Conservatives took the high road this weekend and boy don’t they feel good about themselves. When MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry gave an emotional preemptive on-air apology Saturday morning to Mitt Romney in advance of his appearance on Fox News Sunday for a segment last weekend using a Christmas family photo that included the Romney family’s recently adopted black infant, conservatives rushed to Twitter to congratulate themselves for quickly accepting an apology that wasn’t meant for them. Harris-Perry apologized, as she should have, for using a child for a political attack and for hurting the feelings of mixed-race adoptive families. What...

On Saturday, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry offered an emotional, tearful apology for a New Year’s weekend segment that used Kieran Romney‘s appearance in a Romney family photo as a setup for jokes about diversity, and became a full-blown media conflagration. On Sunday, former Governor Mitt Romney appeared on Fox News Sunday to address the controversy, which host Chris Wallace called “a disgraceful political attack on a baby.” Last Sunday, Melissa Harris-Perry moderated a panel that set upon a Romney family photo as the pivot point for jokes about Republican lack of diversity. Harris-Perry’s own remarks were relatively innocuous, but panelist...

One of the peripheral aspects of the already-tangential Kierangate media kerfuffle over a Melissa Harris-Perry show segment is the host’s Twitter apology, specifically Harris-Perry’s invocation of her own Mormon background. A review of Melissa Harris-Perry‘s past commentary about Mormonism reveals an apparently genuine affection and admiration for her ancestors’ religion, as well as something of a blind spot for the Mormon Church’s history of racially discriminatory policies. As part of her apology, Harris-Perry tweeted “As black child born into large white Mormon family I feel familiarity w/ Romney family pic & never meant to suggest otherwise,” apparently as a way...

Mitt Romney appeared on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace this morning to discuss several topics, including the story that first broke on The Right Scoop, the segment on Melissa Harris-Perry's show last weekend featuring a Romney family photo. [VIDEO NOT EMBEDDABLE] ROMNEY: Well first let me just note, Chris, that we love this little guy a great deal. He was an answer to prayer and we love that he is a part of our family. He is part of our family. That being said, I recognize that people make mistakes and the folks at MSNBC made a big mistake,...

As NewsBusters previously reported, MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry and a panel of comedians last weekend senselessly mocked a picture of former Governor Mitt Romney’s family because it included his adopted black grandson. Although she’s already apologized on Twitter, Harris-Perry began her show Saturday with a heartfelt apology much of the time fighting through a lump in her throat and tears (video follows with transcript and commentary):

After being chastised by Sarah Palin, defender of Phil Roberton's homophobic and racist remarks, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry is now apologizing for joking that Mitt Romney's grandchild might marry Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's daughter. “As black child born into a large white Mormon family I feel familiarity w/ Romney family pic & never meant to suggest otherwise," Perry said over Twitter. "I apologize to all families built on loving transracial adoptions who feel I degraded their lives or choices," she added. Perry was the target of Palin's, RNC chair Reine Priebus's, and many others' ire after she and guests...

Hello fellow 2013 survivors, I've got a lot of irons in the fire, but this one struck me with a sense of urgency and so I banged it out - (don't read anything into that expression). I'd heard about this latest flap over a gaggle of progressives having a chuckle about Mitt Romney with a black grandson on his knee and I couldn't help but see a bit of absurdity beyond the rather innocuous incident itself. MSNBC has, without thinking (surprise, surprise)-locked themselves into a box and now that it's too late to get out, are discovering they don't...

I’m afraid everyone missed the point surrounding the Ms.NBC-Melissa Harris-Perry controversy over this absolutely charming picture of the Romney family patriarch and matriarch taken with their 21 grandchildren. The criticism has centered around the show’s host and guests mocking of little Kieran Romney, the adopted black grandson of Mitt Romney. Butt it’s worse than that. Look closely at this picture: Kieran is the little black baby on Mitt’s lap in…pink. As Ms.NBC’s Managing Editor of Outrage pointed out, all the other little grandsons are wearing…blue, while all the granddaughters are wearing…pink. “One of these things is not like the others”...

To the progressive liberal, all politics is personal, which means several things. First is that any time and situation is a good place to push their ideological agenda. It can be at Thanksgiving, over Christmas dinner, or just sitting back and watching tv. "Wow, that receiver really got popped going across the middle to catch that pass. Thank Gaia that he now has ObamaCare in case he needs it." The other facet to the politics is personal is the act of destroying one's opponents on a personal level, not one based upon debating the merits of opposing viewpoints. While publicly...

