks to donations, D.C. public school kids got free tickets to the first Hollywood movie about the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on his birthday weekend — an effort that was duplicated for students around the country. The kids did plenty of talking and texting, and plenty of fighting over whether there was too much talking and texting. Slowly but surely, though, the crowd was drawn in by the Scheherazade skills of the “Selma” director, Ava DuVernay. The horrific scene...

But Academy members seem to be paying attention to the criticism that Eastwood and star/producer Bradley Cooper shouldn’t be celebrating a man who wrote that killing hundreds of Iraqis was “fun.” “He seems like he may be a sociopath,” one Academy member told TheWrap, adding he had not yet seen the film but had read the article, which is being passed around. Neither distributor Warner Bros. nor the filmmakers have responded to TheWrap’s request for comment, though the studio said they intended to make someone available. A piece in The Guardian by author Lindy West was an early critic of...

Angry liberals have taken to social media to declare that if you like the movie American Sniper over the movie Selma, you are a racist. The comments have come on the heels of an extremely successful opening weekend for American Sniper, which has received favorable reviews from critics, and has gained considerable buzz for its tense trailer. Selma, which also has received favorable reviews from critics, but also criticism for inaccurately portraying major characters, is not doing nearly as well at the box office. Liberals on social media have decided that the trailer, controversy, and merit are not why American...

and i don't say that lightly. Patton, Gettysburgh, Das Boot, Run Silent Run Deep, Fury, and on and on. But Sniper is absolutely riveting in its portrayal of combat and the people in combat, i can't say more, except that when the movie ended in a packed theatre, a few people, me included, were drying eyes, but the theatre was absolutely silent and stayed that way. no one moved for a while then the whole theatre silently filed out.

LOS ANGELES – In November, the Hollywood Reporter quoted an anonymous industry insider predicting that the “lefty crowd isn’t going to gather around a Navy SEAL best known for killing people” when it comes Oscar time. The insider was talking about "American Sniper," which walked away with six Academy Award nominations on Thursday, including Best Picture. Which means the insider was wrong. “Big surprise of #Oscarnoms was Clint Eastwood’s ‘American Sniper,’” wrote the Wall Street Journal. “I was very surprised and pleasantly so,” said James Williamson, retired U.S. Special Forces colonel and co-founder of OPSEC, a non-profit organization that seeks...
