Most locals concede that getting anything of substance accomplished in Boston is a Herculean task. Residents have all but embraced the principle of civic inaction with a perverse kind of local pride. In the end, who you know is probably more important than what you are trying to do. And there is no doubt that little is accomplished without the approval and support of the mayor, Thomas M. Menino. So it is with the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center (ISBCC) near the intersection of Tremont Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard. Better known as the Roxbury mosque, the ISBCC...

An attorney and human rights activist in Egypt says a mosque in Cairo has installed a torture chamber, and it is being used to terrorize Christians and others there. The report comes from Egyptian Coptic Christian attorney and human rights activist Wagih Yacoub, who said the Bilal ibn Rabah mosque in the Cairo suburb of Moqattam serves as a Muslim Brotherhood-approved torture chamber. The Muslim Brotherhood virtually has taken over Egypt since its candidate, Mohammed Morsi, was elected president after the ouster of former President Hosni Mubarak. Yacoub says his friend, Amir Ayad, was the victim of the torture after...

One of the most important monuments of late Byzantium, the 13th-century Church of Hagia Sophia in the Black Sea city of Trabzon, which is now a museum, will be converted into a mosque, after a legal battle that has dramatic implications for other major historical sites in Turkey. Many in Turkey believe that the Church of Hagia Sophia is a stalking horse for the possible re-conversion of its more famous namesake in Istanbul, the Hagia Sophia Museum (Ayasofya Müzesi). For around 50 years, responsibility for the Church of Hagia Sophia in Trabzon has rested with Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and...

The Palestine Scholars Association, a radical Islamic body in the Palestinian territories, issued a fatwa on Wednesday banning foreign Muslims from visiting the Temple Mount as long as Jerusalem is under Israeli control. Dr. Maher al-Huli, head of the fatwa department in the PSA, said that non-Palestinian Muslims should refrain from visiting the Al-Aksa Mosque “while it remains captive by the state of the Jews.” He said in a fatwa that Muslims were instead entrusted by God with “liberating and saving the mosque from the Jewish usurpers and restoring it to the glory of Muslims.” The fatwa came in response...

Those convicted Friday include 40-year-old Mohamed Mohamed Mohamud, who prosecutors said used his connections as a popular imam at a mosque in San Diego's City Heights neighborhood to raise money for the group. The other defendants were two San Diego taxi drivers, 36-year-old Basaaly Saeed Moalin and 56-year-old Issa Doreh, and 37-year-old Ahmed Nasir Taalil Mohamud of Anaheim, whose financial transfer business Shidaal Express was used to route the money, prosecutors said. Trying to downplay what came out of Imam Shaker's mouth. His comments on the Western World makes one wonder why he lives in the West. He also mentions that every Muslim should memorize the Quran, or if they can't, Muslims should keep it in their pocket...... I wonder if he ever encourages Muslims to keep the US Constitution in their pocket? I do encourage everyone to watch the entire video, but I understand that not everyone has the patience that I have. That is the reason for this edit, as the average person will not watch a video longer than...

The imam and former spiritual leader of an Islamic community center and mosque near ground zero is accused in a new lawsuit of defrauding donors to his nonprofit organizations of millions of dollars, using the money for personal real estate, lavish trips and a luxury sports car. Mosque Makeovers With Your Tax Dollars WASHINGTON, D.C — A Channel 2 Action News investigation found that the State Department is sending millions of dollars to save mosques overseas. This investment has received criticism as the United States makes an effort to slash nearly $4 trillion in government spending. Plenty of outrage following the announcement made Thursday afternoon by a government commission that suggested huge cuts to the budget, including eliminating the interest education for home mortgage. This juxtaposed with United States investing millions to refurbish mosques as a good-will effort in Muslim countries has upset many taxpayer groups. Watch...

In 2007, President George W. Bush spoke at the Islamic Center of Washington, D.C. and was introduced by the mosque’s director; the latter had a history that included time spent as a representative of an organization that has enabled Al-Qaeda. This was also the same mosque at which Bush spoke six days after 9/11/01 with Nihad Awad – Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) – at his side. Before delving into the history of the Islamic Center of Washington of Washington, D.C., consider the Ground Zero mosque for a moment. It was named ‘Cordoba House’ and the...

The largest mosque in Australia posted a Facebook “fatwa” against Christmas — warning followers that it’s a “sin” even to wish people a Merry Christmas — before taking it down, the Sydney Morning Herald reported. The ruling, posted Saturday by the Lakemba Mosque in Sydney, said the “disbelievers are trying to draw Muslims away from the straight path” and that “a Muslim is neither allowed to celebrate the Christmas Day nor is he allowed to congratulate [Christians].” It went up following a sermon from the mosque’s head imam against participating in any Christmas-related activities. On wishing people a Merry Christmas,...

A news roundup from today’s Sydney Morning Herald, giving another bracing insight into the success of our immigration program. Item one: When two men in traditional Middle Eastern dress sat down with the owner of a Bankstown restaurant recently, they were after only one thing. At first they shared a hookah pipe and chatted amiably about religion, but the conversation quickly turned to extortion: they wanted $50,000 in exchange for ‘’protection’’. The terrified restaurant owner told Fairfax Media they asked him a menacing question he was sure was rhetoric: ‘’Have you heard of Brothers 4 Life?’’ It’s a question many...
