Say no to porn. Boycott 50 Shades of Grey, the movie: sign the petition

Background:

Hollywood executives have chosen to release the film version of the "erotic" novel 50 Shades of Grey in theaters this Valentine's Day - Feb. 14, 2015.

While the marketing campaign is selling the movie as a "romance," there is nothing authentically romantic about the tale of a sado-masochistic sexual relationship between a young, vulnerable student, Anastasia, and an older billionaire, Christian Grey.

Critics have described the book as misogynistic, pornographic, exploitative, sexually violent, and anti-romance – and there is little reason to expect the film will be anything different.

Opposition to the book and movie crosses the ideological spectrum, with many feminists expressing grave concerns about the messages the book is sending to young men and women. One post on the leading feminist website Jezebel slammed the book (and by extension, the movie) as "50 Shades of Abuse."

Marketing for the film is already in full swing, and little concern is being given to the influence that the positive and pornographic portrayal of sadism is having on teenagers and others.

While undoubtedly many people will flock to see the film what it is released, there is a growing movement opposing both the films and the book.

This upcoming Valentine’s Day, join this movement by pledging to take stand for true love and true romance. Together, let's make 50 Shades the worst box-office flop in history.

Sign this petition, and then share it with your friends and family.

Had no intent of seeing it anyway. Movies these days are expensive and most are not worth it.

Having seen the trailer for it, it looks like it is the worst thing a film can be... utterly boring.

A Christian or conservative boycott is exactly what the producers hope for. The movie won't be "outrageous". It will be boring and embarrassing. There won't be anything remotely "erotic" about it.

I hope that many theaters refuse to play it. It belongs in the “other” room at the video store.

I think you're probably correct.

This is censorship at its finest. What books are you looking to burn on the next day.

This is simple, if you don't like it do not pay your money to go. The one and only thing you are doing here is promoting this movie by giving the title and fact that it is coming out.

If you are so easily offended, change channel, or stay home. No religion, not yours or Islam, nor race or fem cards will tell me what to watch or read. Is that clear enough for you?

Freedom is a part of our constitution that you may want to review. You may start with the first amendment. It protects your right to post pro censorship posts here but it also insures that the makers of this film have a right to make i, promote i, and to sell their product.

I am all for your rights, theirs, and mine. That is where we do not agree. You value only your own rights. Go away.

To me, the great majority of films are pornographic so I don’t patronize any of them.

Does having absolutely no interest whatsoever in “50 Shades of Gray”; not caring one whit about it - either the book or the movie or the tv show or the whatever - count as boycotting it?

"Many people feel that censorship is a violation of Freedom of Speech. Bull feathers!

Censorship is NOT unconstitutional. Censors have the right to censor what you hear. The Bill of Rights says nothing about Freedom of Hearing. This, of course, takes a lot of the fun out of the Freedom of Speech. Ha ha ha....

....There is nothing in the Bill of Rights about Freedom of Seeing. You can look for it, but if you see it, you'd better not show it to anybody. Therefore, censorship does not interfere with the constitutional right of every American to sit alone, in the dark, in the nude, and cuss."

“Boycotts are not censorship.”

True that! Censorship says it can’t be shown. Boycotts says “go ahead and show it but I’m not paying my good money to see or support trash”.

I suspect this movie is an awful mess without any help.

ANY “boycott” or protest will just help it make more money.
