Black Lives Matter agitators aren’t just anti-police. They don’t really care about anyone else, either. As protesters blocked a highway in Memphis, Tennessee, over the weekend, a family transporting a “very sick” baby got stuck in traffic on a bridge near downtown. “We received a call there was a child needing medical attention stuck in traffic up on the bridge and due to the protest going on the bridge, the family was not able to get through traffic to get him to Le Bonheur (Children’s Hospital),” paramedic Bobby Harrell tells WISTV.
  • FBI warns of Islamic State threat to Mississippi River bridge

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The FBI has warned local authorities of a threat that Islamic State militants would blow up the Memphis & Arkansas Bridge spanning the Mississippi River, an agency spokesman said on Tuesday. The bridge is a major route connecting Tennessee and Arkansas. The Federal Bureau of Investigation passed the threat on to local police in a bulletin out of an "abundance of caution," spokesman Chris Allen said. "This is an unsubstantiated, anonymous threat," he said, adding that there was no useful intelligence arising from it. Allen had no details on when the threat was received or how. The...

Deadly officer-involved shootings of two black men, one in Louisiana and another in Minnesota, have the attention of the country and that of the Black Lives Matter movement. Sunday night, a group here in Memphis marched across the city and onto the I-40 bridge. It started as a peaceful rally at FedExForum with hundreds of people. After rallying at FedExForum, the crowd marched to police headquarters at 201 Poplar and then continued on, with more people joining them as they went on. The marchers attempted to go to the I-40 bridge, but police blocked the entrance to the bridge. They...

Getting through the line at the TSA can be a long and uncomfortable process. For one Chattanooga teen and her mother, the process turned into a scary nightmare. 19-year-old Hannah Cohen was returning home from St. Jude's Hospital with her mother for treatment of her brain tumor (a trip they had made for 17 years), when Hannah somehow set off the metal detector at the security checkpoint. TSA wanted to do a further scan on Hannah, but she was reluctant. Hannah's mother, Shirley Cohen, tried to inform the agents that her daughter was disabled. She is partially deaf and blind...

Hannah Cohen, a young disabled woman whose mother describes as “partially deaf, blind in one eye, paralyzed and easily confused,” was beaten by Transportation Security Agents (TSA) after her flight home. The young woman was then led from the Memphis International Airport, beaten, bloodied, bruised, and in handcuffs — and then booked into jail. Cohen was returning home to Chattanooga after receiving treatment for her brain tumor at St. Jude’s Hospital. During a May 14 commencement address to Old Miss graduates, retired news anchor and journalist Tom Brokaw said, “more guns … will mean more homegrown acts of terror.” Tom Brokaw lamented the continuing expansion of gun ownership and the success of gun rights organizations that support that expansion. According to The Commercial Appeal, Brokaw referenced the homicide rate in Democrat-run Memphis, Tennessee, then said: I’m appalled by the determination of organizations and individuals to arm more people without any appreciation of the consequence of evermore lethal weapons in our midst. More guns and more firearm tolerance will mean more homegrown...

The Gibson Guitar saga has taken a sinister turn. It seems that the Department of Justice wasn’t satisfied with merely raiding the law abiding factories of Gibson Guitar with armed agents, shutting down their operation costing them millions, and leaving the American company in the dark as to how to proceed without going out of business. Now, according to CEO Henry Juszkiewicz, agents of the United States government are bluntly informing them that they’d be better off shipping their manufacturing labor overseas.

t was seven months ago that federal agents with guns drawn raided the Gibson guitar factories in Nashville and Memphis. A half million dollars worth of Indian rosewood and ebony was seized under the premise that it had been imported illegally. The feds also took a number of guitars and computer hard drives. The factory was shut down for the day and employees told to go home. Yet after all this time, the Department of Justice has shown no sign that it will file criminal charges against Gibson. What’s more – it has been almost 3 years since federal agents...

IRS Scandal: The inexplicable raid nearly two years ago on a guitar maker for using allegedly illegal wood that its competitors also used was another targeting by this administration of its political enemies. On Aug. 24, 2011, federal agents executed four search warrants on Gibson Guitar Corp. facilities in Nashville and Memphis, Tenn., and seized several pallets of wood, electronic files and guitars. One of the top makers of acoustic and electric guitars, including the iconic Les Paul introduced in 1952, Gibson was accused of using wood illegally obtained in violation of the century-old Lacey Act, which outlaws trafficking in...

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A Memphis community is considering turning to guns in order to take back their neighborhood against crime. The Raleigh area held a meeting last week, and one neighborhood association wants to make sure residents are knowledgeable about gun safety and carry permits. "I've been here 11 years and I see it slowly just deteriorating, crimes coming here," said Reginald Reynolds. For Reynolds, what appears to be more crime in his neighborhood is enough for him to pack up and move out. "We're moving out of here in another year or two," said Reynolds.

Tennessee's rule factory is cranking at full tilt, and Nashville lawmakers want to tell Memphians how to pay for bike lanes, what monuments we can move, and whether or not we can own skunks (seriously). No gas tax for bike lanes A new bill would prohibit spending any gas tax revenues on bike lanes, pedestrian walkways, and "other non-vehicular facilities." Portions of the state gas tax are required to go to cities and counties. Those governments sometimes use the gas tax funds for matching dollars to get federal money for bike and pedestrian projects. The new bill says all of...

About 60 drawings and hieroglyphic inscriptions, dating back around 5,000 years, have been discovered at a site called Wadi Ameyra in Egypt’s Sinai Desert. Carved in stone they were created by mining expeditions sent out by early Egyptian pharaohs archaeologists say. They reveal new information on the early pharaohs. For instance, one inscription the researchers found tells of a queen named Neith-Hotep who ruled Egypt 5,000 years ago as regent to a young pharaoh named Djer. Archaeologists estimate that the earliest carvings at Wadi Ameyra date back around 5,200 years, while the most recent date to the reign of a...

Throughout 2015, we kept hearing warnings that wealthy individuals would dominate the presidential election, and perhaps even influence the outcome, all because of court-made changes in campaign-finance law that allowed unlimited contributions and spending. So why did Big Money in politics end up to be a big bust in 2015? Super PACs -- political action committees that can accept unlimited amounts from just about anyone but can't coordinate with the candidate -- have been spending money, yet have little to show for it. Other dark-money sources -- essentially nonprofit social-welfare groups that don't have to disclose their donors -- had...

Some critics claim she changed her voice Hillary Clinton has been accused of putting on a southern accent during a campaign stop in Memphis. During a speech at LeMoyne-Owen College earlier this week, some people claimed the Democratic presidential candidate's voice had something of a southern twang.