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry apologized Tuesday for openly mocking Mitt Romney's black adopted grandson, after Sarah Palin led the chorus of conservatives who criticized the cable news host. The Romney family Christmas card was among the items featured in the "2013: The year in political ridiculousness" segment on the cable news show Sunday.

In a nauseating display of mean-spirited ignorance, MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry and her panel of five ridiculed Mitt Romney's black grandchild as something "that's not like the others." The MSNBC segment was a look back at 2013, and for some reason a Romney family photo that shows former Massachusetts governor with a grandchild on each knee was cherry-picked for mockery. The only apparent reason for the ridicule was purely based on the race of Kieran Romney, the governor's adopted grandchild who happens to be black. You can hear panelist Pia Glenn singing the lyrics to the "Sesame Street" song, "One of...

Host of eponymous “Melissa Harris-Perry Show” is under fire for making the race of Romney’s adopted grandson a punchline. MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry concluded the “What’s So Funny About 2013?” segment of her Sunday show with a chorus of laughter at the black grandson pictured in former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s family Christmas photo. The chuckles were directed at baby Kieran – who was adopted by Romney’s son Ben and his wife Andelynne in September. MSNBC anchor Melissa Harris-Perry used the opening of her Saturday morning program to issue a personal apology for the mockery of Mitt Romney's adopted black grandson, Kieran. The appalling segment occurred last Sunday and Harris-Perry had already apologized via Twitter Tuesday. Today she claimed that she "intended to say positive and celebratory things" about the Romney family's inter-racial adoption. Whatever the intent was, the reality is that the segment proceeded in a way that was offensive. And showing the photo in that context, that segment, was poor judgment. So without reservation or qualification, I apologize to the Romney family. Adults...

On MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry show Saturday, a few minutes after the host's emotional apology for a racially-charged segment on last week's show, panelist Katrina Vanden Heuvel renews the charge that Republicans are racists. [video goes here] The panelists are discussing populist sentiment in America as part of a discussion about the election of Bill de Blasio in NYC. The discussion spans a commercial break, and in the second half, Katrina Vanden Heuvel is addressing the idea that Republican populism has been successful in stirring up emotion and movement based on a message of lower taxes and limited government. Vanden Heuvel...

On MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry this morning, the host apologized for remarks she made on her show last weekend, a story first broken here at The Right Scoop. She apologized "without reservation or qualification" to the Romney family, and very emotionally to interracial families everywhere: ... So the only group due an apology yet to hear one, and who will almost certainly never hear one, are Republicans across the nation, who are caricatured and characterized as obviously racist every single day, based solely on their party affiliation. Unfortunately, as we'll show later today in a follow-up post, the racist assumption about...

December 31, 20135 dumbest Melissa Harris-Perry quotes of 2013 [VIDEO] Jamie Weinstein On a network filled with dimwits and nitwits, Melissa Harris-Perry stands out. She may not be the dumbest host on MSNBC — when you’re competing against Ed Schultz, that’s a tall task — but she has convincingly demonstrated that she is among the most consistently asinine. Below are five of the Duke PhD’s stupidest statements of 2013: 1.) She downplayed the role radical Islam played in the Boston Bombings: “I keep wondering — is it possible that there would ever be a discussion like, ‘Oh, this is because...

An MSNBC host is apologizing to Mitt Romney's family after she and guests on her show joked about a Christmas picture that showed the 2012 Republican presidential candidate's adopted, African-American grandson. Melissa Harris-Perry said Tuesday her intention was to celebrate diversity, but the segment took an unexpected and offensive turn. The photo shows infant Kieran Romney with his grandparents and their 21 other grandchildren, all of them white. One guest on her Sunday show, actress Pia Glenn, sang 'one of these things just isn't the same.' Comedian Dean Obeidallah, said it 'sums up the diversity of the Republican party.' Harris-Perry...

Melissa Harris Perry, IMO, would rather have Mitt Romney's adopted grandson, either aborted or raised in the liberal democrat crack plantation. Uh, uh, there's no way in Melissa Harris Perry's world that a baby can be adopted into a loving family.

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry offered an apology to the Romney family on Tuesday after a panel on her show mocked the fact that one of Mitt Romney's grandchildren is black. On Sunday's "Melissa Harris-Perry" show, Harris-Perry led a panel in discussing the "Photos of the Year," which included a Romney family Christmas photo. In the photo, Romney is seen holding his adopted grandchild, Kieran, who is black. During the segment, guest panelist Pia Glenn sang, "One of these things is not like the others! One of these things just isn't the same," a reference to Kieran. "And that little baby,...
