The two top officials overseeing Milwaukee's host committee for the 2020 Democratic National Convention were sidelined Monday amid allegations of a toxic work culture. In a letter to staff obtained by the Journal Sentinel, the board said it had retained an attorney to investigate "concerns about the work environment" for the Milwaukee 2020 Host Committee. During the investigation, Liz Gilbert, president of the host committee, will not be in the office and "will not have direct contact with staff," the letter says. Officers with the Milwaukee Police Department said they're searching for the driver of a white Toyota who shot a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy over the weekend. The children were throwing snowballs at passing cars along with several other kids when they were wounded on Saturday night. MILWAUKEE (AP) — An officer shot an armed male student Monday morning in a classroom at a suburban Milwaukee high school after the suspect pointed a gun at officers, a police chief said. A Waukesha South High School student informed a school resource officer that a classmate had a handgun at around 10:17 a.m., Waukesha Police Chief Russell Jack said. A 42-year-old man suffered second-degree burns after an unknown suspect threw acid on him during an altercation. Investigators say that an argument broke out between two people in the 2600 block of S. 13th Street about 8:30 p.m. Friday. The fight escalated when the victim, 42-year-old Mahud V, had acid thrown at him causing serious injuries. Mahud says that the acid burned through two layers of his coat. "I don't know the guy. A Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) driver was hailed a hero for helping save people from a burning building. MCTS driver Chanaye Brown was honored on Thursday, Oct. 10 for stepping in when help was needed.
